Chapter 59 - 59 59 Kingdom's Quest 'Hunt the Black Dragon

59: Chapter 59 Kingdom’s Quest ‘Hunt the Black Dragon 59: Chapter 59 Kingdom’s Quest ‘Hunt the Black Dragon Father King!

The princes stood up to pay their respects together, making quite a startling noise.

“Hmm, everyone please sit down, we’re all family here, no need for such formality.” The King waved his hand, and everyone took their seats again, then they all looked eagerly at the King.

King Aidan of Perinod (of the Kingdom of Altland): “Nowadays, our kingdom is plagued with numerous affairs.

Monsters roam our lands, and thieves are rampant, along with many miscellaneous issues that need to be dealt with.

You are all princes of Altland, my sons, and you must help me shoulder these concerns, Minister!”

“Yes, Your Majesty!” A court minister beside him hung up a large parchment scroll on the wall that listed all sorts of incidents across the kingdom that needed attention in the last week.

Every week, the King would publish these incidents as kingdom tasks, and those who completed them could obtain various rewards, and if lucky, even earn some plot points.

Although they weren’t many, they were stable and usually the tasks were not too dangerous.

In theory, these tasks could be accepted by any hero player, but since they were kingdom tasks, naturally the princes had priority.

Once the tasks were outlined, the princes could choose first before the remainder was posted for brave adventurers to undertake.

Moreover, each of these tasks could only be accepted once a week, and one must wait until the next week after completion, so careful selection was imperative.

Mo Fei immediately started to look at them closely.

Task 1: Hunt Storm Giants.

The Storm Giants on Horras Peak have long been a formidable enemy of the Kingdom of Altland.

Attack these Storm Giants and slay at least three of them, then report back to the King.

Task 2: Escort Caravan.

A caravan headed to the Kingdom of Lordaeron is about to depart.

Considering the threats along the way, the caravan leader hopes the King will send brave warriors to escort them to the Kingdom of Lordaeron.

Task 3: Clean out bandits.

A large number of thieves have recently gathered within Altland, and they must be dealt with.

The Marshal of Altland hopes someone brave will lead troops to clear them out, destroying at least three thieves’ strongholds.

Task 4: Capture wanted criminals.

A vicious fugitive has committed murder and fled into the mountains of Brokenridge, and must be brought to justice…

Task 5: Train soldiers.

The army of Altland is currently lacking in troops, and the Marshal of Altland hopes someone will train ten Altland recruits into Altland Sword and Shield Soldiers.

Task 6: Rescue the kidnapped girl.

A girl has been kidnapped by a Yeti in the mountains, and she must be rescued quickly, or else she might risk becoming a morsel.

Task 7: Investigate cultists…

There were more than twenty such tasks, and before Mo Fei had a chance to take a good look, the princes were already jostling forward.

“Father King, I wish to help you train the new recruits.”

“Very well, then this task is yours.”

“Father King, I wish to escort the caravan.”

“Hmm, alright, go ahead.”

“Father King, I wish to capture the wanted criminal…”

“Fine, fine, fine.” The King wasted no words, clearing one task from the list every time someone signed up.

The princes were eager to volunteer, nearly coming to blows over the better tasks, much like day laborers in a job market scrambling for work.

In the blink of an eye, Mo Fei found that most of the tasks on the board had been taken, leaving only a few obviously unpopular ones still posted.

Task 1: Hunt Storm Giants.

The Storm Giants on Horras Peak have long been a formidable enemy of the Kingdom of Altland.

Attack these Storm Giants, and slay at least three of them, then report back to the King.

Task 2: Exile the Ice Elemental Lord.

An Ice Elemental Lord from the Elemental Plane is ravaging the Frostwhisper Spire region; banish it back to the Elemental Plane to prevent it from summoning more elementals.

Task 3: Hunt a black dragon.

A wandering black dragon is wreaking havoc around Dragon Nest, and the local residents hope the King will dispatch brave warriors to drive it away or slay it.

Goodness, what kind of hellish tasks are these?

Mo Fei was speechless.

Storm Giants were at least level sixty or so, powerful monsters capable of going toe-to-toe with the Dragon Race, and they also lived in groups.

The Ice Elemental Lord needs no further mention; even the weakest would be a first-rank terrifying boss, and in this game, anything with ‘Lord’ in the name was usually accompanied by a bunch of minions, certainly tough to handle.

By comparison, the task of hunting a black dragon seemed somewhat doable.

Adult dragons typically had their own Dragon Nests, and dragon youths usually lived with adult dragons, so wandering black dragons were mostly adolescent dragons.

With the recruitment of some additional Adventurers, it could be more manageable.

The key was that Mo Fei was all too familiar with black dragons.

He knew their fighting methods like the back of his hand, and even if it came to fighting above his rank, he wouldn’t fear much.

But he was still only level one.

Slaying dragons seemed a bit excessive.

However, if he didn’t accept, he would have to wait until next week.

With a week’s time, why not aim to level up by ten or twenty levels before giving it a try.

With that thought, Mo Fei decisively chose Task 3.

“Father, I wish to ease your worries and slay that evil black dragon that plagues the land.”

As these words left his mouth, the other princes sent him gleeful looks.

King Aidan was also somewhat surprised, “Aidan, my child, do you really wish to do this?

That black dragon is incredibly ferocious.

Why don’t you think it over again?”

Aidan (Prince of Altland), “No need, what’s a mere black dragon to me?

I shall slay it and bring back its head to hang on Altland’s city gates for all to see how mighty we highlanders are!”

“Hahaha, good, truly my son!

Go then, I await your victorious return.

Today’s meeting is adjourned, my sons, for Altland!”

“For Altland!” everyone shouted in unison, then the next second, whoosh, they all ran out of the meeting room.

What the heck is going on?

Mo Fei was taken aback, but his reaction wasn’t slow this time.

With his prior experience in accepting tasks, he knew something was up for grabs again.

He immediately followed the crowd and rushed outside.

He saw more than thirty princes, like students dashing to the cafeteria at lunchtime, each one sprinting furiously, afraid of falling behind.

“What’s the situation, buddy?” Mo Fei asked while running, addressing a brother ahead of him.

“What situation?

The barracks have refreshed today, everyone’s racing for high-level soldiers!”

As he spoke, he dashed ahead with an Arrow Step.

High-level soldiers?

Mo Fei immediately understood what was going on.

Each city in every kingdom has its own garrison, and of course, princes on official business cannot act alone—they can commandeer soldiers from the garrison as their followers.

And soldiers too have ranks, from the lowest level militia, conscripts, to the main force of the regular army, and the top-tier various knights, even extraordinary troops.

Different ranks of soldiers have vastly different combat capabilities.

Generally speaking, the higher the soldier’s rank, the fewer in number, and if there were only one or two princes in a kingdom needing a guard, it wouldn’t be an issue.

But now, with more than thirty princes setting out on tasks, there might not be enough high-level soldiers to go around.

It’s first come, first served.

If not now, then when?

With this thought, he too began sprinting as if his life depended on it.

However, he quickly realized it was futile.

Among these thirty-something princes, he was the one with the lowest level, and naturally, the lowest agility.

Without any speed-boosting skills, how could he possibly outrun these lucky brothers?

Watching them pull further away, Mo Fei sighed and stopped running, eventually strolling along to the barracks.

The scene there was as bustling as a cafeteria during mealtime.

The princes had completely surrounded the garrison commander, each one shouting at the top of their lungs, demanding their share of followers.

Darksaide (Prince of Altland), “I want eight Northwind Knights, immediately, right now!

Any more Frost Ranger riders?

Okay, give me six.”

“Give me four highland warriors and eight Altland Ranger archers!” demanded Darksaide (Prince of Altland).

Grabroot (Prince of Altland), “What?

My command value isn’t enough to lead Northwind Knights?

Damn it, then switch them all to Altland Knights for me!”

Earl Adalian (Lord of Stronghold), “All of you, get out of the way!

You crazy princes, I was here first!

I have urgent military business!”

Demacia (Prince of Altland), “Get lost, I am a prince, and I don’t need to make way for anyone.

If you don’t like it, my brothers and I will take you on.”

Teacher Ma (Prince of Altland), “I’ll take ten Kingdom Crossbowmen!

And a few shield warriors, if not, Lightfoot Soldiers will do.”

Victor (Prince of Altland), “I also want Northwind Knights, the more the better—what, they’re gone again?

Damn it, what kind of lousy barracks is this?

Didn’t have any left for me last week either.”
