Chapter 139: In The Name Of Greed

Chapter 139: In The Name Of Greed

"Unforgivable..." Dora whispered.

"What is this?! Are you all stupid?!" yelled the dean. "How can you think like that, how can you be so stupid at such times?!"

She placed herself between Dora and Thomas, facing the young man with glasses or perhaps protecting him from a greater danger.

"I trained you all, I knew you had these resentments, but to think it could be this bad... Are you saying you’d let her die for your stupid ego?!"

Thomas closed his eyes and watched the battle as Iris dodged a spiral of fire emanating from the monster’s tail.

"This is how those who do not have power fight. You will never be able to understand our world.

"You id-"

"Candace." Dora’s voice, a true death call according to everyone’s instinct, imposed silence.

Candace slowly turned towards him, her gaze filled with fear.

Dora pointed his wrist under her nose.

"Take them out."

"... What?"

In front of her, Dora’s chains waved in the wind, the dean opened her eyes wide.

"You can’t be serious... Like Hell, I’m going to do that!"

"Candace!"

She flinched, Dora’s voice heavier than before, a sign that he carried immense rage. Thomas frowned and didn’t take long to understand something.

"What... Are you going to be yourself now? Are you going to attack us?"

The students began to tremble in fear and prepared for a battle they knew they would lose.

"Are you kidding me?"

Dora’s voice got them started, his gaze shifted from the battle to them.

"I will never waste an ounce of energy on parasites like you."

Their frightened expressions turned to confusion and a little shock.

"You’re all already dead, why should I give you the honor of killing you myself? You’re not even worth giving a lecture."

Thomas gritted his teeth.

"Don’t you dare insult us, you among others who have no right to..."

"Thomas." Candace grabbed his arm.

He looked at the dean defiantly, but seeing her deathly gaze suddenly erased most of his confidence.

Candace let go of him and looked Dora straight in the eyes.

"I understand what you want, but you have to understand that I can’t do it, we don’t know who you really are."

"Candace."

"Calling my name over and over won’t do anything, I won’t free you, Greed!"

A shockwave passed through the field, bringing most of the students to their knees. Iris was now the only one fighting the beast who continued to regenerate.

Dora and Candace were facing each other when something phenomenal happened. Under the stunned gaze of the dean, the chains shook, following Dora’s hand, but his face showed no anger.

"D-Dora..."

"Dean... It’s exactly the same... the same thing as her..."

The dean’s eyes widened, her body freezing. Dora looked at her hands shaking with a desperate facial expression.

Beta

"She too... had been isolated because she was strong... she couldn’t have normal friends, because no one could see her as a normal person... she was seen as a monster... . look at them, look at them all, wishing him dead... just to feel better about their life which will not change..."

The students, on the ground or standing, had the same silent reaction, worried, biting their lips. Thomas glanced behind him, and the sight of their doubtful gaze shattered his confidence once again.

Candace looked Dora straight in the eyes but with a gauze filled with surprise.

Dora, keeping the chains at her shoulders, lowered her head.

"I remember everything she said before she died... I remember her regrets... she wanted me to become something for Iris that she couldn’t have, and now Iris is on the same path... Please don’t let her die again... Let me save her this time..."

With a sad expression, his hand was still, caressed steadily by the heat waves, and then another heat covered it.

Candace, without a word, a tear falling from her left eye, grabbed his hand and, using a copy of the key, opened it, freeing the caged beast.

She then stood up, looking at the chains, a symbol of her weak spirit, in her hands. She felt no desire to speak, no strength within her when a single sentence brought her back to life.

"Thank you."

She raised her head, seeing the back of the young boy in front of her.

"No one else will die, no one else will lose their right to be human, no one else will choose death, I will turn this world into something to profit from, in the name of greed."

Alpha

He made a powerful jump, spreading dust behind him, and appeared high above the monster.

Iris flinched and looked above, her eyes glowed when she saw the bright star in the finger sword pose.

"Dora..." his smile widened.

This scene barely lasted a second, but right before Iris disappeared into a dimensional hole created by Dora, everyone, especially Thomas, could see the eyes and smile of the girl they hated.

She wasn’t expressing anger, she wasn’t pretending to smile, she was just happy and even more than that.

She reappeared next to Dora and instinctively hugged his waist so as not to fall.

"Dora... Oh... Wait, how are you here?! Aren’t you supposed to..."

"Silly."

"Eh?"

"Did you think you could shake a meat in front of me without expecting me to take a bite?"

Her eyes widened, reflecting the young man’s face as he smiled at her.

"You lost everything to stay with me? So don’t you dare have fun without me."

As she gazed at him, the world around them seemed to come to a standstill. At that moment, nothing else existed except for her and the man she was holding onto, whose waist she had grasped tightly.

The higher she looked, the brighter everything seemed to become, and from her viewpoint, Dora appeared to be glowing like a saint.

She couldn’t help but smile like a child, her eyes filling with tears, and she nodded in agreement.

Dora returned her nod and focused his attention on the monster that lay beneath them, his left hand in a sword-finger position.

"I’ll show you how to fight a regenerating monster, behold, the power of a Sin Avatar!"

Antimatter and Permanent Degradation.

Black and red energy erupted from his index and middle fingers, then shot above them and exploded, forming a black and red sphere.

"RUINATION"

The sphere extended into a black arrow, rushing towards the beast, pierced between the eyes, and changed direction to pierce it on several sides.

Amidst the growls and sounds, the creature underwent a transformation, as the flames turned from red to purple and a mist spread around.

The monster screamed, but its cries weakened over time as it seemed to be consumed by its own flames. The howl gradually died down, leaving behind a giant flame that burned brighter than ever.

And then, in a moment of stupor, the body vanished, as if it had never existed, leaving behind only a purple flame on the ground, attesting to the existence of the monster that once roamed the earth.

Everyone watched in amazement at this feat, no words, no sounds, only their gazes to see. Two looks in particular, that of Iris, who never looked at anything other than Dora and missed her attack, and Candace, standing in front of the others, her gaze fixed on the boy, no more emotion, she was not in shock, nor cry, just watch.

Dora and Iris landed in front of her, side by side. He then gave the dean a teasing smile and showed his wrist like a prisoner.

"Now, as promised."

Candace looked at his wrist and looked up at his face. Her eyes finally moved and her smile appeared.

"... Give me a break... I’m too old for so many emotions..."

"Deal with it, we’re going to be together for a very long time."
