Chapter 63 Fear
Chapter 63: Chapter 63 Fear
Friday.
After school, An Yin hurried to the dormitory. After putting down her backpack, she sat at the desk waiting for Shi Qing.
Time passed very slowly, and she felt very anxious.
The dormitory door was pushed open, and Shi Qing appeared.
"Shi Qing." An Yin suddenly spoke, her voice slightly louder than usual.
Shi Qing looked up in surprise, her expression changed slightly, clearly, she was startled.
"You..." Shi Qing saw An Yin’s restless appearance and her expression full of anticipation. In the end, she didn’t say the discouraging words she wanted to and simply said calmly, "Have you really decided to go to the bar with me?"
This time, Shi Qing asked very seriously and cautiously.
Her expression seemed to say, "This is not something to joke about."
"I’ve decided." An Yin nodded.
Since she had decided to take a part-time job, An Yin wouldn’t allow herself to back down.
The money she owed Bao Shaojin had to be repaid. Although if she asked, Madam An would surely give her the money without hesitation, but given the family’s situation, Madam An just had surgery, and the follow-up treatment also required money.
As for the bookstore Madam An ran, it didn’t earn much, just enough to cover the family expenses and her school fees...
Growing up, although the family was not in want, it wasn’t exactly wealthy either!
Thinking of this, An Yin’s desire to work part-time grew even stronger!
"Alright!" Shi Qing saw her face as determined as a brave warrior and showed a slightly softened expression. If observed closely, one could vaguely see a slight smile at the corner of her mouth.
However, An Yin was caught up in her own worries and didn’t notice.
"Let’s have dinner at the school first, then take the bus." Shi Qing said, then walked toward the bathroom.
"Okay." An Yin suddenly remembered something and went to the bathroom door, asking from outside, "Is there anything else we need to bring?"
It was her first time doing a part-time job, and in a bar no less, so An Yin felt somewhat uneasy.
The sound of flushing came from the toilet.
An Yin embarrassingly retreated back to the desk.
"Don’t worry, just bring your brain."
Shi Qing’s voice came through the door.
If Shi Qing wasn’t usually a quiet and cold person, An Yin would have thought she was joking.
This showed that Shi Qing was serious about what she said.
Bringing her brain, as implied, meant that the bar was a complicated place, and working there as a waitress meant encountering many people, staying alert at all times, and being wary of others. Wasn’t it exactly about bringing her wits?
However, hearing this from Shi Qing’s mouth, An Yin felt somewhat unaccustomed.
Shi Qing came out of the bathroom to find An Yin looking at her eagerly.
With her bird-scared expression, Shi Qing thought that An Yin was not suitable for such a place. Maybe, after seeing the environment there, she would give up the idea of a part-time job?
"Let’s go." Shi Qing said helplessly.
An Yin followed her.
The two walked to the cafeteria together, meeting a few classmates along the way who stared at them in surprise.
In most people’s eyes, Shi Qing was used to being alone, and no one had ever seen her walking with others. Although everyone knew An Yin and Shi Qing lived in the same dormitory, no one ever thought they were friends.
Today, seeing the school topper and the campus queen together, how could anyone not be amazed?
Throughout the journey, An Yin was preoccupied with thinking about what to do in case of emergencies at the bar, so she didn’t even realize others were discussing them behind their backs.
In contrast, Shi Qing had always ignored others’ gazes, walking indifferently through the corridor to the cafeteria, quietly eating, and not chatting with An Yin, looking no different from usual.
During the meal, Shi Qing noticed that the dishes An Yin chose were all vegetarian, similar to hers.
Was she really short of money? Shi Qing frowned slightly.
Although Shi Qing didn’t know An Yin well, since they shared a dormitory from the start of university, from daily life, An Yin was thrifty but not in a bad state.
Now, what changed to make the situation seem so difficult? Could something have happened in her family? Thinking this, Shi Qing was startled, since when did she become so nosy?
The meal was not much for An Yin, eating it felt tasteless toward the end, but adhering to the principle of not wasting food, she finished everything on her plate.
Shi Qing also almost finished eating.
After leaving the campus gates, they waited for the bus at the bus stop.
Seeing her silent and head down, Shi Qing couldn’t bear to let her continue overthinking and comforted her, "This time we’re just going to take a look, you don’t necessarily have to work there, don’t act like you’re heading for punishment."
"Pfft..."
Before Shi Qing finished, An Yin burst out laughing.
At the same time, Shi Qing also couldn’t help but smile, although the frame of her black glasses hid the laugh lines at the corners of her eyes.
The bus arrived quickly.
After scanning their payments, they walked toward the back.
There were no seats, so both had to stand, holding onto the same grab handle.
That seemingly joking remark from Shi Qing cleared An Yin’s worries.
Since standing was dull, An Yin moved closer to Shi Qing and whispered, "How long have you been part-timing?"
Shi Qing stood upright, her eyes slightly closed, intending to take the opportunity to catch up on sleep because she still had work in the evening. She was used to such busy days and would seize any free time to rest.
Amidst her softly murmured voice, Shi Qing thought it was an auditory hallucination until she opened her eyes and saw An Yin staring at her. Then she said, "More than a year..."
Indeed, she started part-time work when she entered university, having worked at a milk tea shop, a coffee shop, a hot pot place... It wasn’t until she stumbled upon the bar’s recruitment information that she decided to give it a try.
At first, her state was quite similar to An Yin’s now, but after working in the bar for a long time and seeing plenty of glamorous scenes, she gradually became numb.
The upside was that the pay there was really good! Hence, it was the most enduring part-time job she had.
An Yin hesitated and asked, "Have you ever been... harassed while working?"
An Yin stammered after saying this, making it barely audible.
Of course, Shi Qing understood what she meant.
"I’ve encountered it." Shi Qing answered frankly, with no fluctuations in her expression, as if she was talking about someone else’s affairs, "And not just once."
"Ah..." An Yin’s mouth opened in shock.
"An Yin, working in such a place, getting hit on is inevitable, you must accept this reality." Shi Qing didn’t want to intrigue her further, speaking openly.
Most passengers had already disembarked, and they were standing farther back in a slightly deserted area with no others around, so Shi Qing spoke without hesitation.
"I, I understand." An Yin nodded blankly, her already fair cheeks turning even paler.
It was evident that An Yin was somewhat moved deep inside.
Seeing her timid and weak demeanor, Shi Qing looked away.
This was her choice, and she wasn’t being forced by anyone; everyone has to take responsibility for their decisions.
