Emma Hart led Matthew Taylor towards the break room downstairs. Damien Sterling watched them thoughtfully.

Inside the elevator, the atmosphere between Emma Hart and Matthew Taylor was incredibly awkward. Unable to hold back any longer, Emma finally asked, "Mr. Taylor, do you have any other important matters to attend to today?" She knew that the distance between City A and their location wasn’t short. Matthew Taylor wouldn’t come all this way just to choose a spokesperson. The message he sent earlier made her even more suspicious.

"I think it’s best if we keep our distance," Emma said, expressing her true feelings. She knew nothing could happen between them, considering her relationship with Damien Sterling, and she had no romantic feelings for Matthew Taylor.

The elevator soon reached their floor, and Matthew Taylor followed Emma Hart to the break room. It was quiet inside; everyone was busy working outside.

As they made tea, both remained silent. She added tea leaves, he poured water, and they worked together with an unspoken harmony.

Damien Sterling didn’t respond, simply gesturing for him to sit down.

Soon, Emma Hart and Matthew Taylor entered the office. Matthew Taylor placed the four cups of freshly brewed chrysanthemum tea on the coffee table and invited everyone to taste it. "Please try it and give us your valuable feedback," he said, drinking his tea first.

"It’s alright, Mrs. Harris, we’re not hungry yet," Emma Hart replied kindly. She then quickly followed Damien Sterling into the bedroom.

"Why did you suddenly get so cold?" Emma Hart complained, but Damien Sterling ignored her. He undressed and went into the bathroom, treating Emma like she was invisible.

"Hey, Damien Sterling, at least say something," Emma Hart said, frustrated by being ignored. It made her feel very angry.

"There’s nothing to say. I’m tired. Just take a shower, eat, and do whatever you need to do," Damien Sterling replied listlessly. Emma realized something must be wrong.

"What happened? Tell me," Emma Hart asked anxiously. Since they had returned from the break room, Damien Sterling had been acting strange.

"Just drop it. I’m exhausted. Let’s just rest early tonight," Damien Sterling said, turning on the shower. The sound of the water drowned out Emma’s voice, and he retreated into his own world.

Feeling helpless, Emma Hart changed into her home clothes and went downstairs. She didn’t know what else to do, so she went into the kitchen to help Mrs. Harris with dinner.

She told Mrs. Harris that Damien Sterling was in a bad mood, and they decided to cook some of his favorite dishes to cheer him up. Tonight’s menu included red wine braised beef and cream of mushroom soup.

"Dinner’s ready, Damien," Emma Hart called upstairs with anticipation, but all she received was a cold response.

Damien Sterling followed her down the stairs lazily. His eyes were vacant, and even though his favorite dishes were on the table, he couldn’t muster any enthusiasm.

Dinner was quiet, with only the sound of people chewing. Damien Sterling didn’t have the patience to enjoy the meal. Knowing that his rival was someone he knew well—a business partner and an equal—left him unable to focus. To him, the food tasted like ash.

After quickly finishing his meal, Damien Sterling went to his study without looking at Emma Hart.

Emma wondered if Damien knew something. She began to panic internally. This was all her fault—why had she gotten so close to Matthew Taylor in the first place?

That night, Emma Hart and Damien Sterling slept in separate rooms. Emma stayed in their bedroom, while Damien slept in the guest room next door. Despite having the big bed all to herself, Emma didn’t feel happy. She had once wished to distance herself from Damien Sterling, but now she didn’t want that at all.
