Chapter 173: Baby
Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Baby
"Find a place to sit, I’ll go to the restroom." An Ying ignored her daughter’s sulking.
"Got it." An Yin glanced around and spotted a nearby milk tea shop, "I’ll wait for you there." She pointed to a spot not far away.
"Alright." An Ying nodded, then turned and walked away.
An Yin walked over the clean tiles carrying her things.
This shopping mall was newly built, with many new buildings constructed nearby. Many neighbors from the old building where An Yin and her family lived had bought apartments here.
With the shopping mall opening, this area had become quite bustling, while the old building where An Yin and her family lived grew increasingly desolate. Although only a road separated them, it felt like a stark contrast between prosperity and decline.
This was the first time An Yin visited this mall, and she couldn’t help but take a look around.
The mall had seven floors, and she was currently on the third.
She walked very slowly, her eyes drifting uncertainly, as she made her way to the milk tea shop.
A few people approached her, but An Yin didn’t notice. Her gaze was fixed on the advertisement board at the milk tea shop entrance. She stopped and looked at the pictures of the teas on the sign, contemplating which flavor to buy.
Not far from An Yin, a few people were originally patrolling the store. Madam Su, walking in front, was sharply observing the situation inside the mall, while the manager behind her was reporting on recent financials.
Suddenly, Madam Su, who was at the forefront, seemed to see someone terrifying. Her steps faltered, nearly causing her to fall. Luckily, the quick-witted manager reached out to grasp her wrist, preventing her from falling.
"Madam Su, are you alright?" The manager asked nervously, breaking into a cold sweat, and the attendants following behind were also visibly on edge.
"No, nothing’s wrong." Madam Su’s face was pale as she quickly turned sideways, as if avoiding someone. Glaring at the group around her, she frowned deeply, "Everyone, please step back."
The manager hesitated for a moment before agreeing, leading the group away.
Madam Su took out a pair of sunglasses from her handbag, put them on, tidied her appearance, and found a secluded spot where she could watch the little girl from a distance before sitting down slowly.
She was in the mall’s corridor, on chairs meant for consumers to rest, right next to a large decoration that perfectly concealed her.
Unbeknownst to her, her hands were slightly trembling. She stared intently at the milk tea shop in the distance.
The little girl sat at a window seat, sipping happily from a cup of milk tea. There was another cup on the high table in front of her, and she seemed to be waiting for someone...
As Madam Su pondered, she saw a graceful woman walking towards the milk tea shop. At just a glimpse of her back, Madam Su felt her blood run in reverse, struck as if by lightning, rooted to the spot.
With a trace of fear, she withdrew her gaze, not daring to look at the woman’s face. In the next moment, she shakily pulled out her phone from her bag. Perhaps too nervous, the phone slipped from her fingers to the ground. Supporting herself on the chair, she squatted to pick it up, quickly navigating to a long-unused contact. Just as she was about to touch the screen, she seemed jolted and gripped the phone tightly.
For a while, she gritted her teeth, her impeccably made-up face twisting gradually, muttering hatefully, "An Yin, after hiding for so many years, why appear now?"
While saying this, her teeth chattered audibly.
Madam Su clenched her fists, supporting her limp body, turning to look towards the milk tea shop in the distance.
In the milk tea shop, An Yin had already drunk more than half of her milk tea, smugly looking across, "Mine’s watermelon flavor, want to try it?"
"No need." An Ying shook her head helplessly, really not fond of such sweet drinks, though she didn’t mind a small taste occasionally.
An Yin saw An Mistress (Ms. An) was still staring at the milk tea and urged, "Finish the top layer first."
An Ying complied with her daughter’s suggestion, scooping a bit of cream into her mouth with a spoon.
"Tastes good, right?" An Yin was quite pleased with herself.
"Cold stuff, try to drink less of it in the future." An Ying didn’t answer her daughter’s question, instead starting to nag.
An Yin was left speechless, no longer speaking, sipping her tea happily with a bright smile on her face.
Seeing her daughter ignoring her, An Ying gently tapped her daughter’s forehead in mock disapproval and started trying the milk tea herself. Since it was bought, it shouldn’t be wasted.
Halfway through, An Ying felt inexplicably anxious, looking around but finding nothing unusual. She lightly patted her chest to calm down.
"Mom, what’s wrong?" Seeing An Ying patting her chest, An Yin also became nervous.
"Nothing," An Ying reassured her daughter, preventing her from overthinking. She hastily made up a reason, "Just choked."
An Yin, being straightforward, was easily fooled by such an absurd lie.
"Be careful then." An Yin relaxed, reminding her.
Elsewhere...
Madam Su had confirmed the woman she saw was indeed An Ying. And that little girl called "An Yin" was likely An Ying’s daughter, almost certainly so!
Madam Su fell into deep thought.
The memory of An Ying pregnant repeatedly flashed in her mind. Soon, her gaze burned as she stared at the little girl called "An Yin."
Could the baby An Ying was carrying back then be this little girl before her?
As that thought arose, Madam Su felt a chill spreading through her body.
No,
It’s impossible,
Definitely impossible...
Madam Su shook her head in agitation, spiraling into madness, oblivious to the pointing fingers from passersby.
Until the manager approached, looking at the woman sitting on the ground, he nervously stepped forward, "Madam Su, let me help you up!"
Madam Su seemed soulless, like a marionette, helped up by the manager to leave, completely lifeless, evidently extremely shocked.
At the milk tea shop,
Mother and daughter finished their milk teas, took a stroll around the supermarket, where An Ying bought her daughter’s favorite snacks and some household items, not returning home until noon.
Back home, An Ying was about to head to the kitchen, but her daughter pulled her to the sofa, "Take a rest first, you probably have tired legs after all that walking."
An Ying followed her daughter’s lead and sat down to rest. Her feet were indeed quite sore after so much walking.
"I’ll get you a drink." An Yin stood to pour water.
An Ying barely had time to stop her.
Soon, a cup of warm water was handed to her, and as An Ying accepted it and looked at her serene daughter, the inexplicable panic in her heart slowly dissipated.
"I’m going to school at three," An Yin said.
Thinking about the down jacket that An Mistress bought for her, An Yin felt increasingly urgent about earning money. She wanted to ease An Mistress’s burden on the household.
