Chapter 387: Why She Likes Him

"Yeah, the driver is waiting for me downstairs!" Emma Hart replied.

"Oh." Ryan Garcia responded, silently cursing himself for asking such a stupid question.

As they exited the company’s first-floor lobby, the driver was already waiting respectfully for Emma Hart’s arrival.

"Mrs. Sterling! Mr. Garcia!" the driver greeted them as they approached.

"Uncle Lee, you don’t look too well," Emma Hart said as she walked closer to the driver, noticing his forced smile and pale lips.

"I... I’m fine, Mrs. Sterling, just a bit of a stomach ache. It won’t affect anything—" Before the driver could finish, he clutched his stomach, his face contorting in pain.

"Uncle Lee!" Emma Hart hurriedly bent down to support him.

"In your condition, you should go to the hospital," Ryan Garcia said, standing nearby.

"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Garcia and Mrs. Sterling. I’m fine, really. I can still drive Mrs. Sterling home," the driver insisted.

His body was trembling slightly, and sweat was forming on his forehead, all of which did not escape Ryan Garcia’s notice.

"How about this: I’ll take her home, and you go to the hospital. If something happens on the way, you won’t be able to explain it to Mr. Sterling, right?" Ryan Garcia said with a frown.

"This..." The driver hesitated repeatedly.

"Uncle Lee, let him drive me home. You should go to the hospital," Emma Hart also urged.

Considering the driver’s age, Emma Hart was worried something might happen on the way.

"Alright then," the driver agreed, knowing he couldn’t afford to risk Mrs. Sterling’s safety on the road.

"The hospital isn’t far from here. Get in the car, and I’ll drive you there first," Ryan Garcia said, getting into the driver’s seat.

Emma Hart helped the driver into the back seat.

"Thank you, Mr. Garcia, Mrs. Sterling!" the driver said as he climbed into the car.

Ryan Garcia’s driving skills were impeccable—fast and steady. They quickly arrived at the hospital entrance. The driver got out, thanked Ryan Garcia and Emma Hart again, and watched them leave before entering the hospital himself.

The hospital wasn’t far from the Sterling family’s villa, but due to road construction, they had to take a longer route, which would take at least twenty minutes even with Ryan Garcia’s driving skills.

In the car, Emma Hart’s perfume filled Ryan Garcia’s nose, making him slightly uneasy.

Emma Hart alternated between looking out the window and checking the time on her phone, clearly anxious.

"Ryan Garcia, how much longer until we get there?" Emma Hart asked.

Her afternoon class was about to start, and she didn’t want to keep the teacher waiting.

"About twenty minutes," Ryan Garcia replied.

His voice was calm but had a slight tremor, making it sound odd.

"The usual route is under construction, so we have to take a detour," he added.

"Sigh, alright," Emma Hart gave up on urging him. She had experienced Ryan Garcia’s driving skills when she was sick last time; if he said it would take twenty minutes, then there was nothing more to be done.

"How’s your recovery?" Ryan Garcia asked, glancing at Emma Hart through the rearview mirror as she leaned on the car door handle.

"I’m much better," Emma Hart thought. Since they had to wait, they might as well enjoy the time. She decided to start a conversation. "By the way, thanks for driving me to the hospital last time. How did you get so good at driving?"

Talking about his driving skills, Ryan Garcia almost burst with pride. "Haha, let me tell you, when I was in Country A, I was a professional race car driver. I even won some championships!"

"What about after you came back? Do you still race?" Emma Hart asked.

"I haven’t raced in a long time. I came back to take care of my mom. And now... I just don’t feel like it anymore." The light in Ryan Garcia’s eyes dimmed as he spoke.

Emma Hart realized she had touched on a sensitive topic. "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to..." She was just trying to make small talk and didn’t expect to bring up Brianna Baker.

"It’s okay. See, I’m still doing just fine," Ryan Garcia said, turning his head slightly towards Emma Hart and giving her a reassuring smile.

"By the way, can I ask you something?" Ryan Garcia suddenly remembered a particularly awkward question that had puzzled him for a while.

"Sure, go ahead," Emma Hart replied, not thinking much of it.

"How old are you, exactly?" Ryan Garcia asked.

Emma Hart’s mature style often made her look like she was in her mid-twenties, but her mannerisms were youthful. Today, her fashion was notably more stylish, adding to Ryan’s confusion.

"I’m twenty-three," Emma Hart answered without hesitation.

Ryan Garcia’s eyes widened in surprise, and he hit the brakes hard, stopping at a red light. "What? You’re only twenty-three?" he exclaimed, turning towards her in shock.

"What? Do I look that old?" Emma Hart was quite unhappy with Ryan’s reaction.

"Honk, honk, honk!" Continuous car horns blared from behind.

Emma Hart glanced ahead and saw the light had turned green. "Stop staring and drive, it’s green!" she urged.

Ryan Garcia snapped back to reality and continued driving. He couldn’t believe Emma Hart was younger than him by two or three years. What a shame—she seemed quite nice, but Damien Sterling had overshadowed her.

"Hey, can I ask you one more thing?" Ryan Garcia asked playfully.

"Go ahead," Emma Hart replied, still annoyed. Did she really look that old?

"How did you and my brother get together?" Ryan Garcia asked, genuinely curious.

Emma Hart had some charm, but her talents, education, looks, and personality were not particularly outstanding. Why did Damien Sterling choose her? Plus, her family’s situation didn’t seem remarkable either.

"It’s complicated. Hey, don’t worry about it, kid!" Emma Hart’s face flushed as she spoke, recalling a past she preferred to forget.

Through the mirror, Ryan Garcia saw Emma Hart’s blushing face, reminiscent of when she had a fever. He smirked mischievously but decided not to press further.

"Alright then," Ryan Garcia said.

Eighteen minutes later, the car stopped in front of the Sterling family’s villa right on time. Emma Hart thanked Ryan Garcia and hurried inside. Ryan Garcia drove back to the company.
