Chapter 327: Island Getaway (1)
After dinner, Emma Hart lounged on the sofa, scrolling through her phone to find a perfect vacation spot. "In this cold weather, we should head south to escape the chill!" she muttered to herself, patting her legs as she browsed.
"What kind of position is that?" Damien Sterling questioned, looking at Emma’s peculiar posture with a mix of curiosity and mild disdain. She lay on the sofa in an M-shape, her free hand repeatedly massaging her calf—decidedly inelegant.
"Don’t worry about it! It’s really relaxing, Mr. Sterling. Want to give it a try?" Emma ignored Damien’s slightly contorted expression and even invited him to join in.
Damien suddenly felt a headache coming on. He couldn’t believe his wife could adopt such an ungraceful position. He swiftly moved to the end of the sofa, placing her feet down firmly. "Emma Hart! Put your feet down! It’s so unseemly!"
"Ugh..." Emma reluctantly straightened her legs and sat up properly. "Mr. Sterling, is there any place you want to visit?" she asked.
"Wherever you all want to go," Damien replied indifferently. Traveling was neither a passion nor an aversion for him.
"That’s no fun! Let’s brainstorm together," Emma suggested. "By the way, where have you been before?" she inquired.
"LSJ, JND, LD, YGL, BL, BLD, TG, MD..." Damien rattled off a list of cities and countries.
"Alright, alright, stop! Is there anywhere you haven’t been?" Emma interrupted, feeling a pang of exasperation. The disparity between them was stark; while some never left their hometowns, Damien had effortlessly toured the globe.
"Haven’t been to... FZ, BD, DM, and many places in our own country," Damien mused aloud.
"Really?" Emma looked at Damien in disbelief. He had never traveled domestically.
"Why not?" Emma asked.
"Our family prefers international trips," Damien answered nonchalantly.
"But there are plenty of great places here too!" Emma pondered for a moment, then an idea struck her. "Let’s go to an island! It’s perfect for escaping the cold right now."
"Domestic? Sure," Damien agreed without hesitation.
"When are we leaving?" Emma Hart asked excitedly.
"Now," Damien Sterling replied. He immediately made a call, "Tom, come pick us up for the island trip. Four people."
Emma’s eyes widened in disbelief, "Now?"
"Yes, go pack a few clothes and the kids’ necessities," Damien said, lounging casually on the sofa. An island trip? He found himself looking forward to it because it was with them.
"For how long?" Emma asked.
"About a week," Damien replied.
Emma rushed upstairs to pack. Clothes, toiletries, Damien’s razor, her makeup, diapers for the babies—she hurriedly gathered everything, dropping items in her haste.
Damien enjoyed watching Emma in her flustered state; it was incredibly endearing.
A loud, roaring noise grew nearer to the Sterling mansion. Emma knew it must be the helicopter. She quickly stuffed everything into the suitcase and rushed downstairs.
"Wait, wait, almost done!" Emma called out, dragging the suitcase into the living room before dashing to the kitchen to grab the baby formula.
Damien couldn’t hold back his laughter. He strolled to the kitchen doorway, "No need to rush. We have plenty of time; Tom can wait for us."
Tom, Damien’s private helicopter pilot, was used to such impromptu trips.
"Damien Sterling!" Emma shouted angrily, her hair in disarray from the frantic packing. This infuriating man! Not informing her earlier made her rush unnecessarily.
"Alright, my fault. Take your time, no rush," Damien said, coming up behind her and wrapping her in a hug, planting a kiss on her flushed cheek. He then went to the backyard to tell Tom to wait a bit longer.
Emma took a deep breath, composed herself, and double-checked the luggage. Once everything was in order, Tom came down to help carry the suitcase. Damien and Emma each carried a child as they boarded the helicopter.
The spacious cabin comfortably accommodated three adults, two children, and a large suitcase. It was equipped with a TV, drinks, snacks, and two baby seats.
Damien secured the children in their seats, then turned to fasten Emma’s seatbelt with a gentle smile.
As the helicopter began its ascent, the two children, far from being scared, burst into excited laughter. They waved their arms and legs as if urging, "Higher! Higher!" Damien Sterling watched his sons’ reactions with satisfaction. Being a Sterling meant being fearless, even at such heights.
In stark contrast, Emma Hart had her eyes tightly shut, screaming in fear. Helicopters, unlike planes, didn’t provide her the same sense of security.
Damien wrapped his arms around her, whispering reassurances in her ear, encouraging her to open her eyes and look outside. After a moment of silence, Emma took a deep breath, clutching Damien’s hand tightly. Slowly, she opened her eyes.
From her vantage point, she could see everything from above. The towering skyscrapers and tall people below looked like tiny specks. The cityscape quickly transformed into a lush, verdant landscape. It was beautiful, yet the height made her body tingle with nervous excitement. This was Damien Sterling’s helicopter, so it must be safe and sturdy, right?
Thinking this, she still didn’t let go of Damien’s hand. The flight from A City to the island only took about half an hour. In that time, Emma began to adjust to the sensation of being airborne.
When she checked on the children, she found them fast asleep, worn out from their excitement.
"They’re so carefree," Emma marveled.
"Our sons are much braver than their cowardly mothers," Damien teased with a smile.
"I’m not a coward!"
Emma stuck out her tongue and made a playful face at Damien. He laughed softly, his usual icy demeanor seeming to melt in the warm sunlight.
Emma still looks like a naughty girl, not like a mother with a child at all.
The helicopter descended near the foot of a mountain by the sea. A reception vehicle was already waiting for them.
This mountain, called Wana Mountain, was a five-star tourist attraction on the island. It was lush with tropical vegetation and offered various recreational activities, the most famous of which was the Flame Suspension Bridge.
