Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 237: What Else Is There Besides the Baby in Her Belly?

Chapter 237: What Else Is There Besides the Baby in Her Belly?

Emma Hart laughed softly, pulling Amelia Davidson’s arm as they walked naturally and intimately towards the design department. "Oh, please, I’m just trying to help her out since she’s new. It’s not about feeling any special kinship. But what about you? It’s been ages since you’ve been here!"

"I’ve been busy making big bucks, of course," Amelia Davidson replied proudly, never shy about her love for money. She seemed to believe that having enough money was the only security she needed, and nothing else mattered.

"It’s always about the money with you," Emma teased, pretending to be upset. "You don’t even come to hang out anymore."

Amelia poked Emma’s puffed cheek, "You know, at this design department, it’s really just you I miss. By the way, I heard you were sick last time I visited. What happened?"

Amelia’s face was full of concern. Emma had been harassed back and forth by that man and hadn’t been able to come to work properly, something Amelia didn’t know about.

"It’s nothing, just a minor ailment."

Amelia looked at her worriedly, her suspicion evident. "Don’t lie to me. You, a workaholic, wouldn’t just rest over a small sickness. If you need money, just tell me. I might not be able to help you with anything else, but I can definitely help with that."

"Okay, got it, my dear sister," Emma moved closer to Amelia, her voice warm. Even if one day she truly needed someone’s help, Amelia might not be able to assist her with big issues, like the enormous debt she owed Damien Sterling that nobody could repay. But having Amelia’s supportive words still warmed her heart.

"By the way, there’s a new project coming up that both the AB teams are working on. You really need to give it your all this time," Amelia said earnestly.

Hearing Amelia mention the project, Emma loosened her grip on Amelia’s hand, a wave of guilt washing over her. The last mishap had been because of Emma, or rather, because of Damien Sterling’s interference, which had caused Amelia to miss her deadline. And still, Amelia was thinking of her.

"What’s wrong?" Seeing that Emma hadn’t responded and had loosened her grip, Amelia asked.

"I... maybe you shouldn’t give me this project."

"If not to you, then to whom? ’Don’t let the water flow into others’ fields’, haven’t you heard that? You’re my sister; who else would I give it to?"

"But I messed up your last project," Emma said, sadness overwhelming her, uncertain of the impact her failure had on Amelia and how she could possibly make it up to her.

Seeing Emma Hart’s head hung low with sadness, Amelia Davidson was reminded of their last encounter. She took Emma’s hand, comforting her, "My silly sister, that’s all in the past. Do you think I’ve been out here all this time without gaining any clout? I know the CEO, and it’s no big deal. Plus, I’ve seen your latest designs; they’re far superior to what they’ve come up with. This just shows you’ve got the talent."

Amelia’s reassurances eased Emma’s spirit a bit. Emma looked up at Amelia, searching her face to make sure she wasn’t being deceived. "Really?"

"Yes, really."

A spark lit up in Emma’s eyes. She turned and hurriedly left Amelia, heading back to her desk to dive into the design requirements Amelia had sent over. She casually grabbed the company-issued radiation suit from the side.

Meanwhile, Zoe came over with a glass of water for Amelia, who paused, surprised. Zoe glanced apologetically at Emma, and Amelia turned to say, "Thank you."

Zoe pushed her glasses up her nose, "You’re welcome."

After Zoe walked away, Amelia couldn’t help but chuckle. "Look at you, building your own empire."

"What empire?" Emma watched Zoe’s departing figure, feeling both lonely and empowered.

Probably every newcomer feels this loneliness, just like she did once. But just a bit of warmth from someone can fill one with immense strength, just like how Amelia had warmed her heart, and now she did the same for Zoe.

A smile unconsciously crept across Emma’s lips.

Behind her, Amelia touched the radiation suit Emma was wearing, puzzled, "What in the world is this?"

"It’s a radiation suit," Emma answered nonchalantly.

"Isn’t that for pregnant women? Are you...?" Amelia’s expression turned to one of shock.

"No, it’s not like that!" Emma quickly explained, pointing to her colleagues, "It’s a company perk, everyone gets one!"

As she spoke, Emma instinctively pulled in her stomach, but it was getting noticeably larger, and she couldn’t always wear such baggy clothes at work. Despite the warmth in the office, she still wore her trench coat over her work clothes, fearing the day when her pregnancy would become obvious to anyone, even though some of her colleagues were already beginning to suspect.

Sophia Greenwood stepped out of her office and immediately noticed Emma Hart chatting happily with someone. Unlike others, Sophia was aware of Emma’s pregnancy.

"Emma Hart, come here and take these files to the conference room," Sophia commanded with a disdainful glance at Emma. Such tasks were not typically Emma’s responsibility, but Sophia delighted in making things difficult for her.

Amelia Davidson tugged at Emma’s arm, about to step forward, "Is she giving you trouble again?"

Amelia’s stance was defiant, ready to confront Sophia, "Others might fear her, but I don’t, and I won’t let her bully you like this."

"It’s okay, really, I can handle it," Emma responded, always preferring to endure rather than confront. Carrying a few files was a small matter to her.

Emma picked up the stack of files and walked towards the conference room. No sooner had she placed them down than Sophia, clicking along in her high heels, followed. "Oh, I forgot, these aren’t supposed to go here. Take them to the storage room instead."

Turning around, Emma saw Sophia’s smirk under her fiery red lipstick—a true femme fatale clearly enjoying her manipulative game.

Biting back her frustration, Emma picked up the files and headed out, dropping a sarcastic remark, "I just hope that once I get these to the storage room, Ms. Greenwood won’t tell me they were supposed to be in the conference room after all."

Sophia scoffed coldly, giving Emma a scornful look. She couldn’t fathom what Damien Sterling saw in Emma. If there was one thing Sophia felt she couldn’t compete with, it was the child Emma was carrying. Beyond that, Sophia couldn’t think of anything Emma had over her.
