"I don’t know what got into me today. I woke up naturally at five and, finding it too boring to stay in bed, decided to get up and make breakfast." Emma Hart’s smile was as warm and refreshing as the morning sun.

The relationship between the couple had been improving significantly. They often tried to outdo each other in acts of kindness, even taking over each other’s chores, which, although unconventional, was heartwarming as long as it made them happy.

"Mrs. Harris, look! This is the latest Japanese breakfast I learned to make from an online recipe! Ta-da!" Emma proudly presented her latest creation to Mrs. Harris.

It included white rice with a pickled plum, miso soup with a piece of seaweed, tofu drizzled with soy sauce, and a box of natto—typical components of a breakfast seen in Japanese dramas.

"I was planning to fry some fish too, but then I realized we didn’t have any..." Emma blushed at her oversight, scratching the back of her head and sticking out her tongue playfully.

"Emma, what made you suddenly decide to learn how to make a Japanese breakfast?" Mrs. Harris asked, puzzled.

"Well, Mr. Sterling often goes out to eat Japanese cuisine. I figured he might enjoy a Japanese breakfast as well, so I thought I’d give it a try and surprise him." As she spoke, Emma’s face turned an even deeper shade of red.

"Emma, you’re amazing. Mr. Sterling is so lucky to have you!" Mrs. Harris said sincerely. She couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret for not having taken such thoughtful care of her own husband, who was no longer with her.

Maybe that’s the advantage of developing feelings after marriage. Even with the responsibilities of married life, they could still savor the sweetness of love, something truly enviable.

"What made you decide to make this kind of breakfast for me?" he asked with a smile. In truth, he already knew. He had noticed Emma’s absence early in the morning and overheard her conversation with Mrs. Harris while searching for her.

"It’s nothing. I just recently developed a taste for Japanese cuisine and remembered you liked it too. So, I thought I’d use you as my guinea pig!" Emma replied, feigning nonchalance. Her flushed face betrayed her true feelings.

Seeing her face so red and adorable, Damien couldn’t help but fall even more in love with her. She had gone through so much trouble just for him. It seemed all his affection for her was well-placed.

Damien held her in that position for nearly ten minutes, neither speaking nor moving, just staring at her with a goofy smile.

"Hey?" Emma waved her hand in front of his face, bringing him back from his daydream.

"What were you thinking about? Hurry up and try the breakfast before it gets cold!" she urged with a hint of annoyance.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Damien chuckled inwardly. As much as he liked Japanese breakfast, he loved Emma even more.

This woman still wouldn’t admit she made it especially for him. Damien decided he would have to give her a little punishment for that.

Damien Sterling’s grip tightened around Emma Hart, pulling her closer. With a mischievous glint in his eye and a raised eyebrow, he teased, "The president of Sterling Group, reduced to a guinea pig? Isn’t that a bit beneath me? But if you insist, I’ll comply—only if you feed me."

Emma instantly regretted her words. She had dug herself into a hole, and Damien’s firm hold made it clear she had little choice but to comply.

Sighing inwardly, Emma picked up the bowl of miso soup and stirred it gently before lifting a spoonful to Damien’s lips. His childlike actions made her heart flutter and her cheeks burn. Were they flirting? The thought made her both shy and thrilled, the intimacy almost too much to bear.

From the backyard, Mrs. Harris, pretending to prune the bonsai, peeked through the living room’s floor-to-ceiling windows. She should have taken a picture of this scene—it was both blush-inducing and enviably sweet.

This breakfast was turning into quite the scandalous affair, Emma thought. Finally, after feeding Damien the last spoonful, she felt a wave of relief. She could finally escape this eighteen-plus situation.

"All done! Time to get up!" she announced, attempting to rise, but Damien still held her with that mischievous smile.

Emma looked at him with wide eyes. "What now?"

"Don’t be in such a rush, darling. If I remember correctly, you haven’t eaten yet," Damien said, reaching for her untouched breakfast.

You can’t be serious, Emma thought, feeling both amused and exasperated.

"Come on! Ah—" Damien beamed, clearly enjoying himself.

For a moment, Emma thought she saw a glimmer in his smile, a softness that quickly reverted to his usual playful smirk.

After breakfast, as Emma hummed a tune while tidying up, Damien approached the table.

"Emma, there’s something I need to tell you," Damien said, his tone suddenly serious.

"Hmm? What is it?" Emma asked, looking up with curiosity.
