Chapter 310: The Visit
"Damien," Mr. Sterling Senior greeted with a broad smile as he looked at Damien Sterling. "It’s quite a surprise. I remember you often being away. Earlier, I went to your office, but your secretary said you were on leave today. So, I thought I’d drop by to see Emma and the kids, and maybe get lucky and find you here."
"Grandpa, please have a seat," Damien said, guiding Mr. Sterling Senior to the couch, with Emma Hart sitting close to the two children.
"It’s late, Grandpa. You didn’t come just to see us, did you? Is there something important you need to discuss?" Damien asked.
Mr. Sterling Senior was known for not making casual visits. Coming over this late wasn’t just to see the kids.
Mr. Sterling Senior motioned to the servants, who brought in two large boxes of imported nutritional supplements.
"These are gifts for Emma and the kids from someone who needs a favor from you, Damien," Mr. Sterling Senior explained.
"Oh? Who is it? Why didn’t he come himself?" Damien asked.
"He’s right outside. Come in!" Mr. Sterling Senior called out. A tall, well-built middle-aged man in a designer suit walked in.
"Damien! It’s been a while!" The man greeted from the doorway.
It was Kevin Garcia, Ryan Garcia’s father.
"Uncle? I mean, Mr. Garcia, it’s been a long time. Please, have a seat," Damien said, standing to welcome him.
"Emma, please take the kids upstairs with Mrs. Harris. We have some matters to discuss," Damien instructed Emma.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Emma took the children upstairs, although her curiosity got the better of her. She had Mrs. Harris watch the kids while she quietly listened from the staircase.
"Mr. Garcia, it has indeed been a long time. How have you been?" Damien asked politely.
"I’m good. You’ve done well for yourself—starting a family, building a life," Kevin Garcia responded, giving Damien a hearty pat on the shoulder.
"Mr. Garcia, what brings you here so late? Is there something urgent?" Damien inquired, though he had a good idea that it involved Ryan Garcia and Brianna Baker.
"It’s about your aunt," Kevin Garcia said, swirling the tea in his cup.
He continued, "I did many things that hurt her. I feel deeply remorseful. And now, she doesn’t have much time left. I want to make amends and be with her during her final days..."
Tears welled up in Kevin Garcia’s eyes as he spoke.
Kevin Garcia’s words were indeed touching, but Damien Sterling remained unmoved. Kevin Garcia was a cunning old fox who would use any trick for his own gain. It was due to her trust in him that Brianna Baker ended up in such a miserable state in her later years.
Damien quietly sipped his hot tea, his face expressionless.
Seeing Damien’s indifference, Kevin Garcia continued, "Damien, as long as you can tell me where Brianna is, I’ll transfer all the shares of the ’All-Star Project’ to you. I don’t ask you to say anything good about me to her. Just tell me where she is, and I’ll handle the rest."
"The All-Star Project?" Damien raised an eyebrow, momentarily taken aback.
Kevin Garcia nodded, "Yes."
It was the most valued project of the Garcia Group. That Kevin Garcia was willing to give it up for a woman was astonishing to Damien.
The room fell silent, time seeming to stand still.
After contemplating for several seconds, Damien looked up at Kevin Garcia and said, "Mr. Garcia, your offer is indeed tempting. However, my contact with Aunt Brianna is limited to occasional meetings at specific events and rare phone calls. I don’t know her exact whereabouts. Perhaps you could give me some time to look for her. It would make it easier for you to meet her."
"Alright, but make it quick. Thank you, Damien." Kevin Garcia understood that Damien was not one to be easily swayed. He could only proceed step by step.
With that, Kevin Garcia and Mr. Sterling Senior stood up, ready to leave. Damien escorted them to the door, reminding the driver to be extra careful.
Sitting on the staircase, Emma Hart was deep in thought. She had heard Damien say before that Kevin Garcia was a terrible person. Why had he suddenly had a change of heart and come looking for Brianna Baker? And why did Mr. Sterling Senior come with him?
Lost in her thoughts, Emma didn’t notice her shadow being cast over.
"What are you doing here?" a familiar, gentle voice came from behind her.
"Ah!" Emma jumped, startled by Damien.
Damien chuckled helplessly and pulled Emma up from the floor, "Look at that! I’ve caught a little eavesdropper!"
He teased her with a playful smile.
"I... I...," Emma stammered, caught red-handed with no excuse.
"I was just..." Emma tried to explain but couldn’t find a reason. "Alright, I was eavesdropping."
Damien Sterling affectionately patted Emma Hart on the head. "Come on, let’s go to bed." He then scooped her and gently took her to the bedroom.
Meanwhile, at Green Mountain Retreat, Harper Clark was tossing and turning in her guest room, unable to sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she couldn’t stop thinking about the intimate moment she had shared with Ryan Garcia in the backyard.
"Actually... that guy is pretty handsome..." Harper muttered to herself, hugging her pillow.
"Thanks!" a voice suddenly interrupted.
"Who’s there?" Harper quickly sat up.
"It’s me!" It was Ryan Garcia’s voice. The bamboo window beside her bed creaked open from the outside, revealing Ryan’s bright, mischievous face.
"Ryan Garcia? What are you doing here? Are you spying on me?" Harper threw her pillow at him with force.
"Whoa! Easy, tiger!" Ryan laughed, blocking the pillow. He leaned closer and asked, "Did you just compliment me?"
Harper rolled her eyes at him. "In your dreams!"
Ryan flashed a devilish grin. "Hey, come here. I’ve got something to tell you that you’ll love."
"What is it?" Harper demanded.
"Come closer and I’ll tell you," Ryan teased.
Harper hesitated, torn between irritation and curiosity, but eventually scooted closer to the window. "Spill it!" she ordered.
"Here it is..." Ryan suddenly made a goofy face, causing Harper to scream in surprise.
"Ryan Garcia!" Harper shouted, leaping out of bed to chase after him.
"Aah! Stop fighting! I’m sorry!" Ryan called back, dodging her punches, laughing internally at the wildcat-like fury of Harper. Despite her best efforts, her hits were nothing more than playful taps to him.
