Chapter 417: The Strange Old Man

The other women in the restroom, frightened by the altercation, quickly fled the scene. Before long, both Amelia and the flight attendant tumbled to the ground, still pulling at each other’s clothes and hair.

Realizing the situation was getting out of hand and unable to stop the fight herself, Emma Hart hurriedly called Damien Sterling.

Upon receiving Emma’s call, Damien Sterling and Logan Harrington immediately contacted the bar’s staff and rushed to the restroom to restore order. Fortunately, the fight resulted only in disheveled clothing and minor scrapes, leading to a verbal agreement to end the conflict.

It was then that everyone noticed the mess of white cards scattered around the area where the fight had occurred. Emma Hart picked up one of the cards, only to discover it was a social circle contact card belonging to the flight attendant. The flight attendant’s face turned ashen.

"Don’t look at those!" she snapped, hurriedly crouching down to gather the fallen cards. Amelia Davidson struggled to suppress her laughter as she watched.

After the commotion, everyone composed themselves and returned to their seats to continue their night of celebration. It was their last night in Paris, as they were scheduled to fly back to City A the next day.

The following afternoon, Amelia Davidson and Logan Harrington packed their bags and took a helicopter back to City A to resume their work. Emma Hart, afraid of getting airsick on the helicopter, opted to take a plane with Damien Sterling instead. The memory of their previous helicopter ride to the island still made her feel nauseous.

Seated in first class, Emma Hart felt elated and well-prepared for the flight. She had packed an assortment of snacks, planning to enjoy them slowly during the trip.

Suddenly, "Ouch!" Emma’s head was struck by a hard object. Looking down, she saw a ukulele.

"Oh, sorry!" said an elderly man standing in the row in front of her.

"No problem, no problem!" Emma was momentarily dazed by the impact and had just registered that the elderly man spoke English.

"Haha, turns out we’re compatriots! Thank you, young lady!" The old man laughed heartily as he retrieved the ukulele Emma had picked up for him.

"Sir, can you play the ukulele?" Emma asked.

"Of course! I have a great love for musical instruments! Although I’ve only recently started learning this one. Do you like it too?" The old man looked at Emma, hoping she was a kindred spirit.

"I can’t play it, but I really love the music it produces," Emma said happily.

"How about this, I’ll play you a little tune, and you can tell me how I’m doing," the old man said, glancing around at the nearby passengers and then speaking softly to Emma.

"Yes, please!" Emma clapped her hands excitedly.

"Alright then, I’ll give it a shot!" The old man smiled and knelt on the seat in front of Emma, playing a simple rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star."

It was a basic tune, but Emma listened intently and appreciatively, which delighted the old man.

"Excuse me, sir, we’re about to take off. Please take your seat," a flight attendant interrupted after a few minutes, stopping the old man’s performance.

"Haha, my apologies!" the old man said, giving Emma a playful look of resignation before reluctantly sitting back down.

Like a restless child, he couldn’t stay seated for long. After a while, he turned around again to chat with Emma.

Damien Sterling, seated next to Emma, kept a wary eye on the old man.

The old man was quite the gossip. He asked about Emma and Damien’s relationship, their ages, families, and love lives. He also shared that he was a lonely widower.

After dinner, all the passengers quietly settled into their seats to read, listen to music, or watch movies. The only exception was the elderly man who had unbuckled his seatbelt and was wandering around the cabin. Strangely, no flight attendants stopped him.

The old man wore a fisherman’s hat, a white V-neck T-shirt, white pants, and Hawaiian flip-flops. With his ukulele in hand, he walked around the plane, playing and singing, searching for an audience, becoming a roaming musician.

"Do you think that old man is acting a bit strange?" Emma Hart asked Damien Sterling once the old man had left the first-class cabin.

Damien put down his newspaper and thought for a moment. Although he found the old man peculiar, he didn’t seem harmful. Smiling, he said to Emma, "He is a bit odd, but it looks like you get along with him quite well."

"Hmph!" Emma playfully slapped Damien’s arm before turning away and putting on her eye mask to sleep. Was he implying she was weird too?

After spending some time together, Emma found the old man to be very kind and friendly, far from the stereotypical old-fashioned elder. His thoughts were remarkably modern. They found common ground on several topics, making Emma feel as if she had met a kindred spirit.

Before long, the old man called for a flight attendant.

"Could you bring us three glasses of champagne, please? Thank you," he requested politely.

"Of course, please wait a moment," the flight attendant responded courteously. A few minutes later, she returned with a tray holding three glasses of champagne, bringing them to the first-class cabin.

The old man took a glass for himself and handed the other two to Emma and Damien, gesturing for a toast.

"Meeting you two kindred spirits up here in the sky has made my heart swell with joy. Let’s toast to our newfound friendship!" he exclaimed, his face already flushed with excitement.

Emma downed her glass in one go.

"Good girl! I like your spirit!" the old man praised, impressed by Emma’s boldness. They continued drinking and chatting enthusiastically.

Noticing how much Emma enjoyed the champagne, they had a few more rounds. Concerned, Damien tried to intervene, but it was too late. The old man and Emma soon began to feel the effects of the alcohol and started vomiting, filling the first-class cabin with the foul smell of alcohol and vomit. Several flight attendants rushed over to clean up the mess, and Emma, Damien, and the old man were moved to other seats in the first-class cabin to rest.

Fortunately, they were the only passengers in first class; otherwise, they would have faced significant complaints.

Time flew by on the plane, and soon they were preparing to land in City A. During the descent, the old man picked up his ukulele and started playing again, filling the cabin with soft, soothing music.
