Chapter 325: Returning to Emma’s Home

Chapter 325: Returning to Emma’s Home

Despite her reluctance, Emma Hart knew she had to call back—it was family, after all.

"Hello? Emma! Merry Christmas!" Her mother’s joyful voice came through the line.

"Merry Christmas, Mom!" Emma replied, feeling a warmth she hadn’t felt in a long time. It was rare for her family’s first words not to be about money.

"Emma, it’s been so long since you came home. When will you visit us?" her mother asked.

"Uh... well..." Emma hesitated. She didn’t really want to go back because she felt her family only cared about her for her money.

"Hello, ma’am, this is Damien Sterling." Overhearing the conversation and seeing Emma’s distress, Damien took the phone from her.

"Damien! Merry Christmas! How have you been?" Her mother’s excitement was palpable. Having such an impressive son-in-law speak to her was a thrill.

"Merry Christmas, ma’am. Emma and I will come over for dinner tonight," Damien said politely, quickly wrapping up the conversation.

"You! You didn’t even ask me! How could you agree so quickly?" Emma was not happy. Though Damien had accepted, she...

"Don’t worry. I’ll handle everything. Besides, it’s been a long time since you’ve seen them. Let’s go together," Damien said nonchalantly. He didn’t consider dealing with in-laws a big deal.

It’s all about the gifts, Damien thought, understanding exactly what Emma’s family was after.

"So... tonight... are you really coming with me?" Emma asked cautiously.

"You don’t want me to go?" Damien replied, and as Emma was about to clarify, he flashed a mischievous smile and said, "Even if you don’t want me to, I’m still going!"

As a businessman, it was hard for Damien to do anything without considering the potential benefits. Visiting Emma’s family wasn’t just about making nice; it was a chance to see if anyone else was currying favor with them and to personally observe Max’s recent behavior.

At six o’clock in the evening, two luxury cars were parked outside Emma Hart’s family community. One was a black Bugatti, and the other was Damien Sterling’s latest acquisition—a deep purple Bugatti.

When Emma first saw the car, she couldn’t help but smile wryly. Why did Damien have such an obsession with Bugattis? It wasn’t surprising he got another one, but why such a conspicuous color?

The black Bugatti was loaded with gifts for Emma’s family, while the purple one was their ride. Damien knew how much Emma’s grandmother loved showing off.

The appearance of the two Bugattis drew the attention of the neighbors, many of whom took out their phones to capture the scene.

Emma’s entire family came downstairs to greet them, delightedly accepting the branded gifts from Damien.

Upstairs, they sat down for dinner. The spread was simple home-cooked dishes. Damien barely ate, but Emma enjoyed the meal heartily. The family assumed Damien wasn’t used to such humble fare.

In truth, Damien found Emma’s family’s long-standing behavior repulsive, and it made him reject everything about them, including their food. Besides, the dishes were far beneath the gourmet standards he was accustomed to.

After dinner, Emma sat with her mother for a while, her grandmother munching on sunflower seeds in front of the TV. Damien called Max into a room.

"Brother-in-law! What’s up?" Max asked.

"You’re not hanging out with those troublemakers anymore, right?" Damien inquired.

"No, brother-in-law! I’ve been listening to you and staying out of trouble!" Max replied earnestly.

"Good. You wanted a job, didn’t you? I’m thinking of hiring you," Damien said, a sly smile playing on his lips.

"Really, brother-in-law? But... what could I possibly do?" Max’s initial excitement was quickly overshadowed by doubt.

Damien thought to himself, this kid is truly Emma’s brother. His reactions mirrored hers perfectly.

"It’s simple. I remember you studied computer science. I have a USB drive that’s password-protected. I want you to crack it and send me the password. Do this, and I’ll pay you ten thousand dollars," Damien said, handing the USB drive to Max.

"Sure thing, Mr. Sterling!" Max exclaimed with excitement.

"But remember, this is confidential. Don’t breathe a word of it to anyone," Damien Sterling warned Max sternly.

"Yes, Mr. Sterling! I promise to complete the task promptly!" Max saluted, his enthusiasm unwavering.

Damien smiled down at him, patting Max on the back in encouragement before leaving his room.

As they walked back into the living room, Damien glanced at Emma, who was engrossed in conversation with her mother. "Emma, we should get going. The kids will start crying if they don’t see you soon."

Though reluctant to leave, Emma’s mother chimed in, "Emma, Damien is right. You should get some rest. Come visit us again when you can."

Emma’s mother stood up to see them off, prompting Emma to follow suit.

Damien held the door open, making it clear that it was time to leave.

"Take care, Mr. Sterling, Sis!" Max called out in farewell.

Even Emma’s grandmother, who had been munching on sunflower seeds, hurried to the door. She grasped Damien’s hand, bidding him a fond farewell.

Despite the favoritism and tension she often felt, Emma always found a certain comfort in her family’s home. Ignoring her grandmother’s sharpness, she could still sense a semblance of happiness in this house.

Downstairs, a crowd had gathered, drawn by the presence of the two luxury cars. They had quickly identified the tall, handsome man as Damien Sterling. Phones were out, ready to capture the moment. As Emma and Damien stepped out of the elevator, they were met with a sea of people, even spilling out onto the street.

Emma felt overwhelmed by the attention, while Damien remained indifferent to the cameras. However, the lack of decorum from the crowd, pressing in to take photos, irritated him. Struggling to contain his anger, he gestured for his five bodyguards to disperse the crowd, but with little success.

"Let’s go," Damien said, his tone firm as he shielded Emma and guided her through the throng.

The two of them, surrounded by the flashing lights of cameras, made their way to the car. Damien’s grip on Emma’s hand was firm, protective, a silent promise that no matter how chaotic things got, he would always be there to guide her through.
