Chapter 400: Unexpected Encounter at the Internet Café

"No, I’m sleeping. Gotta go."

Donald’s tone was incredibly cold, giving Damien a headache.

Damien called a contact back in H country to find Donald’s exact location—he was in District C.

Early the next morning, Damien had Emma hastily pack their bags and head to District C.

"What are we going to District C for? Is there something fun there?" Emma asked curiously in the car.

"I need to talk to Donald about something. Sorry for any inconvenience." Damien apologized to Emma.

Emma shook her head with a smile, "It’s no trouble at all! Get your business done, and then we can have fun!"

Although she regretted missing the highly recommended takoyaki place, priorities had to come first.

Upon arriving in District C, Damien settled Emma into the hotel and then went out alone to find Donald, who was supposedly at a nearby arcade.

Left alone in the room, Emma half-watched Japanese TV shows she couldn’t understand while chatting with Amelia Davidson on the phone Damien had set up for her.

After a while, feeling bored staying in the hotel alone, she downloaded a translation app, grabbed her ID and wallet, and sneaked out.

She had read online that District C’s internet cafes were famous and different from those back home, so she decided to check one out.

Conveniently, there was an internet café right next to her hotel.

The café was huge, like a small villa. As soon as she entered, the receptionist warmly welcomed her.

Emma relied entirely on the translation app to communicate, starting her solo adventure.

She grabbed some snacks, sweets, and drinks from the food section, returned to her small cubicle, and enthusiastically started playing a zombie war game.

Occasionally, she glanced at her phone to see if Damien had called, pretending to check in and ensure he hadn’t returned to the hotel yet.

She needed to get back to the hotel before Damien did.

Meanwhile, Damien was searching through various arcades for any sign of Donald. Alone in a foreign country, he had to be discreet about Donald’s situation. This rare honeymoon should not be ruined by Donald.

On the other side, Emma Hart had been sitting so long in the private room playing games that her butt was sore. She slowly moved her little bum, got up, and left the private room to explore other parts of the internet café.

The activity room, the coffee lounge...she finally decided to stop at the library. The room had mostly comic books, including many popular titles and some rare ones. By the bookshelves, many young people stood either browsing through the comics or reading them intently. This was probably the quietest place in the entire internet café.

Emma Hart gently pushed open the door to the comic room, set her phone to silent, and started searching for a comic that suited her taste. There it was! She found the latest volume of her favorite Japanese manga on the top shelf. Emma Hart estimated its position—it was a bit high, but she thought she could reach it with a jump.

Fixing her eyes on the comic, she leaped but failed. Looking around to make sure no one noticed, she resumed her stance and prepared for another try. "Hmm!" She made a faint sound from her throat. She reached it and successfully grabbed the book. Just as she was feeling proud of herself, her descending body suddenly collided with a hard object—a boy.

Emma Hart had bumped into the boy’s back, and he yelled at her in Japanese. "Sorry! Sorry!" Emma Hart apologized in clumsy Japanese. Suddenly, they both froze. Emma Hart looked up—wasn’t this Donald?

"Donald! What are you doing here? Your brother is looking everywhere for you!" Emma Hart asked in fluent Chinese.

"That’s not the point. The point is, why are you here? Alone?" Donald retorted. The two were talking past each other.

"Shh!" One of Donald’s friends came up to remind them. The commotion Emma Hart and Donald had caused was already annoying the other guests, who were now glaring at them with displeasure. Emma Hart and Donald gestured apologies to the people around them, then Emma Hart pulled Donald outside the comic room.

"Are you following me? What’s going on?" Donald asked Emma Hart angrily, showing extreme displeasure at the appearance of his cousin and cousin-in-law.

"We’re worried about you!" Emma Hart said. How could he speak like that? They had canceled their honeymoon to look for him!

"Thanks a lot, but mind your own business. Go back and tell my brother that since you know I’m alive, stop having Dad look for me. I won’t compromise on what he’s doing!" With that, Donald shook off Emma Hart’s hand forcefully and signaled to his friends in the comic room that it was time to leave this place.

Emma Hart was dumbfounded. His dad was also looking for him? What was going on?

Just as Donald’s two friends were heading towards the door, Emma Hart’s phone started buzzing continuously—it was Damien Sterling calling. "Ah! This is bad!" Emma Hart thought, realizing that Damien Sterling must have found her.

With her heart pounding, she answered the call. "Hello? Damien."

"Emma Hart, you must have a lot of nerve! Where have you run off to this time?"

As expected, Damien Sterling’s tone was not friendly. "I’m at XY Internet Café, come quickly, Donald is here too!" Emma Hart whispered into the phone, covering it with her hand.

Damien Sterling felt a shiver run through him when he heard the news. It turned out Donald had run to an internet café near their hotel. Emma Hart sure had guts, but they were lucky she did this time.

Damien Sterling took a taxi from an arcade five kilometers away from the XY internet café, speeding the whole way.

Outside the café, he saw Emma Hart trying to stop Donald from leaving.

"Donald!" Damien Sterling shouted as he hurriedly got out of the car.

His voice was full of anger, making Donald’s two Japanese friends step back in fear.

Emma Hart and Donald also stopped struggling.

Donald’s face was flushed with anger. He couldn’t understand why these two people kept interfering in his business. In a burst of growing resentment, he suddenly pushed Emma Hart away, almost causing her to fall.

"Let’s go!" he said in Japanese to his two friends, heading down the street furthest from Damien Sterling.

Damien Sterling quickly walked over to Emma Hart, holding her supportively and asking, "Are you hurt?"

Emma Hart shook her head repeatedly. She had no physical injuries, but her heart had taken a blow.

This boy, just a bit younger than her brother, was far more ruthless than her brother could ever be. The vicious look in his eyes made Emma Hart think that if she wasn’t someone close to Damien Sterling, Donald might have sent her to the hospital.

After confirming Emma Hart was okay, Damien Sterling yelled at Donald in fury. He stepped forward, grabbed Donald by his school uniform collar, and threw him to the ground.

Donald closed his eyes tightly in pain, crying out.

Donald’s two friends wanted to help him but hesitated when they saw Damien Sterling’s fierce, wolf-like gaze. They felt defeated even before they started. They hesitated, then helped Donald up.

Donald slowly got off the ground, his buttocks hitting first, now feeling like he was sitting on a bed of needles.

"Get out of here," Damien Sterling said coldly.

Donald’s eyes dimmed. He spoke in a chilly tone, "I hope you don’t come looking for me again. That man included. Forget about me."

His words sounded like a farewell. With that, Donald left the internet café supported by his friends.

One of his friends glanced back at Damien Sterling and Emma Hart, sneering lightly.

"It’s over. Let’s go back," Damien Sterling said, placing his right hand on Emma Hart’s shoulder as they turned to leave.

He thought maybe it had been a mistake to come looking for Donald.

Ha, if even his own biological father couldn’t handle Donald, what right did Damien Sterling have to interfere?

The internet café was close to the hotel, but they still had to walk a bit.

The street was fairly quiet, with not many pedestrians. Emma Hart hesitated a bit before deciding to ask about Donald.

She thought Damien Sterling would refuse to answer, but she was wrong.

Damien Sterling told her that Donald was actually the illegitimate son of Damien Sterling’s uncle. After finishing his first year of junior high, Donald was sent to Japan for schooling and hadn’t returned since. His uncle only occasionally called to check on him.

"Is Donald always this rebellious because no one looks after him?" Emma Hart asked.

"I’m not entirely sure about the details. Last time I saw my uncle, he told me that Donald hadn’t contacted him for three months. When he asked the school, they said Donald had taken a leave of absence. They’ve searched for him in Japan for a long time but haven’t found him," Damien Sterling’s voice was still filled with concern for Donald.

Emma Hart frowned, pondering for a moment before saying, "Actually, I don’t think Donald is inherently bad. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have saved me at the amusement park that day and then wanted to fight you."

She turned to look at Damien Sterling, who was just staring at the road in silence.

"He might have a reason for acting out like this," Emma Hart continued.

"Maybe," Damien Sterling responded.

After lunch, Emma Hart helped Damien Sterling with a massage in the hotel. The morning’s events had been exhausting.

Emma Hart’s massage skills had been improving. After she finished massaging Damien Sterling’s neck, he unknowingly fell asleep.

"Damien Sterling?" Emma Hart gently called his name. When she confirmed he was asleep, she slowly lowered the arm she had just been massaging. She covered him with a blanket, then went to the couch, turned her phone to silent mode, and started snacking.

Because of Donald’s outburst that day, everyone was in low spirits, making it hard to enjoy their meal.

In the afternoon, they decided to take a walk in the residential area of C District.

It was school dismissal time, so the neighborhood was filled with children’s laughter and the chatter of housewives talking with neighbors.

Before long, the aroma of dinner wafted out from the windows of the houses.

Damien Sterling and Emma Hart walked to the seaside. It was May, and the sea breeze was no longer cold but refreshingly cool.

They sat down by the sea, not speaking for a long time.

The ships in the distance had already docked when Emma Hart suddenly had an idea.

"Those must be fishing boats, right? How about we try buying some fish from them and cook it ourselves?" Emma Hart asked Damien Sterling excitedly.

Damien Sterling was surprised by her suggestion. He had never thought of doing that before. Eating fish had always been either at a seafood restaurant or home-cooked by Mrs. Harris, but cooking it themselves?

"Sure, why not? Let’s give it a try," Damien Sterling wanted to see how Emma Hart planned to cook the fish.

They bought a few fish from the fishermen who had just come ashore and rented a small room nearby, planning to stay the night and experience authentic Japanese life.

Emma Hart suggested buying some rice from the locals and grilling the fish.

To make up for Emma Hart missing out on takoyaki, Damien Sterling decided to ask the neighbors for some rice.

Using his good looks and polite manners, Damien Sterling quickly bought rice from the neighbors.

Returning to their rented place, Emma Hart had already cleaned the fish and bought some vegetables and seasonings from the supermarket downstairs. They rented a grill and set it up on the balcony.

They placed the food on the grill, sprinkled the seasonings, and enjoyed the aroma of the grilling fish while basking in the sea breeze.

At 8 PM, Damien Sterling’s phone rang. It was Donald calling.

"Bro! Help me, please!" Donald’s voice trembled with fear and tears. From the phone, it was clear he was in a very noisy environment.

Damien Sterling’s brow furrowed deeply, a sense of unease growing within him.

"Where are you?" Damien Sterling asked.

"I’m in room 208 on the second floor of VV Bar. There are bad guys outside, I can’t get out. Please come save me!" Donald was almost in tears.

Emma Hart looked at Damien Sterling with great concern; she knew something must have happened to Donald.

The next second, Damien Sterling put down his bowl and chopsticks, walked to the other side of the balcony, and made a phone call. He spoke a series of serious words in Japanese that Emma Hart couldn’t understand.

"Is it Donald? What happened?" Emma Hart asked, her hands cold with fear, as Damien Sterling hung up and quickly went inside to change clothes.

"Donald’s in a bit of trouble. It’s nothing serious. I’ll be back soon," Damien Sterling said as he put on his clothes and shoes, ready to leave.

"I want to go too," Emma Hart said, grabbing Damien Sterling’s hand.

Her hands were cold, and Damien Sterling could feel her fear and anxiety.

He hugged Emma Hart, calmly saying, "Don’t worry. It’s just some kid’s trouble, it’ll be over soon. Stay here and don’t leave this time!"

With that, Damien Sterling released Emma Hart, kissed her forehead, and rushed out the door, leaving no chance for her to argue.
