Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 84: Letting Go to Be with Her

Chapter 84: Letting Go to Be with Her

It was the third day, and Emma Hart’s sleep quality remained poor, with her total sleep over the past three days not even reaching the amount a normal person would get in one day.

Damien Sterling, running his company, had made arrangements to bring his personal doctor to the premises.

"How was she when you saw her this morning? How is her condition?" Damien inquired.

The personal doctor’s expression was laden with concern. "The situation doesn’t look very optimistic."

"Is medication the only option? She’s pregnant," Damien pointed out.

With a tremble in his voice, the doctor replied, "Actually, Mr. Sterling, the primary cause of Miss Emma’s insomnia seems to be her depressive state. If her mood could be improved, it might resolve her sleep issues."

"Improve her mood?" Damien echoed.

The doctor nodded, feeling inexplicably intimidated each time he spoke with Damien Sterling.

With a wave of his hand, Damien dismissed the doctor from his office.

Grabbing his coat from the chair behind him, Damien prepared to leave.

His secretary, with a figure as graceful as a serpent, was about to bring a fragrant cup of coffee into the CEO’s office when she saw Damien heading out.

She hastily asked, "Mr. Sterling, where are you going? There’s a meeting soon."

Damien, without a word, continued toward his private elevator.

Down in the parking lot, his driver was on standby. Seeing Damien approach, the driver checked the time, puzzled by the deviation from Damien’s usual schedule of meetings at this hour.

Respectfully, the driver opened the car door, and Damien, seeming urgent, got in. "Where to, Mr. Sterling?" the driver asked.

"Back to the villa," Damien answered, turning his head to look out the window, leaving the driver to glance at him through the rearview mirror in disbelief.

Lately, the driver had noticed worry and fatigue on Damien’s face.

At the villa, Mrs. Harris was accompanying Emma Hart around the garden when the black Bugatti drove in. Both turned their attention toward the vehicle.

Indeed, it was Damien Sterling alighting from the car, a sight Mrs. Harris found surprising, as she had never seen him come home at this hour.

Walking toward Emma, who was holding a watering can, Damien asked with genuine interest, "You seem to be in good spirits today?"

He observed Emma closely. She appeared to be slightly better today, at least showing interest in engaging in activities.

Damien Sterling set down the watering can Emma Hart was holding and took her hand.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

"Let’s take a walk," Damien commanded in his usual authoritative tone.

Why was he so free lately? Didn’t he have company matters to attend to?

Watching movies at midnight, and now, early in the morning, he was back from the office wanting her to accompany him on a walk...

Emma, looking perplexed, was unexpectedly led by the hand by Damien and ushered into the car.

Eventually, the car stopped at the city’s largest leisure square, a popular spot for people to enjoy their free time.

Damien grabbed Emma’s hand but didn’t pull her out immediately.

Turning to her, he said, "Come on."

Emma, still uninterested in the outside world, shook Damien’s hand slightly.

"Don’t you have work? Don’t you need to go back to the office?" It almost sounded like she was urging him to leave, given her reluctance to spend time alone with Damien.

"This is my work," he replied.

Emma looked outside. What about this square, was he supposed to meet someone here for business on the plastic track or perhaps in the green belt?

"This square is a project invested in by our company. I’m here to check on its usage. Any problem with that?" Damien explained, though it sounded more like a justification than anything.

Resigned, Emma followed Damien out of the car. Alright, his explanation made sense. Inspecting the site was part of his job, but it seemed unusual for a CEO to take such a direct interest.

The square was bustling, not yet at its busiest.

Damien held Emma’s hand, appearing just like any other couple. "There’s an artificial lake we created over there. Let’s go check it out," he suggested.

Emma let Damien lead the way, indifferent to whether they saw it or not, knowing he wouldn’t consider her opinion anyway.

A few steps out, Emma suddenly felt something warm and moist touch her foot. Looking down, she discovered a small dog at her feet.

The dog’s fur shone brightly, and its round eyes stared up at Emma, its cute pink tongue affectionately licking her foot as if it were very fond of her.

Emma crouched down, gently stroking the dog’s fur.

The dog seemed to enjoy it, wagging its body continuously.

Whenever Emma stopped, the dog nudged her hand for more, clearly wanting the affection to continue.

"How fun," Emma couldn’t help but exclaim.

A child from a short distance away ran towards Emma Hart, squatting down upon seeing her playing with the small dog.

"Do you like my puppy?" the boy asked, gently petting the dog with a look of pure love and adoration in his eyes for the little canine.

The boy’s mother approached, smiling at Emma, "He has been begging me for a dog for the longest time, and I finally gave in and got him this one. We turned around for just a second, and the puppy was gone. We looked everywhere until we found him here. It’s funny, our dog usually only follows my son and rarely cuddles up to strangers."

"Really? This puppy is truly adorable."

All three of them were captivated by the puppy, its cuteness compelling them to look a little longer, even desiring to possess it.

"How much? I’ll buy it," came a cool voice unmistakably from Damien Sterling.

Their gazes shifted to Damien, his tall figure casting a shadow over the three of them.

Whether it was the shadow or something else, there seemed to be a chill in the air. His words carried an uncomfortable edge.

The boy’s mother shook her head, "I’m not selling the dog."

"I’ll give you fifty thousand for this dog. That amount should be enough to buy dozens of dogs of the same breed," Damien said with a sense of superiority, as if he believed the world could be his with the right price.

Emma Hart was already accustomed to this tone of his.

The mother was visibly tempted by the offer.

The boy, unaware of the adult world’s valuation of money, could only sense that Damien wanted his dog and that his mother was considering the offer.

What would happen to his dog if his mother agreed?

With a sense of indignation, the boy stood up, clutching at his mother’s clothes, "Don’t sell my dog!"
