Chapter 259: Change the Doctor!

With a tumult of emotions raging inside her, Emma Hart glanced disdainfully at Damien Sterling and moved to the examination area. The doctors, ever cautious in Damien’s presence, maintained a servile smile, anxious to provide Emma with a feeling of utmost welcome.

As Emma lay on the examination bed, the male doctor began preparing the instruments for her check-up. Damien, who had been quietly observing, suddenly darkened in expression, his face grim as he watched the doctor’s skilled movements. His voice was a low growl as he fixed his intense gaze on the male doctor, "Are you the one conducting her examination?"

"Yes, Mr. Sterling, it’s always been me. I am Miss Emma’s primary physician."

"Always?" Damien’s mood soured further upon hearing this, his face growing stormier as if a tempest was brewing. Abruptly, he commanded in a cold, authoritative tone, "Stop right there! Change the doctor immediately!"

The male doctor, startled, stood up quickly, "Mr.... Sterling, sir..." He knew of Mr. Sterling’s unpredictable moods and quick temper, but he hadn’t anticipated such a sudden and drastic reaction, and he still couldn’t fathom what he had done wrong.

A nurse, catching on quickly since it was common for some women to prefer not being examined by a male doctor, whispered to the male doctor. He then realized Damien’s concern was likely about the gender of the doctor. Hurrying out, he called for a female doctor to take over.

The atmosphere in the examination room grew tense, everyone’s eyes on Damien’s chilling demeanor. The charm he usually exuded seemed to shatter in that moment, dispelling any illusions of him being a gentle man.

Frightened by the change, the staff quickly exited the room, "Mr. Sterling, please call us if you need anything."

The nurses hurried out, leaving only Damien and Emma in the examination room. Damien approached Emma, his presence overwhelming and cold, his face expressionless yet carrying a piercing chill.

Emma Hart bit her lip gently, her face paling under the oppressive aura exuded by Damien Sterling. What was he planning with such a frightening expression?

"Has it always been this male doctor who conducted your examinations?" Damien asked, his face growing even more terrifying, his brows knitting together tightly.

What was wrong with him? It seemed like he was on fire. Couldn’t he see this was an outdated way of thinking? Were we still in the era where men and women could not have professional interactions? After all, a doctor’s job transcends gender. Was he really such an old-fashioned relic?

"Yes," Emma replied nonchalantly, not seeing anything amiss.

Damien moved closer, causing Emma to instinctively back away. Her small frame leaned back against the examination table as Damien’s body loomed over her. Just as Emma was about to push him away, he placed his hands beside her head, their cheeks almost touching. Damien’s heavy breathing and his piercing gaze fixed on her; he showed no signs of backing away. Instead, he looked her up and down, finally focusing on her clear, lively eyes that now held a trace of fear. "It seems you really like having him examine you?"

Like it? Which of his eyes saw that? What madness was Damien spouting now?

"I do not!" Emma retorted fiercely, defending herself. She wouldn’t let him demean her so casually. What kind of woman did he think she was?

He’s just a doctor!

"No?" As Emma shook her arms in protest, Damien pressed down on them more forcefully. "Given how eagerly you were undressing just now, you claim there’s nothing to it?"

Undressing? What was he even talking about? Emma’s eyes widened in disbelief at Damien’s rampant imagination. Did he always excel in storytelling in school, to be able to fabricate such tales?

Emma Hart looked incredulously at the man in front of her, her eyebrows furrowed. Did he really just say that? Wasn’t it normal for her to undress for a medical exam? She was just being cooperative, wasn’t she? Why was he stretching it so far?

"Can you please not slander me?" she implored.

"Slander you? How?" Damien Sterling persisted relentlessly.

"If you keep this up, I’ll call for help!" Emma snapped back angrily. This was worse than brutal interrogation—what was he trying to achieve? Did he expect her to happily tell him, "Yes, Mr. President, I was indeed undressing eagerly, hoping for a male doctor to examine me"?

Would that make him feel better? Emma, oh Emma, how did you find yourself dealing with such an absurd man? Besides his good looks and wealth, did he have any other redeeming qualities?

Emma turned her gaze away from Damien, but he forcefully turned her face back towards him, demanding, "Answer me!"

What was he expecting her to say? Emma truly didn’t know.

What was he jealous of? By his logic, should all men who ever interacted with Emma be doomed?

Feeling helpless but unable to think of a way to deal with him, Emma reluctantly used her pregnancy as a shield, "Mr. Sterling, you’re making my stomach uncomfortable!"

Someone knocked on the door from outside. "Mr. Sterling, the new doctor is here. May we come in?"

Only then did Damien move off of Emma, who slowly sat up from the examination table.

The female doctor entered, followed by a nurse. Just as she was about to greet them, the oppressive atmosphere caused by Damien’s grim demeanor silenced her.

She approached cautiously, noticing the disheveled state of Emma rising from the bed, her clothes untidy. Damien’s suit also showed signs of disturbance. Her gaze swept over the two, puzzled by what might have transpired just before she entered.

Damien’s voice cut through the silence, chillingly, "Fire that male doctor from earlier!"

The room filled with confused glances towards Damien. Nothing that severe had happened, had it? Why the dismissal?

Emma’s eyes widened in shock as she stared at Damien. Just because the doctor had examined her and it displeased Damien, he was fired?

A wave of guilt washed over Emma, feeling partly responsible for the doctor’s dismissal.
