Chapter 314: The Date
Chapter 314: The Date
"Damien, we haven’t had a get-together in ages. How about you invite Emma Hart, and I’ll bring my goddess? The four of us can have a great time," Logan Harrington suggested, his eyes filled with anticipation as he looked at Damien Sterling.
"Sure, let’s have it at your place then," Damien replied, raising his left eyebrow with a mischievous grin.
"Oh, you’re so bad! You know how my grandma is... let’s do it at your place instead," Logan protested, visibly displeased at the mention of his grandmother. Then, like a puppy eager for approval, he gave Damien a pleading look, nearly snuggling up to him.
Although Damien wasn’t opposed to the idea, Logan’s behavior made him cringe. Pretending to hesitate, he watched as Logan got even closer, worried that the secretary outside might see them and it could affect his public image. Reluctantly, he agreed before Logan could embarrass him further.
"Alright, alright! My place it is, tonight!" Damien conceded, stepping back with an air of nonchalance.
"Yeah!" Logan cheered, making a victory sign and dashing towards the door.
"It’s settled then, seven o’clock tonight. I’ll bring my goddess to your place. Don’t be late, and we’re drinking till we drop!" Logan declared, bouncing out of the office like an overgrown child.
Noticing the strange look from his long-legged secretary, he quickly composed himself into his usual aloof demeanor. The secretary, baffled by the contrast, wondered how a cool and composed man like Damien could have such a goofy friend.
"Hello, Mrs. Harris, we have two important guests coming tonight. Prepare some of your best dishes," Damien instructed over the phone.
"Yes, Mr. Sterling, I’ll get started right away," Mrs. Harris replied, immediately sending two maids to buy groceries.
Emma Hart, who was watching TV in the living room, noticed the sudden activity. "Mrs. Harris, why the rush to buy groceries? Are we expecting guests?"
"Yes, Mrs. Sterling. Mr. Sterling mentioned two very important guests for dinner tonight and asked me to prepare our best dishes," Mrs. Harris explained, delighted at the opportunity to showcase her culinary skills.
"Who are they?" Emma inquired.
"Mr. Sterling didn’t say," Mrs. Harris responded.
Emma’s curiosity was piqued, and she began to imagine various possibilities. Could it be Mr. Sterling Senior and Ryan Garcia’s father? Or perhaps Ryan Garcia and Brianna Baker, with their names kept secret? Or maybe... Sophia Greenwood?
But when the guests finally arrived, Emma realized her intuition had been completely off. It was Amelia Davidson and Logan Harrington!
Amelia Davidson was as flamboyant as ever, while Logan Harrington played the role of a loyal puppy.
"Amelia! It’s you guys! Damien Sterling refused to tell me!" Emma Hart exclaimed as she rushed forward, hugging her long-lost friend, Amelia Davidson.
Seeing this, Logan Harrington felt a pang of jealousy. Emma Hart, flirting with my goddess? Well, two can play that game. He thought to himself and mimicked Emma’s tone and actions, throwing himself at Damien Sterling. "Mr. Sterling! I’ve missed you so much!"
Damien coldly blocked Logan’s advance with his broad hand. "Come in, it’s time to eat."
Emma led Amelia and Logan to the dining room, where Mrs. Harris had laid out a feast of carefully prepared Chinese dishes.
"Wow, Emma, you’ve been living the high life without telling me!" Amelia said in a mock-complaining yet affectionate tone.
Emma stuck out her tongue playfully. She hadn’t meant to keep Amelia in the dark, but it was hard to talk about these things. After all, Damien Sterling was extraordinary.
"Alright, ladies, dig in before the food gets cold!" Logan urged, continuously piling food into Amelia’s bowl, attending to her every need.
"Logan, I’m seeing you in a new light," Emma remarked, impressed.
"Well, taking care of my future wife is my duty," Logan replied shyly.
Hearing Logan’s words, Damien paused, a bite halfway to his mouth. He never expected Amelia Davidson could tame Logan Harrington into such a considerate partner.
Suddenly, Emma accidentally dropped her utensils and bent down to pick them up. What she saw stunned her—it was a scene reminiscent of what had once happened between her and Damien.
Logan Harrington was using his long legs to play footsie with Amelia under the table! And worse, Amelia was reciprocating now and then.
"Emma, what’s wrong?" Damien asked when Emma didn’t get up right away.
"Nothing, nothing!" Emma hastily straightened up, "Let’s continue eating!"
Damien, sensing something was off, bent down to check as well. He saw Logan and Amelia’s interaction under the table. Then he sat back up, noticing the sparks flying between them, as if the rest of the world had ceased to exist.
Damien Sterling gave Emma Hart a meaningful look, making her blush as she lowered her head to focus on her meal. Sensing the moment, Damien extended his foot to tease Emma under the table. The instant they made contact, Emma froze, her eyes wide with surprise, like a startled bunny.
Amused by her reaction, Damien deepened his playful gestures, finding her every response utterly adorable. Mrs. Harris, seated in the nearby living room with the children, occasionally glanced over at the dining table. She observed the group’s interactions with a knowing smile, silently appreciating the dynamics of the young people today.
After a sumptuous dinner, Amelia Davidson and Emma Hart played with the babies in the living room. Amelia, cradling Joshua, looked at him with pure affection, as if he were her own child.
"Emma, do you know? I’ve always envied you," Amelia suddenly confessed, her eyes soft with sincerity.
Emma, puzzled, furrowed her brows. Seeing Emma’s confusion, Amelia smiled and continued, "You have a wealthy and loving husband in Mr. Sterling, and such adorable twin boys. You don’t have to worry about household chores. It’s a blessed life."
Emma couldn’t help but wonder if Amelia’s agreement to marry Logan Harrington stemmed from this very envy. The thought lingered in her mind, but she felt too shy to voice it.
Meanwhile, in the yard, Damien and Logan were taking a walk.
"Bro, why are we out here walking in this cold weather?" Logan shivered, his breath visible in the frosty air.
"I wanted you to clear your head and think," Damien replied calmly.
"About what?" Logan asked, still puzzled.
"Your grandmother," Damien reminded him.
"Oh," Logan paused for a few seconds, then spoke...
