Chapter 142 Talkative
Chapter 142: Chapter 142 Talkative
An Ying’s sleep quality wasn’t good, and she woke up in a half-dream, half-awake state. Moonlight gleamed through the window, and under the faint light, An Ying slowly got up.
When her hand touched the warm body, she looked up in a jolt. In the dim light, An Yin was sleeping soundly, her quilt already kicked off. Curled up like a ball, she must have been cold. An Ying quickly covered An Yin with the quilt again, muttering to herself, "Such a grown-up, yet still kicking off the quilt!"
There was a hint of reproach in An Ying’s words, but her eyes were filled with affection!
An Ying got up and went to the bathroom.
Back in her bedroom, she didn’t immediately lie back down. Moving softly, she walked towards the window, looking up at a crescent moon high in the sky. Skyscrapers rose from the ground around her, limiting her view to only a corner of the sky and the old building opposite.
Having lived in this place for decades, An Ying still hadn’t found a sense of belonging. It seemed as if only her physical body lived there. On her pale face, there was a hint of melancholy and seven parts sadness.
As her gaze unintentionally swept downstairs, a familiar figure appeared in her sight under the moonlight.
Doctor Huang!
An Ying widened her eyes, afraid she had seen wrong. She moved closer to the window; it was indeed him!
While she was still puzzled, she noticed the man, previously standing still, suddenly looked up in her direction. An Ying retreated two steps, shaken, until she was sure he couldn’t see her, she finally calmed her startled heart.
She realized her caution was unnecessary. Her window had burglar bars, and it offered great privacy. Even without switching on the lights indoors, Doctor Huang downstairs couldn’t see her even if she stood boldly by the window.
Thinking this, An Ying shuffled awkwardly to the window. When she looked downstairs again, Doctor Huang was no longer there!
A ridiculous thought crept into An Ying’s mind — did she just imagine it? That couldn’t be.
In the latter half of the night, An Ying fell asleep with questions in her mind.
Early the next morning.
When An Yin woke up, the room was still quite dim. She opened her sleepy eyes, stretched lazily, and rolled back and forth in the warm quilt like a young child, very childlike.
When An Ying entered the room and saw her daughter like this, she slightly smiled. "The sun is shining on your butt. Get up and have some porridge. I also bought some of Grandpa Zhang’s fried dough sticks."
Lying on the bed, An Yi sprang up at the mention of "fried dough sticks," "Thanks, Mom!"
She loved Grandpa Zhang’s fried dough sticks!
"Greedy little cat!" An Ying laughed softly, her eyes filled with joy.
An Yin put on her shoes and hummed to the bathroom. While brushing her teeth, she didn’t forget to check on An Ying’s injury, "Mom, how’s your foot today?"
"It’s fine now." An Ying approached her daughter, walking much better than yesterday.
An Yin said nothing, knowing An Ying always reported the good news but never the bad. For An Yin, some of her mother’s words were no longer credible!
"After breakfast, I’ll go with you to Doctor Huang’s." When An Yin said this, she stopped brushing her teeth, paying special attention to her mother’s expression.
An Ying couldn’t help but chuckle! Her daughter’s behavior was so obvious it left her both helpless and amused. "It’s still early. I usually go in the evening."
"Oh." Seeing her mother so calm, An Yin abandoned her curious thoughts. After brushing her teeth, she washed her face.
After getting up in the morning, An Ying took out the clothes from her daughter’s suitcase, washed them, and hung them on the rooftop to dry.
An Yin, bored, ate her breakfast while checking WeChat on her phone. Jiang Keke sent her a message to hang out.
An Yin drafted a reply and sent it.
An Yin: [I’m back home, let’s meet next time.]
Jiang Keke: [Okay.]
Seeing the message from her friend, An Yin put the phone back on the table, focusing on her food.
During this time, spending time with Jiang Keke, An Yin felt that Keke had changed somewhat significantly. Although she couldn’t pinpoint it exactly, An Yin felt like everything out of Keke’s mouth was "Ah Cheng, Ah Cheng..."
An Yin had never been in love and didn’t know what it was like to be in a relationship. However, the way Jiang Keke conducted her relationship seemed overly absorbed, at least to An Yin. She didn’t dare to tell Jiang Keke these thoughts, not having any relationship experience herself, she really couldn’t understand the way men and women interacted!
"After you finish eating, let’s go buy a down jacket," An Ying said, coming out of the bedroom with a light blue canvas bag with ethnic features. It looked somewhat classical, yet quite exquisite.
An Yin had seen the bag before. Every time she saw it, she couldn’t help being attracted. She mumbled, "Didn’t you transfer money last time for me to buy on my own? I’ve already bought it." She kept her head low, quietly eating the fried dough stick.
"Don’t I know if you bought it or not?" An Ying retorted, placing the canvas bag on the corner sofa to bring it when they left.
"..." An Yin was left speechless and changed the topic, "Why don’t you get a bag today when we go shopping?"
Mrs. An’s canvas bag had accompanied her for many years. Though it was beautiful, it needed to be fashionable with the times, to get a new one, thought An Yin.
"This one’s fine; I don’t need a new one." An Ying gazed at the very simple canvas bag on the sofa, speaking with a certain blankness.
An Yin didn’t insist, finishing eating the fried dough stick.
Because of An Ying’s foot injury, buying the down jacket never happened, despite An Yin’s various excuses.
An Ying could do nothing about her daughter.
Fearing her mother’s constant nagging, An Yin carried a small stool to the rooftop.
Outside, the sun was bright, and most households in the neighborhood had their laundry drying on the rooftop. An Yin found an empty spot. Just as she was about to sit on the stool, a cheerful voice called from the stairs.
It was Grandma Wu from last night.
"Yinyin is here enjoying the sun," Grandma Wu, despite her age, was quite sprightly. She was skillful at climbing the stairs and, after stepping over a high cement step, stood next to An Yin.
"Yes." An Yin quickly placed the stool beside Grandma Wu, "Please sit, Grandma Wu."
"Yinyin, you’re so polite," Grandma Wu praised the young girl without holding back, sitting down without reservation.
An Yin stood shyly.
The sun wasn’t too harsh at the moment, warming the body. Moreover, sheets were drying on both sides of the women, keeping a large part of their bodies in the shade; it didn’t feel hot!
"I shouldn’t have spoken about your mother." Grandma Wu mentioned last night’s incident, showing a bit of remorse.
"Please don’t say that, Grandma Wu. Even if you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have found out sooner or later," An Yin said earnestly.
