Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Stealing credits

Gasps erupted from the crowd once again upon hearing the ridiculous accusations and words that left his mouth. Almost everyone turned their attention to me now as they murmured among themselves, glancing over at me with judgement swirling in their eyes.

"How shameful! How could she be jumping on another so quickly?"

"Oh, I bet there is something between them all along. I didn’t expect this from someone who looks as prim and proper as she does."

A cold chuckle escaped from my lips this time. "Was it really insecurity and jealousy when I was right all along?" I challenged with a defiant glint in my eyes. "Aren’t the two of you playing house and living together?"

As soon as the words left the tip of my tongue, it was like a flip of a switch and people began to hurl insults and judgement at Blake instead.

He let out a loud scoff. "So what if I am living with her?" He snarled as his eyes grew wide with disdain. "I will have you know that my conscience is clear."

I forced the corners of my lips to curl upwards into a smile. "Is that so?" I questioned, my tone carrying a slight edge to it as I raised my brow at him.

"At least she supported me and did everything she could while I am pursuing my career and dreams. But you? You only lay around doing nothing!" He spat, each word that left his lips was dripping with venom. "Don’t pretend like you didn’t come and ruin my career for me," he sneered, his voice heavy with accusation as his eyes were narrowed into thin slits.

Tension continued to brew in the air between us as more people surrounded us with anticipation swimming in their eyes, almost as if they were watching some drama unfold right before them.

"I didn’t ruin anything for you," I said, my voice was cold and unwavering as I broke the silence. I maintained a distant look on my face. "You ruined it for yourself when you lost your temper and started physically assaulting me and accusing your own boss of adultery," I revealed, eliciting more gasps from the crowd.

The crowd broke into more murmurs once again. This time they didn’t bother hiding it or speaking softly. Instead, some older women were even pointing at him and scolding him like a mother would scold their son.

"How could you do that?!" One voice shouted, piercing through the air.

Another continued to yell. "She’s pregnant and you physically assaulted her? You ought to be ashamed of yourself."

Even a man would chime in with disgust written all over his face. "How could you call yourself a man? You are not fit to be one!"

His wide eyes scanned the area and I could practically see his blood boiling with anger, so much so that it could even pop a vein if he wasn’t careful.

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" He screamed, his voice shaking from the anger that was pulsing through his veins. "She deserves it."

He turned to glare at me now, his icy blue eyes burning with a fiery blaze and his jaws were clenched tightly. "Tell me, Aurelia..." he began. "What have you ever done for me, hmm? After you caused me to lose my job, Stella was the one who went back to beg the director to give me another chance. She was the one who fought for me! She was the one who picked up the mess you created!"

I couldn’t help but to let out a snicker. I was the one who pleaded with the director to give him another chance, albeit it was part of my revenge plan. But of course, good ol’ Stella had to steal the credit.

"What’s so funny?!" He snapped in frustration as he grew angrier by the second. "I’m going to be a successful director one day and I will be the one looking down on you then. I told you, you can’t even try to ruin anything or bring me down even if you wanted to," he hissed as a smirk morphed itself onto his lips.

I only let the corners of my lips curve upwards into a slight smile as my dark eyes twinkled with a knowing look. After all, it was all part of my plan.

I looked up to meet his intense gaze.

"Nothing, I’m happy for you."

It was at this moment when from the corner of my eyes I saw the guards walking over, heading towards our direction. I knew I had to seize this opportunity.

I immediately whipped my head around to face one of the guards, a concerned look was plastered across my face. "It’s him," I declared, pointing directly at Blake. "He’s the one causing a public nuisance and harassing me."

Blake’s eyes grew wide as he shook his head frantically. A flustered look was etched onto his face as he watched the guards march towards him.

"No, I didn’t do anything! I didn’t do anything wrong!" He shrieked. "You can’t throw me out!" He demanded, shoving against the guards’ tight hold on him to no avail.

I relished in satisfaction, watching everyone chimed in, chanting to throw that piece of trash out of the place as the guards dragged him despite his protests.

From a distance, we locked eyes and he glared at me with an intense look swirling in the depths of his eyes.

"Like I told you, you will regret this!"

"Why were you ignoring my calls and texts?"

The familiar voice accused and I found myself staring into my mother’s eyes as she stood outside the front gate to Xavier’s house.

A look of surprise crossed my face in an instant as a frown was etched onto my face.

"What are you doing here?"

She let out a loud scoff. "What am I doing here?" She repeated with an incredulous look that was now stretched across her face, as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. "Why don’t you think of what you have done recently?!" She sneered with a disdainful scorn.

A cold chuckle left my parted lips. "Why don’t you enlighten me mother? What exactly have I done that made you upset this time?" I questioned, the words that left my lips were dripping with sarcasm.

Silence enveloped us both momentarily as tension continued to hang in the air between us like a thick blanket.

She clicked her tongue. "I heard from Laura about what you did to Blake. Do you know how embarrassing this is that I have to hear her scolding and her lashing out at me, saying that I don’t know how to teach my own daughter?!"

I stepped forward as my gaze remained steady and a smirk tugged at the corners of my lips.

"Why? Did I do something wrong?" I asked, arching a brow at her as a slight smile graced my lips. "Because the last I knew was that Blake was the one who tried to assault me and choke me. Did they conveniently leave that part out?"

There was a brief pause as silence stretched between the two of us. For a split second, I saw a mixture of concern and surprise flashed past her eyes. But she quickly masked it with an expression of indifference and nonchalance.

"Well..." she finally said something. "I’m sure you did something to provoke him, didn’t you?"

I couldn’t help but let a cold chuckle emerge from my parted lips as I looked her in her eyes. I stepped forward, closing the gap between us. "So... are you trying to say that it’s my fault that he lost control and attacked me?"

She scoffed loudly once again, rolling her eyes in a dramatic manner, dismissing me as usual.

"Oh, don’t be so dramatic, Aurelia," she snarled as her eyes scanned my body. "You look perfectly fine to me."

"Right... yeah. Am I supposed to be thankful that he didn’t actually hurt me so badly that I ended up in the hospital? I don’t think you ever cared about me, all you care about is your own face and whether or not you got embarrassed," I spat the words out of my mouth, leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

Her eyes went wide with anger. "Don’t you dare put words in my mouth, I did not say that," she hissed as her eyes narrowed into thin slits and her jaws were clenched tightly.

"You didn’t need to. Your actions and words prove it all."

She let out a breath. "Whatever," she spat childishly. "Just don’t do anything like that ever again," she warned through gritted teeth, protecting my ex-husband like he was her own son and I’m just an outsider, a stranger to her.

She continued. "And don’t try to mess with his career and ruin his future for him. You two have been divorced already, there’s no need to do these petty tricks. Can’t you just let it go and get over it already? I don’t want to be hearing another word from Laura again."

Our gaze met and I replied her coldly. "Then, tell him not to bother me again."

As soon as the words left my lips, a voice pierced through the air and reached my ears.

"Tell who not to bother you again?"
