Chapter 355: Going to the Countryside(3)
"Ha ha ha ha!" Emma Hart seemed fearless, completely unafraid of what Damien Sterling might do to her once he came out.
"Emma Hart! Just you wait!" Damien Sterling’s voice, filled with a mix of annoyance and intrigue, penetrated the bathroom door and the sound of the shower, reaching Emma’s ears.
Suddenly, Emma’s laughter stopped.
Damien thought his stern tone had scared her, feeling a sense of pride. He thought, did this little wildcat really think she could contend with Damien Sterling with just a few tricks?
However, unbeknownst to him, Emma was suddenly gripped by severe abdominal pain, causing her to crouch on the wooden floor.
Her eyes widened in shock. The bathroom door was unlocked. Clutching her stomach with one hand, she used the other to push the door open and rushed inside.
"Hey!" Damien was so startled by Emma’s sudden entry that he almost let out a shout.
Emma had no time to tease Damien anymore. She hurriedly sat on the toilet, her body releasing everything.
The foul smell quickly spread throughout the bathroom.
Helpless, Damien silently conceded the "throne" to Emma and stepped out to dry himself off.
"Ah!" Emma’s scream echoed from the bathroom.
Damien immediately knocked on the door, concerned, "Emma Hart! What’s wrong?"
When Emma didn’t respond for a while, Damien was about to break the door down when she finally spoke, "Nothing, I just... have a stomach ache..."
"I think I have food poisoning," Emma admitted.
Leaning against the bathroom door with his arms crossed, Damien replied casually, "Didn’t I tell you to eat less junk food? Regretting it now?" He suspected it was probably the roasted chicken they had.
"..." Emma had no rebuttal.
After seven bouts, Emma finally emerged from the bathroom with Damien’s support and collapsed onto the bed.
"Ugh... How could this happen... Everything tasted so good," Emma murmured in frustration, disappointed that she couldn’t enjoy such a delicious meal without consequence.
Damien Sterling brought a glass of warm water to Emma Hart.
"Feeling any better?" Damien asked with genuine concern.
"Much better, though I might need a few more trips to the bathroom..." Emma replied, a bit embarrassed.
"I should call a doctor for you... and tomorrow, I’m shutting down that barbecue stand!" Damien’s anger flared as he thought about it.
"No, no, no!" Emma quickly intervened. "They’re just trying to make a living. I’m fine, really."
Damien turned back to Emma, still fuming but seeing her pleading eyes.
"Come on, they have it tough too. Besides, I’m feeling much better now!" Emma tried to hide the lingering pain in her stomach. She knew she had to calm the storm that was Damien. Hang in there, Emma Hart! You’ve got this!
That night, Emma drank several cups of hot water and cuddled up to Damien for comfort. Early the next morning, she sneaked to the bathroom while Damien was still asleep, finally emptying her stomach and finding relief.
They decided to explore Peach Blossom Town that day but agreed not to eat anything from street vendors.
Emma and Mrs. Harris wandered around the big wooden house with the two children. It was too hot outside, and the place was bustling with people, the most lively spot in town.
Damien and Assistant Lee were surveying the outskirts of Peach Blossom Town.
The town was peaceful and its residents were kind-hearted, the kind of place where people slept with their doors and windows wide open. The climate was mostly a pleasant 25 degrees, with a diverse array of vegetation.
"Mr. Sterling, I don’t think this place is suitable for tourism development," Assistant Lee said.
"Oh? Why is that?" Damien asked.
"Look at these roads, full of potholes and mud. Besides the good weather, friendly people, and that big tree at the town entrance, there’s nothing unique about it."
"You have a point," Damien responded. He picked up a fallen peach blossom petal and said, "Then we’ll make it unique."
If it’s called Peach Blossom Town, it should be filled with peach blossoms, with children running among the flowers, not just elderly ladies dancing in the square.
Damien Sterling decided to include Peach Blossom Town in Sterling Group’s tourism development projects and planned to fill the area with peach blossom trees.
The plan was quickly drafted and sent to the headquarters.
Damien was now in a video call with the new head of the design department.
The call connected:
"Lucy Allen? Weren’t you in the PR department?" Damien’s brows furrowed in surprise.
"Ha! Senior, did you forget I’m the famous Lucy Allen, an art graduate from a top university? I heard from HR that the design director position has been vacant since Ms. Greenwood left, so I thought I’d give it a try." Lucy Allen proudly patted her chest, relishing the moment she finally stood above Sophia Greenwood.
"Alright, congratulations. Now, let’s get down to business. Assistant Lee and I have done a preliminary survey. He knows my thoughts, so I’ll let him brief you." Damien stood up from the stone bench, signaling Assistant Lee to take over.
Damien, always perceptive, caught a fleeting look of disappointment in Lucy’s eyes as he stepped away.
The meeting concluded, and Assistant Lee quickly jotted down Lucy’s suggestions in his notebook.
"Seriously, Assistant Lee, in this day and age, you’re still using a notebook? Isn’t a recorder or a laptop more efficient?" Damien was puzzled by Assistant Lee’s old-fashioned method.
"Heh, Mr. Sterling, it’s a habit I’ve had for years. I’m faster with a pen than those secretaries with their laptops and iPads." It was clear he was referring to Damien’s tall-legged secretary.
"Alright, let’s get back on track. What are the specific changes?" Damien steered the conversation back to the main topic.
"Director Allen appreciates Mr. Sterling’s vision. She suggests creating a visitor’s lounge at the entrance of Peach Blossom Town, right next to the towering ancient tree," Assistant Lee read from his notes.
Damien agreed with the plan to build a rest area at the entrance. The ancient tree at the town’s entrance was a major attraction, its vast canopy providing ample shade. Damien and his team had initially entered through the back gate by mistake because it was dark.
The tree at the main entrance was indeed impressive, and its broad shade would make an excellent rest area for visitors.
