Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 206: A Woman’s Battle

Chapter 206: A Woman’s Battle

Emma Hart swiftly scrolled through her screen, quickly becoming disinterested as the same few photos and a myriad of speculations filled her view. Anticipating the inevitable gossip at the company’s entrance, she pocketed her phone. As expected, upon descending from her car, she encountered a few female colleagues who immediately started gossiping about Nina Waters, which was no surprise to Emma.

Heading straight upstairs, Emma noticed Nina Waters had arrived early. Approaching Nina, who appeared as arrogant as ever, Emma found this demeanor somewhat unexpected. After all, Emma had played a significant role in the recent headlines featuring Nina. An assistant, seemingly more aware of the dynamics, whispered to Nina, suggesting she ought to thank Emma. Emma, however, dismissed it with a wave of her hand.

Nina, ignoring her assistant, walked up to Emma, her high heels elevating her stature, "How could Mr. Sterling be involved?"

Emma was momentarily taken aback. Damien Sterling? His unexpected appearance puzzled her too. Emma then pondered whether Damien had actually come to her aid or Nina’s, which seemed indifferent to Nina.

"Are you intentionally getting close to Damien Sterling?" Nina’s voice rose sharply, her gaze on Emma far from friendly. From the start, Nina suspected their relationship was unusual, trusting her intuition that a man like Damien Sterling wouldn’t easily be attracted to someone like Emma unless she had pursued him.

Nina believed such women should be eliminated one by one, paving the way for her future.

Snapping back from her thoughts, Emma faced Nina’s jealous glare. Emma, however, was not one to boast about such personal victories, like how the man Nina admired had held her tight the previous night. If Emma were to flaunt such incidents, many women, like Sofia Greenwood or Nina Waters herself, would be infuriated.

Emma Hart lifted the corners of her mouth, saying, "Miss Nina Waters, because you had me impersonate you, Mr. Sterling must have thought you were trapped among the reporters, which is why he stepped in to help."

Nina Waters was taken aback by Emma Hart’s words, realizing she had been blinded by jealousy and overlooked this crucial detail. Indeed, was it not she whom Damian Sterling had saved yesterday?

A stiff smile appeared on Nina Waters’ face, leaving Emma Hart wondering whether it was Nina’s intelligence in question or the unnaturalness of her smile due to excessive facial fillers, lending her a somewhat foolish appearance.

"Is that so?" Nina Waters glanced between Emma Hart and her assistant, puzzled.

Emma Hart looked at Nina Waters’ assistant, the blonde-haired, red-eyed assistant who was doting on Nina, reassuring her, "Of course, Miss Nina Waters. Mr. Sterling likes you so much, you should be able to see it yourself."

However, Nina Waters did not feel that Damian Sterling had any affection for her. In the office, Damian barely acknowledged her presence, but she kept this to herself to avoid embarrassment, rather than admitting to spending so much time in Damian’s office with nothing to show for it.

"Yes, Miss Nina Waters," Emma Hart nodded, empathizing with Nina’s disillusionment. Nina Waters, as usual, ordered Emma Hart around, thinking it did not matter much as there were only a few days left, while Emma silently complied with her requests.

Emerging from the break room with a new glass of lemonade – after Nina had complained the previous one was too sour and the next too sweet with added honey – Emma Hart still managed a smile. This was her third attempt, but she increasingly felt suited to the service industry.

Upon reaching the doorway, Emma saw Sophia Greenwood entering from the elevator, holding an invitation. Sophia Greenwood, spotting Nina Waters, straightened up, quickly checked her reflection in the elevator mirror, and smoothed a stray lock of hair aside with her hand.

As Sophia stepped out of the elevator, the tension between her and Nina Waters was palpable, as if Nina suddenly bristled with hostility. Emma Hart retreated to the break room, sensing an imminent clash between the two and deciding it was best to stay clear.

Observing Damian Sterling in the room, Emma sympathetically anticipated the ordeal he was about to face, her mouth twisted in a sympathetic grimace as she braced for the imminent showdown between the two women.

The secretary stopped Sophia Greenwood in her tracks, still wearing a smile, for after all, Sophia Greenwood was the head designer here, and naturally, even a mere secretary treated her with great respect. "Miss Greenwood, Mr. Sterling is in a meeting."

Nina Waters glanced at Sophia Greenwood and said in a coquettish tone, "If Mr. Sterling weren’t in a meeting, I could have had a bit more intimate time with him."

From a distance, Emma Hart watched the scene unfold like a spectator at a fight, sipping water she had intended for Nina Waters. It would have pleased Nina, but at that moment, Emma only wanted to observe the clash between the two women. It seemed to her that Nina Waters, with her less sophisticated vocabulary, still managed to hold the upper hand, at least in terms of the word "intimate" – something Sophia Greenwood would never utter.

"This invitation is for Mr. Sterling; it’s from the old Mr. Sterling asking me to accompany him," Sophia Greenwood stated, elevating her stance. She had little regard for the women of the entertainment industry, finding them all to be rather frivolous, and thus, she felt it beneath her to engage with them, as if doing so would lower her own status.

Emma Hart, from behind a screen, nodded in approval at Sophia Greenwood’s demeanor. Indeed, Sophia stood tall, for nothing could be more prestigious than the Sterling family’s endorsement!

It was like saying no garden flower could ever match the grandeur of the main house’s authority!

Nina Waters, not pleased at this, stood up and snatched the invitation from Sophia. "What gala or red carpet haven’t I graced? Hand it over; I can accompany Mr. Sterling as well."

Sophia Greenwood didn’t attempt to take it back, which surprised Emma Hart. However, Nina’s confusion was apparent when she opened the white invitation.

Sophia Greenwood leaned in towards Nina Waters, "How about it? What kind of event is it, Miss Nina Waters?" The emphasis on Nina Waters’ name by Sophia Greenwood was deliberate, as everyone knew Nina Waters was her stage name.

The invitation letter is all in foreign languages, leaving Nina Waters utterly baffled, unable to understand a word.
