Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Saving Lives
Backyard.
Wherever the eye could see, it was either exotic flowers or strange trees, most of which An Yin didn’t recognize.
But it didn’t affect her mood for admiration.
Just when her feet were sore and she didn’t want to walk anymore, Bao Shaojin, who was in front of her, stopped.
"Over there, go ahead and wash up."
The man suddenly spoke, startling An Yin, who looked up in panic, "Oh." An Yin weakly replied.
Seeing the man standing still, An Yin followed his gaze into the distance.
In the distant lawn, there were two cushions conspicuously placed against the green backdrop.
An Yin tentatively asked, "Should I go over first?"
Looking at the man’s steadfast posture, he surely wouldn’t be going with her. An Yin pondered.
"Go ahead." Bao Shaojin replied.
Receiving the affirmative answer, An Yin stepped forward, walking on the pebble stones in the lawn.
As she got closer, An Yin saw the cushions; the bloodstains on top had already dried.
In an instant, her cheeks flushed, and since there was no one around, An Yin sneaked a glance in the man’s direction, he was already nowhere to be seen, and she felt a lot less pressured.
An Yin started examining the surroundings.
Behind her was a shed, fully equipped with cleaning tools and some gardening trimming tools.
An Yin went into the shed, found a brush, and some cleaning solution. Just as she was about to start, she noticed a long hose on the ground, perfect for cleaning the cushions later.
Without thinking much, An Yin quickly got to work.
Although the scenery here was beautiful, An Yin didn’t want to stay longer than necessary.
With her small strength, even moving one cushion took a lot of effort, leaving her gasping for breath. She then squatted down, sprinkled some cleaning solution on the bloodstain, holding a brush, clumsily scrubbing back and forth...
Second-floor study room.
Through the glass, Bao Shaojin’s gaze landed on her fragile silhouette, her long hair swaying with her movements, forming an arc in the air.
"So tired..."
An Yin couldn’t help but mutter.
Looking at only two small bloodstains, she didn’t expect it to be so difficult to clean.
Sweat droplets had unknowingly appeared on her brow, and her hands were now covered with slippery bubbles. An Yin stared at the almost negligible flaws on the cushion, thinking a quick rinse might make them disappear completely. With that in mind, she hurriedly stood up.
Arriving at the shed, she picked up the long hose, intending to go out but remembered she needed to turn on the water valve.
She put down the brush in her hand, took the hose, and went to find the switch.
When she reached the corner of the shed, she followed the direction of the hose to find a valve, surrounded by various switches.
She dared not be careless, gripping the valve firmly, but with her hands bubbly and slippery, she finally managed to grab it, just as she was about to turn it open, her hand slipped...
"Ssshhh..."
"Ssshhh..."
"Ssshhh..."
In the distance, the sound of spraying water roamed continuously.
"Ah..." A scream pierced the skies.
Followed by a series of ear-piercing clangs.
"Bang..."
"Thud thud..."
Inside the shed, the sounds of various tools falling echoed.
And An Yin’s slender body clung tightly to the hose, but the force of the hose was too strong, and An Yin hadn’t let go at all. Quickly, her delicate body was flung around the shed with the long hose...
Simultaneously, the sprinklers on the lawn outside were all active, densely spraying water in every direction.
"What’s happening?"
Aunt Zhang, tidying up the dishes in the courtyard, saw the sprinklers next to the rockery pond overflowing and muttered with a frown.
In the study, Bao Shaojin sat in front of the desk, some documents waiting for his signature laid before him. Just as he was about to sign with his pen, the phone on the table rang.
"Buzz buzz..."
Seeing the name on the screen, Bao Shaojin’s brows furrowed.
Until the caller tirelessly persisted, Bao Shaojin finally picked up the call.
"Are you very idle?" Bao Shaojin’s voice was cold, his expression wasn’t any better.
"Not as idle as your gardener, watering plants at high noon?" Su Nan teased.
In the distance, Su Nan held a telescope in his hand, looking towards the house where Bao Shaojin was.
Such a familiar peeking wasn’t the first time for sure.
"What are you..." Bao Shaojin wanted to retort, but a light bulb went off in his head as if realizing something, he swiftly hung up the phone. In just a second, his figure disappeared from the study.
On the other end of the call, Su Nan cursed in frustration before finally calming down!
Getting ignored twice in one day, who could stand that?
Inside the shed.
A weak cry for help sounded, whimpering.
"Help, help..."
The hose was wildly spraying water, at this moment, An Yin held onto the hose tightly, having fallen to the ground, soaking wet, her hair in a tangled mess draped over her cheeks, looking utterly miserable.
When Bao Shaojin rushed over, this was the sight he saw.
He felt as if his breath caught.
Her frail little body stubbornly held onto the hose, covered in filth.
He quickly stepped forward and pressed the switch.
In an instant, the world quieted down.
The sound of sprinklers outside ceased, and the hose inside the shed calmed.
An Yin felt her entire body stinging, trying to move, but finding she couldn’t.
Not knowing if it was tears or water stains on her face, she looked like a little cat, her face, originally delicate, now dirty.
Upon realizing the hose wasn’t going to whip around, An Yin cautiously loosened her grip. Only when she saw that no water overflowed did she let out a sigh of relief, unable to help showing a relieved smile.
"Seems you took quite a fall!"
A deep voice resonated from above, An Yin turned her head slightly, her gaze met by gleaming black leather shoes, then long legs, and then the man’s nearly sinister face.
So scary!
His expression was terrifying!
Like he wanted to eat her alive!
Though her body hurt terribly, An Yin hadn’t cried, yet seeing the man’s chilling face now, An Yin instantly choked up, her nose blocked, and tears unrestrainedly started to fall!
"Sob sob..."
"Sob sob..."
"Hic..." Crying too hard, An Yin untimely let out a hiccup. She wanted to wipe away the tears, but as she reached out, a sharp pain shot through her arm.
"It hurts..." An Yin exclaimed.
Since entering, Bao Shaojin’s gaze hadn’t left her.
Despite being hurt, she didn’t let go of the hose, such foolishness, she deserved it, deserved the pain!
Until she cried out, whimpered about the pain, Bao Shaojin could clearly feel his cold, hard heart likewise felt... uncomfortable!
He couldn’t bear seeing her hurt!
Especially right under his nose!
Bao Shaojin told himself that since he was the one who brought her here, he must ensure she leaves unscathed, not to mention she was the girlfriend of his cousin; he couldn’t possibly turn a blind eye to her.
The next second, he stepped heavily, bent down, and scooped her up by the waist!
