Chapter 308: Harper Clark Takes Action

Joshua certainly enjoyed giving Damien Sterling a hard time. Just as Damien was about to change his diaper, Joshua kicked his little legs, one of them landing right on Damien’s nose. The unexpected attack made Emma Hart, Mrs. Harris, and the assistant, who were all watching, chuckle quietly to themselves. Emma thought, "This kid takes after his mother! He’s going to be quite the troublemaker when he grows up."

"Alright, Mr. Sterling, let me hold his legs for you," Emma said, stepping in to help Damien. With Emma’s assistance, Joshua had no choice but to stay still. Damien, with his awkward hands, managed to change the diaper.

"Yes, just like that, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling, well done," praised Mrs. Harris.

"Thank you, Mrs. Harris!" Emma responded politely.

Damien, too, felt a sense of accomplishment.

"Mrs. Harris, can you tell us how to prepare the baby formula next?" Emma asked.

"Of course," Mrs. Harris replied.

...

Meanwhile, Harper Clark, following Sophia Greenwood’s suggestion, called Ryan Garcia to meet. They met at a café near the hospital, a cozy spot favored by the younger crowd for its artistic vibe and dim lighting.

"Didn’t expect you to ask me out, Miss Clark? Weren’t you trying to get rid of me?" Ryan Garcia spread his arms on the sofa, crossing his legs.

Harper sipped her chilled juice, scrutinizing Ryan. His street-style outfit, casual posture, and occasionally flirty demeanor were precisely why Harper couldn’t stand him. He might be a heartthrob for teenage girls, but he wasn’t her type. She was drawn to elegant gentlemen like Damien Sterling. Despite the possibility that Ryan could be the future heir to the Garcia Group, she had no interest in being with someone as immature as him.

Remembering her task, Harper reined in her disdainful thoughts. She set down her juice and asked politely, "How’s Aunt doing?"

"She’s fine, thanks, no need for you to worry," Ryan replied briskly, his suspicion evident. He couldn’t fathom what trick Harper was planning this time. Such a shame, he thought, that someone so beautiful had such a calculating nature, and to top it off, she was infatuated with his brother!

"Ryan, the reason I asked you here today is because..." Harper Clark began, her voice faltering as she stared at the half-full glass of juice in front of her.

"I...I wanted to apologize. I’m sorry for letting you and Aunt down," she said, her voice trembling.

Ryan Garcia was utterly confused. "Did you...take the wrong medicine or something?"

This beauty queen was acting completely out of character. Harper’s subtle peach blossom makeup, combined with the soft lighting and the English ballad playing in the background, made her look particularly enchanting. Her nose started to turn red, and she bit her rosy lower lip with her white teeth, making Ryan’s heart skip a beat.

"I know I’ve done a lot of wrong things...I’m sorry for hurting Emma and you all," Harper choked out, tears welling up in her large, watery eyes.

"After the last party, I realized how wrong I was. I hope you can forgive me," she pleaded.

"That night, you left in Sophia Greenwood’s car," Ryan remarked, watching Harper closely.

"I..." Harper quickly composed a response in her mind. "Ms. Greenwood is my boss. She’s been mentoring me since I joined Sterling Group. That day, my car broke down, so she gave me a ride home," Harper explained.

"Really? How convenient," Ryan replied sarcastically. "You really don’t know anything about Sophia Greenwood?"

"I...I only know that Ms. Greenwood was transferred to the Country A branch for training and that she and Mr. Sterling have been friends since childhood," Harper continued.

"It better be like that," Ryan said, taking a sip of his lemon water.

"Ryan, do you like me?" Harper abruptly asked, causing Ryan to nearly choke.

"What did you just say?" Ryan looked at Harper in bewilderment.

"I like you," Harper confessed.

"Do you even know what you’re saying?" Ryan tapped his forehead, wondering if she had lost her mind.

"Can you give me a chance?" Harper asked, her face flushing with embarrassment.

Ryan calmly took another sip of water. "You know, what you did before really pissed me off. Now you want me to be your backup?"

"Please, give me a chance! Let’s try!" Harper suddenly stood up, walked over to Ryan, grabbed his collar, and kissed him.

Ryan’s mind went blank. He stared in shock, only able to see Harper’s flushed, burning face and her long, curved eyelashes. His heart was racing, and his brain felt like it was on fire.

Ryan Garcia suddenly pushed Harper Clark’s forehead with his hand, stopping her kiss. This girl, young as she was, was certainly not to be underestimated—switching from a demure lady to a passionate vixen in an instant. Harper’s face turned bright red as she stared at Ryan, bewildered and unsure of what he might say next.

"That’s not going to work on me," Ryan said with a smirk.

"You don’t have feelings for me?" Harper asked.

"I do, but I’m not going to be with you," Ryan replied mischievously.

"Ryan Garcia!" Harper stomped her high heel in frustration, drawing curious glances from passersby. Embarrassed, she looked around, her face growing even redder. This was utterly humiliating.

"Don’t underestimate me, Harper Clark! I will make you fall for me, hopelessly and completely!" Harper declared, storming out of the café in a huff.

Ryan remained seated, his eyes gleaming with amusement. This was getting more interesting by the minute. He thought to himself, Why didn’t I take more advantage of that situation? Feeling disappointed in himself, he gave his cheek a light slap for not fully embracing his playboy nature.

As Harper stormed away, she muttered to herself, "Ryan Garcia, you just wait and see!" She immediately switched into a wild shopping spree, followed by a high-speed drive straight to the beach.

To win over a man, the best strategy is to first win over his family and those closest to him. "Ryan Garcia, you will be mine!" Harper’s confidence surged. Capturing Ryan Garcia’s heart seemed even more thrilling than pursuing Damien Sterling.

Meanwhile, back in the café, Ryan Garcia sneezed repeatedly. "Boss, is your AC set to freezing or what?" he called out, wondering why he couldn’t stop sneezing.
