Chapter 134: Chapter 134: The Arts Awards Ceremony is here!

He questioned, amusement dancing in his dark brown eyes before he finally moved back and straightened his posture.

"You know what? I don’t blame you for questioning me. After all, you didn’t know that I’m the president of the company that owns this mall. And that includes this little boutique shop you are working at. So thanks to you, you can also tell your boyfriend that he’s fired."

I watched with satisfaction as their eyes widened to the size of a saucer and they stared at him with their lips left agape. She stumbled a couple of steps back, shock and disbelief written all over her face, just like the rest of them.

"What?" She murmured under her breath, her voice barely above a whisper. "It can’t be..." She muttered in denial as she lowered her gaze and shook her head repeatedly.

She lifted her head this time, looking up to meet my eyes. "You are telling me that you and her are the president and vice president of the mall?"

"This is just one of the malls," he added as the smile etched onto his face widened.

A gasp left her parted lips and she was rendered speechless for a while before she retorted with a smug expression that masked her features. "No, I don’t believe you. I could also say I’m the president of this mall and I’m just working undercover at the boutique for fun," she laughed, still acting arrogant just because she knew she had the support of her boyfriend.

As if on cue, the sound of the jingle echoed in the place and a man walked into the store, dressed in a suit. He started walking towards us with a concerned expression on his face. "What’s going on?" He asked as his eyes darted around, as if he was searching for some form of clarity. "Is there something I can help with?"

I watched as Julia’s eyes lit up and recognition flashed past her eyes. Immediately realisation dawned upon me as it clicked inside my head. That must be her boyfriend, also the store manager. She quickly rushed over to his side and wrapped her arms around his arm, looking up at him with a small pout resting on her lips and a pitiful look on her face.

"Babe..." she whined as she tugged at his arm and she jutted out her finger to point at us. "They are bullying me, you have to kick them out of the store," she demanded, the words that left her lips dripping with accusation as a smirk morphed itself onto her lips.

The boyfriend snapped his head around to look at us. "Who? Who dares bully my girlfriend?!" But as soon as he laid eyes on Xavier and I, upon closer look his eyes grew wide with shock and horror when he finally recognised us. The colour from his face drained within a split second.

He immediately pushed Julia off of him like she was a stranger, causing her to gasp in shock. He then turned to give Xavier and I a slight bow. "Mr and Mrs Wilder!" The man exclaimed. "Good afternoon, it’s so nice to see you here. What are you doing here at our boutique shop today?" He greeted us with a polite smile on his face.

"I came here to get a dress for my wife. But your girlfriend over there...." his voice trailed off as his eyes flickered over to glare at her before he turned back to meet the man’s gaze. "She is the reason you are getting fired today. And so is she and everyone else working here today," he declared.

"What?" The man turned to look at Julia with a frown resting between his brows. "What did you do?!"

"I...I..." She stuttered, struggling to find the right words to say when I butted in.

I smiled. "Oh I will tell you. She shamed her colleague for being a stay-at -home-mum in the past and she accused me of sleeping my way up to my current position as the company’s vice president. And, she bragged that you are the store manager and you could fire anyone she doesn’t like. That sounds a lot like abuse of power to me. And that is something that we will not tolerate here at our company."

"You what?!" He shrieked as he glared at his girlfriend with a frustrated look plastered across his face. Soon, they broke into an argument and started bickering with one another.

I turned to look at Serena. "Come on, let’s get out of here. I still have a dress to shop for."

The day of the Arts Awards Ceremony came much sooner than I had expected.

I stepped into the ballroom clad in the new dress that I have bought from that day. I have settled on a long wine red dress that had to be worn off shoulder, exposing my collarbones and shoulders. The silky satin fabric hugged my waist perfectly and flowed down right to my ankles and my long dark hair was pulled back into a braided bun, with my fringe framing my face.

Beside me, Xavier was dressed in an all black suit as we walked in clinging arms.

Soft classical music played in the background, as if it was welcoming us. I let my eyes wander around as I admired the luxurious looking interior and the huge crystal chandeliers hanging right in the middle of the ballroom, glistening under the dim yellow lights that lit up the place.

Just as I was about to take another step forward to head over to my seat, I heard a familiar voice called out to me, reaching my ears.

"Aurelia!"

I whipped my head around in an instant, my eyes darting around the crowd, scanning for a familiar face when my eyes finally landed on the pair of green eyes. I was looking right at Evelyn who had a smirk plastered across her face as she sauntered over towards me.

"Good to see you here."
