Chapter 251: Don’t You Dislike Privileges?

Emma Hart trailed behind Damien Sterling, her mind a whirl of unease. Rumors about her had spread through the company today, and tomorrow, Mr. Lee from the partnering firm would make the final decision. But what they all wanted was merely a result—the rightful owner of the design draft.

Emma wanted to speak up, but she hesitated, unsure of how to begin. She made several attempts to approach him but ultimately stopped each time.

She wished she could be one of those women accustomed to demanding things from men, those who comfortably accepted care and could make any requests without hesitation.

However, Emma Hart was different. People had told her about Damien’s generosity towards women—how he was always ready to fulfill their desires, especially those he cherished. But did he cherish her? If so, making a request shouldn’t be too much.

Suddenly, Damien stopped walking. Lost in her thoughts, Emma nearly stumbled over his heels.

Turning around with a piercing gaze, Damien looked down at Emma. "What is it? You have something to say?"

Emma avoided his intense eyes, which seemed to see right through her. Despite knowing her so well, she shook her head vigorously. "No, nothing."

Damien scrutinized her, his expression one of disappointment at her poor attempt to lie. "If that’s the case, then let’s leave it unsaid."

With a resolute turn, he continued walking, his face stoic and unyielding.

"Wait, wait, wait," Emma called out from behind him, hurrying to catch up. She quickened her pace, almost unable to keep up with Damien’s strides. She ran ahead and blocked his path, looking up at him. "Stop! I need to speak!"

Damien paused, casually adjusting his cufflinks as he gazed down at her, his voice low and detached. "What is it now? Speak."

The air around them seemed to solidify as Emma Hart struggled to find her words. With a cold glance, Damien Sterling snapped, "Don’t waste time!"

"Alright, alright, I’ll say it!" Emma Hart retorted with a roll of her eyes and spoke in a low voice, "Could you check your security cameras? I’ve run into a bit of trouble at the office."

"Cameras?" Damien raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Yes, the ones you use to keep an eye on me!" Emma blurted out, then seeing Damien’s stern gaze, she cleared her throat and averted her gaze, "Um, I mean, the video surveillance you have on me."

"And then?" he prompted.

"The office cameras were deliberately tampered with, so I need to access your surveillance. No one would dare delete footage from your system, so you’re my only chance to clear my name now."

Damien’s deepeyes fixed on Emma, her request sounding far too casual for his liking.

Emma met his probing gaze, his eyes complex and intense. "Don’t worry, I won’t say the footage is from you," she added, sensing his reluctance to share the video, which would essentially reveal that Damien Sterling had indeed installed cameras for spying. What then? What does that say about their relationship, that Damien felt the need to monitor her so closely?

But Emma had already figured out how to mask the truth.

The longer Damien looked at her, the less likely Emma felt he would agree.

After a long moment, Damien stared at her with a mocking smile, sending a chill down her spine. His lips parted slightly, not with good news.

"Don’t you dislike special treatment?" Damien’s voice carried a mocking tone. In his view, letting her struggle wasn’t unacceptable—it wasn’t a trial he orchestrated; it was something she should handle as a normal employee of the company.

"I do dislike it... but..." Emma suddenly felt as if she ran out of excuses. Hadn’t she always hated operating under Damien’s protection? Now, why was she seeking his support?

"Then you handle it yourself," Damien concluded with a slight smirk, his laugh cold, then turned and walked towards the stairs.

Emma Hart had never imagined that one day she would be scoffed at by Damien Sterling for seeking "privileges," especially since she had always firmly rejected any special treatment from him.

It seemed Damien had every reason to say what he did, and upon reflection, Emma realized he might be right.

Below, Emma wrestled with her thoughts, trying to muster the courage to confront Damien upstairs, yet she couldn’t find a valid reason to defend her stance.

Then it hit her—her child! Today at the office, everyone was whispering about her child, a mess surely stirred by Damien’s doings. Had it not been for him, would she ever be branded a "troublemaker" by her colleagues?

Determined, Emma knocked and entered Damien’s office. As she approached him, she glimpsed something on his computer—a man’s profile picture...

Her hand trembled, spilling coffee across the desk. Frantically reaching for a tissue, her eyes caught a clearer view of the bald man on the screen—undeniably, the despicable man she’d never forget in her life!

Captivated by the image on the computer, Emma was barely aware of Damien taking the tissue from her to cover the desk, as he called out, "Go fetch Mrs. Harris."

Startled, Emma straightened up, pointing at the computer screen, "Why do you have his picture?"

The man was the owner of a modest private company, a middle-aged, scrawny man with a sleazy demeanor and a balding head—hardly someone who would have dealings with Damien Sterling.

Damien casually tapped the screen, shutting the page, and remarked indifferently, "Just looking at something."

"You’re investigating me?" Emma confronted him with a cold stare. A sense of betrayal crept over her, the origins of which she couldn’t pinpoint, but it echoed the derision she faced from her colleagues earlier that day.

"Just browsing? So, you still doubt me?" Emma Hart’s gaze was empty as she looked towards Damien Sterling. Hadn’t everything around them already said enough? If he truly trusted her, would he still be here searching through these things? Naturally, he wouldn’t. Knowing the answer all too well, why did Emma even bother to ask Damien?

Damien Sterling silently lifted his head to meet Emma’s eyes. "Just a casual look," he replied.
