Chapter 151: Three Days

With the haul of 892 Sovereign-rank fruits, John sped up the single tree from each S-rank batch of trees.

Since he had already reached 250 in all stats, reaching the peak of Gold-rank in physical parameters in one shot, he only needed to absorb enough Gold-rank soul cores by extracting Soul Ponds from Gold-rank monsters, and make his foundational Soul Power reach 1000, which was the peak of Gold-rank

And that’s what he went to do after getting the ten S-rank trees ready and harvested.

Each tree bore five to ten fruits.

Now, these fruits were different because eating one would give them a certain chance to get enlightenment, as the success rate was obviously not 100%.

So, saving the fruits for later, John went on an adventure.

There were thousands of islands, and one was bound to have some kind of disturbance from spirit energy, making it a tense spot with a lot of monsters. Unlike the transformation of islands into special dimension islands, spirit disturbance was often seen on the islands, making them good training and hunting spots for the Tamers of Nexus City.

After traveling for a bit, John landed on an island.

He traveled secretly with the invisible effect artifact, making sure no one saw him.

After finding and landing on this island, he took out Azelis, Jibril, and the rest of the Monster gang outside, including the Sovereign-rank Volfure Terrorcaster Dragon—Casty, and the eleven Emperor-rank Monsters formally belonging to Jason and Tavros, and one cross-bred Emperor-rank monster—Skyfold Litchwing Squallion, named Squila.

The Squallion was a unique monster with beautiful, magic-wooden thornlike horns and a body akin to a stag with four hoofed legs as well as four majestic bat-like wings, but grander, with crystal blue and red scales.

John planned to make Squila his next Sovereign-rank Monster, so he sent Squila with Casty as both girls went to hunt bigger monsters on the island with Azelis and other Emperor-rank Monsters.

Meanwhile, John and Jibril went hunting in areas filled with Gold-rank Monsters.

John fed a fruit of Strength, Speed, and Defense to Alfred, Pymon, and Rexion first. He had kept them from getting stronger, and let them train on combat and attribute mastery of their Gold-rank attribute so far, because their attributes evolved and combined after their evolution and rank into Gold-rank, but now it was time for them to get stronger in physical and soul stats.

John only gave them one fruit, and it was different from the ones he ate.

The ones he had had ten fruits into one to make him directly reach the peak of Gold-rank.

On the other hand, Alfred, Pymon, and Rexion only gained a 10% worth of increase.

But it was better that they increase their physical stats alongside soul stats just by ingesting the extracted soul cores. That way, they would also increase their Gene Potential, allowing John to trigger Gene Potential Burst and increase the pool of their skills.

That way, he would be able to select the optimal set of skills via one of the devices of Monster Mutation Evolab—Monster Modification.

"Let’s go. We aren’t stopping until I trigger your Gene Potential Burst twice. Hey, I am also talking about you five as well. You five triggered it once, but one more is left. After you do that, I’ll elevate you to King-rank."

"As for you four, do the usual—fight in fights, and scout more fights."

Alfred, Rexion, Pymon, Starry, Roby, Toby, Coby, Merc, Crocky, Sony, Cheron, and Ophis responded with howls, growls, roars, and whistles.

Everyone was raring to beat some real ass as it had been a while since they brutally fought in death battles against other Monsters.

...

And so, three days passed by in the blink of an eye.

Nexus City expanded in buildings and borders, and a giant new building also appeared at the city’s edge—the Alliance Center, where all eleven forces had joined hands.

A lot of people were in the city as over five thousand people had arrived from the higher-rank world.

Half of them were the Gold-rank staff for the alliance who were good at their job and the devices they used, while the other half were Tamers.

The leaders of the eleven forces changed overnight as new Sovereign-rank Tamers took the lead.

Watching everything from above while being in the Monster Paradise were John, Azelis, and Jibril.

They just returned from adventuring and training in the wilderness and were eating fruits to enter enlightenment, but after each of them failed three times and wasted three fruits, John created a screen to see the city using the one new application he became capable of using after getting 1000 soul power in his foundation.

Soul Eye.

He couldn’t send his outer eye outside of Monster Paradise’s point while he stayed inside, but that wasn’t the case with Soul Eye.

He could literally send this soul eye that acted as his five senses outside Monster Paradise, and let it travel around.

Since Soul Eye could be affected by the attributes that the user mastered, John’s Soul Eye with Space and Gravity was invisible to the senses of others.

Still, he didn’t want to get into any Sovereign-rank Tamer’s radar, so he stayed away while using his spatial prowess to observe things closely while staying afar, and reflected all of them in the screen he created.

Safe to say, the trio was shocked at the changes in the city.

"It looks like they sent quite a lot of reinforcement," John said as he blinked and looked around while controlling his Soul Eye. "I want to get close to that Alliance building, but if I try to peek inside, I think I’ll get discovered."

Azelis wryly smiled. "You will get discovered."

"If only you could use that invisible clock on your Soul Eye." Jibril chuckled.

"Unfortunately, that’s not possible. Well, we’ll just observe from here. But damn, how many Sovereign-rank we already counted?"

"We already counted forty Sovereign-rank Tamers outside," Azelis answered before she moved her eyes from the screen to the two fruits before her. "Well, let’s continue here, and then we’ll go out to make our official appearance."

From her single Shadow Ink tree that was nurtured, she got five Shadow Ink fruits of Sovereign-rank, which were supposed to have the highest chances of getting enlightenment compared to A-rank and below trees.

But she ate three with no results, and only two remained now.

John had gotten six Gravitalon fruits and five Voidspace fruits from a single tree of these two attributes. He had eaten three Gravitalon fruits, and nothing happened.

On the other hand, Jibril ate three Razewater fruits out of the seven she got, and nothing. But she still had four.

"Welp, let’s eat," John said as he picked up the fruit and ate it.

Azelis and Jibril followed shortly.

The trio closed their eyes, trying to let their mind drown in the energy that the fruits they ate produced.

Ten seconds later, a pair of eyes opened. John blinked first and then looked to his left at Jibril.

Jibril opened her eyes and weakly shook her head. However, her eyes moved past John and looked at Azelis.

Seeing surprise in her eyes, John turned his head to look at Azelis, and voila, it was happening.

Shadow Ink energy was oozing out of her body while she was completely still. Her soul entered through the gateway that the enlightenment opened, entering a dimension made of Shadow Ink attribute with atmospheric spirit power affecting and getting affected, creating spirit phenomena at random.

The aura that oozed and whirled around her was from the gateway of that dimension.

"It looks like she is in." John grinned. Looking at his remaining two fruits, he grabbed one and ate it. "We can do it, too."

Jibril nodded with determination and also ate one before closing her eyes.

A bit later, she opened her eyes with disappointment clear in them.

But she sensed some slight disturbance in spirit and looked at John.

Her eyes widened. ’He did it!’

Fortunately, they sat with two meters between them since one meter around John had volatile gravity with flickering waves.

Jibril took a deep breath and looked at the remaining two fruits.

’I had the most amount of chances...’

Biting her lips, she slapped her cheeks and ate a fruit.

Closing her eyes, she focused.

One sheep.

Two sheep.

Three sheep.

...

Thirty seconds passed before Jibril opened her eyes.

Her fist clenched as she looked at the last fruit, her eyes squeezing out tears of anger despite holding herself back.

’Why?!’

Looking up in the sky, Jibril sniffed and wiped her face.

’This is it.’

Looking at the last fruit, which wasn’t really last because she knew there were nine more trees of the Razewater attribute that would bear fruits in the near future, but she didn’t care.

What she cared about was herself and how worthless she felt she was.

’If I can’t get enlightenment with this fruit...’ Jibril’s fists clenched, her eyes showing a maddening gleam. ’It means I don’t have a future.’

’There’s no mom or dad anymore. John can take care of me, and he is powerful, but if I live, I’ll only trouble him in the future because of my weakness.’

’If I’m gone now, he will forget me sooner rather than later...’

’In the first place, he doesn’t really need me...’

"Why are you crying, Jibril?" Becky’s big eyes blinked as she looked at Jibril, surprised.

Since the trio sat near the garden where spiritual presence was high, Becky was there and came to check.

Seeing Jibril drooping tears while seemingly in thought, Becky was startled.

Jibril sighed and dryly smiled in response. "I just feel like shit because of failing, so I am crying."

"Oh...then just try again if you fail," Becky said with a big smile. "That’s what everyone does, right?"

For Monsters, that was indeed the truth and the universal law as they fight for their power and survival until they die.

Suicide was a concept foreign to them. They had no concept of doubting their self-worth, as to them, only themselves or their kin was a priority, and they would kill others if endangered rather than killing themselves, unless the situation involved sacrifice for survival.

"Yes, Becky...that’s what everyone does," Jibril said as she forced a smile and wiped her face.

’If I fail... I’ll try again. What I want matters, and I want to be with John, so I will try and try and try until I feel proud enough to stay by him.’

Looking at the last fruit with burning resolve, Jibril grabbed it and put it in her mouth.

"Good luck," Becky said while waving her big antennas and leaving.

Jibril closed her eyes.

And then, her eyes remained closed as navy blue particles of water—Razewater—began whirling around her, breaking down atmospheric spirit energy around her and bubbling it in.

The enlightenment lasted exactly for twenty hours for each of them, as they were forcefully snapped out once the 24-hour period passed.

And their progress of mastery depended on themselves.

Azelis opened her eyes first as an inky shadow began to take shape and form like a painting in the air under her control before she reigned it in lest it affect John and Jibril.

John’s eyes opened next, who also reigned down on his Gravitalon effect.

Looking at Azelis and then at Jibril, John grinned. "Succeeded."

Azelis chuckled. "Let’s check how we progressed. Frankly, I am shocked at my progress."
