Chapter 49: Chapter 49: A visit

She confessed without hesitation, her voice carrying a hint of arrogance and a smugness to it as the smirk etched onto her face grew even wider this time.

"I knew it," I muttered under my breath as my eyes flickered over to look at her with disdain written all over my face. "I knew it!" I yelled this time, my voice came out much louder and harsher than I had expected this time.

"Not bad, huh... At least you figured it out much quicker than I thought. I thought you would have broken it off with him by now, but I guess I underestimated you. You are smarter than I thought." There was a brief pause as tension lingered in the air between us, hanging like a thick blanket. "I told you I would see you again," she commented snidely as a soft cackle emerged from her throat and a wave of satisfaction washed over her.

Impulse clouded my judgement as my eyes burned with a fiery blaze. Without a single warning, I reached up to grab onto the collar of her shirt to pull her close to me, staring her down with an intense look that stretched across my face.

"What is your problem, Evelyn?" I spat, each word that left my lips was dripping with a thick layer of venom. "Don’t test my limits," I warned through gritted teeth, my voice shaking with anger and my grip tightened.

Her eyes widened at the sudden movement and aggressiveness in my tone and shock flashed past her eyes for a second but she wasn’t intimidated by any means. The smirk etched onto her face didn’t falter. If anything, she looked amused by my outburst and anger, her eyes glinting with a dangerous mix of satisfaction and disdain.

"You’re mad, I could feel it," she murmured, her voice dropping to a low whisper as she taunted me. "I guess you almost fell for my trick and ruined your relationship with Xavier, didn’t you?" She asked, her voice laced with satisfaction as she never once blinked or tore her eyes away from my gaze.

I didn’t say anything as she pulled my hands away from her shirt and quickly patted it down neatly before looking up to meet my eyes once again.

I inhaled deeply as my heart raced inside my chest and my mind buzzed with thoughts. "Why are you doing this?" I asked, my voice carrying a sharp edge to it as my blood continued to boil with anger and rage.

A chuckle erupted from her throat.

"I thought you already knew why I was doing this?" She taunted with the same smirk on her face. "I told you... I’m going to make your life a living hell."

"I would like to see you try," I retorted sharply as my voice remained unwavering. "Oh but wait... you did and you failed. I didn’t fall for your stupid games and tricks," I sneered.

She laughed, letting the laughter slip through the gaps between her fingers.

"Oh... darling..." she drawled with amusement twinkling in her eyes, a smile playing on her lips as she placed her hand on my shoulder in a mocking manner. "That was just the beginning. There’s more to come," she warned, her taunting voice heavy with a threat and laced with anticipation and excitement. I pushed her hand off my shoulder as I glared at her.

She stepped towards me, somehow getting even closer than before.

"You may be wondering, why am I telling you all these, why am I admitting everything upfront," she mused, pondering out loud. I watched as the corners of her lips curled upwards into a slight smile of satisfaction as she continued. "That’s because you don’t deserve peace after what you have done. I want you to live in constant fear of what is going to happen next. I want you to doubt every good thing that comes your way. Soon enough, you will lose your mind, then you will realise the consequences of messing with someone like me."

I stood there, not budging or moving an inch as our faces remained close and we were now in close proximity.

I arched my brow at her. "Is that so?" I questioned with a cold expression that masked my features. "What exactly did I do, hmm?"

"What did you do?" She repeated with an incredulous look plastered across her face as she tossed my words right back at me. "Xavier belongs to me, he was mine in the first place. And you? You are nothing but the whore that came after me and snatched my boyfriend away from me. And don’t even get me started on your art? I can’t believe you won the competition... The judges must be blind after all," she snarled with a disdainful scorn.

A cold chuckle left my parted lips this time.

"I see..." my voice trailed off in amusement as I didn’t bother to defend myself because I knew it would all be useless. We locked eyes and I let a slight smile grace my lips. "Then you should be ready for what’s to come. I’m not scared of you. I’m going to make life hell for you, two can play this game."

A slight frown crept onto her face, resting between her thin brows. "You have nothing against me, Aurelia," she spat. "How are you going to make my life hell?"

"Are you sure about that?" I asked as a smirk morphed itself onto my lips within the next second. "Don’t be so sure. I could always find something, anything that you desperately try to hide from the rest," I warned.

Her features hardened as she clenched her jaw and her cheeks were now tinged red. Rage spread within her like a wildfire that was going out of control. "You –!"

The words barely left the tip of her tongue when I spun on my heels and turned around to walk off without saying another word.

I didn’t make it too far when her sharp voice pierced through the air, slicing through the thick tension and reaching my ears.

"Just so you know," she began. "I paid your parents-in-law a little visit..."
