The elevator doors opened, and Morphis stepped out into a quiet hallway.

He followed it to the very end, where a large door stood with the words “Tech Department” inscribed upon it.

Taking a deep breath, Mo Fei pushed open the door and walked in.

As soon as he entered, he suspected he had come to the wrong place.

There were no densely packed computers or the busy technicians he had imagined, nor were there any of the futuristic black tech devices he had fantasized about.

Instead, the room was filled with a dazzling array of gaming memorabilia.

Various swords and weapons hung on the walls, and complete sets of armor were displayed on mannequins, looking like an array of imposing armored warriors.

The walls were entirely made up of bookshelves crammed with books boasting archaic covers.

Mo Fei strongly suspected that most of these books were just for show, perhaps only sporting a veneer of texture since many of the covers seemed too exaggerated to be real, the type of lavish binding that likely wouldn’t exist in reality.

The hall also contained many sealed display cases, inside of which lay famous divine artifacts, magic items, rings, and necklaces from games, all replicates of exquisite craftsmanship.

Mo Fei even spotted an Orc skull emanating a green glow, which he guessed might well be the legendary skull of Gul’dan.

The life-sized game models were particularly eye-catching: Orcs, Dwarfs, Elves, and even a black dragon whelp.

They were all encased in glass containers, frozen in lifelike poses that captured a moment in time.

Mo Fei’s gaze lingered for a moment on the graceful curves of the Elf model’s buttocks before being drawn to the center of the hall by a cool-looking sword that radiated a chilling aura—the infamous Sword of the Loving Son, Frostmourne.

The magical runes on the blade seemed to be painted with some kind of luminescent paint, shimmering with a faint blue light, very impressive.

The sword was planted into a massive ice block model, likely with added dry ice, emitting a chilling white mist, and frost could even be seen forming on the blade.

Tut tut tut, this is way cooler than the one Blizzard released back in the day.

I heard that when Skyspan Corporation acquired Blizzard, they cleared out the stock of game models from Blizzard’s headquarters and shipped them all back to China.

It seems that might be true; some of these collectibles could be from those exhibitions.

But these gaming peripherals should be displayed in the outside lobby to decorate the facade, right?

What’s the deal with hiding them in here?

He approached Frostmourne and couldn’t help wanting to grasp the sword hilt to ‘pinch’ the scene where Arthas drew the sword.

But his action was interrupted by a voice.

“Hey, don’t touch that thing; didn’t you see the sign?”

Mo Fei jumped in surprise and looked up to see a young man with glasses looking at him displeasedly.

Mo Fei followed the direction the man was pointing, and indeed, there was a sign.

[Do not attempt to pull out Frostmourne—Dry Ice Burn Warning]

Mo Fei inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.

He was resistant to fire, but not necessarily to cold.

“Ah, thanks for the warning.

I’m Mo Fei.

I have an appointment with Wang Xuan.”

“Follow me,” the man said, beckoning with a gesture.

Mo Fei hurriedly followed him.

Passing through the display hall, they entered another room that still didn’t look like what one would expect from a ‘Tech Department.’ Instead, it resembled a massive gaming and entertainment room filled with all sorts of recreational facilities and amenities, including beverage dispensers, snack machines, popcorn machines, shaved ice machines, and even a mini cinema system…

Mo Fei thought this place was simply a paradise for homebodies and a playground for mischievous kids.

A tall man was engrossed in playing a retro arcade game in a corner, the joystick clicking loudly—Hou Yougen!

Familiar sound effects came from the game machine’s speakers.

Wang Xuan stood in the ‘dining area,’ wearing an apron and making American pancakes on a flat grill, with sausages turning in the toaster next to him.

His technique was quite skilled; he looked like someone who cooked often.

The savory aroma of pancakes and sausages wafted over, making Mo Fei’s mouth water in secret.

“Ah, Mo Fei, you’re here.

Just in time for breakfast.

Want some?”

“Err, no, thanks.”

“Ha, have some; you’ll like it,” Wang Xuan said as he layered a thick stack of pancakes onto a large plate, poured a generous amount of maple syrup on top, arranged the sausages on another plate, and then placed them on the dining table before grabbing a few more plates.

Before Mo Fei could refuse, Wang Xuan had already handed him a plate with a few pancakes on it.

“Try my cooking; I guarantee your satisfaction.

Let me tell you, this is definitely the tastiest cream pancake you’ll ever have—Zhang Zhen, Su Wenrui, time to eat.”

The man playing the arcade game cheered and ran over eagerly.

And the man who had led Mo Fei in joined the three as they all started eating their pancakes.

Mo Fei glanced at the plate of pancakes in front of him and couldn’t resist.

He took a bite and found them fluffy, sweet, and delicious.

The combination of milk flavor and maple syrup was wonderful.

Wang Xuan was right, they were delicious.

After finishing one and still craving more, he cleared the plate and ate two more sausages, satisfying his hunger.

“So what’s got you so worried, Mo Fei?” Wang Xuan asked while sipping milk.

Only then did Mo Fei remember his pressing issue.

He had been quite nervous, but now, after such a breakfast, he had completely relaxed.

Wang Xuan seemed like a really good guy, and the warm atmosphere made him subconsciously treat him as a friend.

Especially now, with the amiable ambiance, he stopped hesitating.

“I’ve encountered some strange things, it’s a bit complicated, so I’ll show you directly.”

As he said this, he took out a thermometer—held it in his hand, but after a while, there was no response.

Huh, what’s going on?

He picked up the thermometer to look, and it was intact.

Wang Xuan, however, snatched away the thermometer with a puzzled face, “37.8 degrees, oh man, are you running a fever, Mo Fei?

Why aren’t you heading to the hospital?”

“37.8 degrees?” Mo Fei was astonished, “But it clearly went off the scale just before.”

“Off the scale?

Haha, Mo Fei, you must’ve been watching too many anime.

A human body temperature can’t reach ‘off the scale’ levels.

If it really did, your brain would probably get cooked dumb.”

Mo Fei didn’t buy it, “Then how do you explain this!”

He took out a lighter and directly set his hand on fire.

Two seconds later—”Ow!”

Mo Fei yelled in pain and quickly drew back his hand, staring at the blister that formed, completely astonished.

At this point, the three of them burst out laughing.

“I mean, Wang Xuan, who is this guy?

He seems a bit off in the head,” the tall one asked.

“Mo Fei, he’s the one who triggered the black dragon BUG before.”

“Oh, that’s him.”

The other two displayed a schadenfreude expression, accompanied by a hint of mockery.

Wang Xuan didn’t mock, but patted Mo Fei’s shoulder with a cheerful laugh, “I say, little brother Mo Fei, what the heck is going on with you?

Spill the beans, let’s see if I can help you out.”

Mo Fei scratched his head, thinking, How come my superpower just disappeared all of a sudden?

“I recently triggered a quest in the game, to be exact, an original storyline.”

Su Wenrui said in surprise, “What, you triggered an original storyline?

Awesome, that thing is super rare.

You might even start a major version update directly.

Where did you trigger the quest?”

“In the treasure vault of Dalaran, I snatched a strange statue.”

“Hmm?

Those old farts in Dalaran had such good stuff, I never would’ve guessed, they really do have a deep heritage.” The three of them all marveled, but it confused Mo Fei.

Mo Fei was bewildered, “Aren’t those storyline items and quest items in the game placed by you guys?

You should’ve known about this beforehand.”

Wang Xuan shook his head, “Of course not.

The operation of the game world’s lore and the plot changes are directly run by the System’s mainframe, driven collectively by all players and NPCs; it’s a complete, dynamic world.

Those storyline items are autonomously generated by the System’s logical processes, and they’re all unique incidences.

Who gets them or what kind of story they trigger, how could we possibly know that in advance?”

Mo Fei was somewhat amazed, “So the game official doesn’t have any control over the game?

Then how do you arrange the main storyline of the game?

Are you just letting it develop freely?”

Wang Xuan said with a wry smile, “There was a main storyline arranged, basically the plot of the WarCraft III trilogy, but due to the variable of players, the storyline simply can’t develop normally and all sorts of bugs have arisen.

Take, for example, the opening of the Dark Portal half a year ago.

We were really looking forward to it, thinking we could finally launch a big expansion like the Tide of Darkness, introducing the Horde, adding a new faction, and starting wars between the Alliance and Horde, with brains bashing out.

Then heroes would die one after another, and of course, we could make a fortune.

But who would have thought those damned Adventurers would block the Dark Portal and kill the invading Horde army, pushing them back.

Warchief Blackhand had barely stepped out of the Dark Portal before he was slain, and if Gul’dan hadn’t reacted quickly by blowing up the Dark Portal, I’m afraid the Adventurers would have started their expedition to Draenor ahead of time.

As a result, the major expansion, The Tide of Darkness, got delayed.

Tell me, isn’t that frustrating?”

Mo Fei listened, wide-eyed, never imagining such a backstory.

“Will the Dark Portal open again?”

“Of course…

but it’s not convenient to disclose that, so let’s not talk about it.

Let’s talk about your issue.

You did the quest and had a bad dream, a nightmare related to your game experience”, Mo Fei recounted his in-game experience and the nightmare.

The three exchanged glances with each other, communicating silently through their looks.

Wang Xuan laughed heartily, “It’s a normal phenomenon, as they say, ‘What you ponder by day, you will dream of at night.’ It’s because the game is made so realistic that this happens.

Think about it – when you used to get obsessed with ordinary games, you would dream about them too, and now you’re playing such a realistic game, you’re bound to blur reality and gaming.

If you ask me, you should only play in moderation.

Spend some time going out, getting some fresh air, and just relax.”

What he said was undeniably true, akin to the universally acknowledged fact that smoking is bad for health – a solid truth that sounds good but effectively useless.

Mo Fei, looking at Wang Xuan’s half-smiling expression, couldn’t shake the feeling that the other party was pulling a fast one on him.

“So that quest won’t pose any danger to me, right?” he asked.

Wang Xuan burst out laughing, “Ha, what are you talking about?

It’s just a game, what danger could it possibly bring?

At most, it might affect your mental state, which is why I’m suggesting you relax more.”

Mo Fei still couldn’t fully set his mind at ease, “So there won’t be an occurrence of something like Morphis again, will there?”

“There shouldn’t be.

Even if it does happen, don’t worry, we’ll certainly deal with it.
