Chapter 203: Gaining Fame

Listening to the reporters, Emma Hart realized they genuinely mistook her for Nina Waters. This revelation prompted her to dive headfirst into Damien Sterling’s embrace, adopting a squeaky voice to tease him, "Mr. Sterling, you’re finally here, wuwu..."

Emma’s coquettish tone sent shivers down Damien’s spine, puzzled by the antics of the woman in front of him. "Mr. Sterling, Nina Waters is so scared," Emma voiced again, allowing Damien to grasp the mischievous woman’s intent.

Facing the reporters with a composed demeanor, Damien’s grip tightened, hinting at a punitive desire against the woman pretending to be Nina Waters. He was determined not to let her continue the charade.

Leaning down to whisper in Emma’s ear with a barely-there smile, Damien asked, "Do you want to become famous?"

Emma felt the deep malice emanating from Damien and buried her head further into his embrace, fearful of being exposed to the public next. Despite the allure of fame that many women, including Nina Waters, might crave, Emma wanted no part in it.

"I am Nina Waters, I am Nina Waters," Emma muttered within Damien’s embrace, criticizing his lack of business acumen silently. She wondered why he wouldn’t seize the opportunity to generate buzz for his new project with Nina Waters, failing to see the benefit such a rare chance could bring to his company from a mere employee like herself.

Did she really need to explain such basic logic to him?

"Say it again, who are you?" Damien’s lips barely touched the top of Emma’s head, his faint voice reaching her ears.

"I am..." Emma hesitated, unsure of Damien’s intentions. Did he want to reveal her identity to everyone? No, that couldn’t be it.

Yet, Damien’s hands on her did not cease, his firm grip signalling a decision made.

Their wedding had been conducted under bizarre circumstances, with few media outlets attending the ceremony, and her identity remained a mystery. That obscurity was preferable, but now, what was Damien Sterling planning?

Was he facing some inexplicable dilemma?

"Miss Nina Waters, could you please comment?" Emma Hart heard a nosy reporter nearby daring to shift the spotlight towards them.

Damien Sterling, enveloped in a chilling silence, let out a deep, cold chuckle above his head, "Didn’t you articulate your thoughts quite well just a moment ago?" It was a threat, a blatant one, exposing his despicable nature once again!

Emma’s grip tightened on Damien’s shirt, refusing to let go. Damien looked down at Emma, who had conceded defeat. Did she really think she could play him like that? "Miss Waters, a word, please?" His demeanor was reprehensible. Emma, burying her face in his chest, realized that admitting her mistake was the only way to escape the encroaching swarm of reporters. "I was wrong!"

A slight smile curled on Damien’s lips, feeling a sense of achievement that surpassed even securing a business opportunity. He leaned in closer to Emma, his voice low, "I didn’t catch that!" He was getting worse.

Emma’s hand instinctively twisted a piece of his shirt; of course, such an act had little effect on him. Damien remained unyielding, drawing a deep breath as if he was about to reveal something significant. This made Emma genuinely scared. Was she about to reveal her true identity?

In a panic, Emma slightly lifted her head, speaking weakly to Damien, "My head! It hurts so much!" Her body slumped backwards, and Damien’s arms, reacting to her feigned weakness, caught her. Emma felt his strong hands beneath her and couldn’t help but smirk with satisfaction.

What exactly she was pleased about, Emma couldn’t say. Perhaps it was because her tactic was once again foolproof. Even if Damien cared more about the child she carried than her, basking in the reflected glory wasn’t too bad.

Damien’s expression changed, and with a look, he signaled his assistant, who immediately stepped forward to block the reporters. Damien, holding Emma, made their escape, ensuring her true demeanor remained hidden from the crowd.

Emma Hart finally takes off her glasses once she’s in the car, gasping for air and panting, "That scared me to death!"

Turning her head, she catches Damien Sterling examining her with a scrutinizing gaze. Emma hurriedly tones down her lively demeanor, remembering she had complained of a headache. ’What does a headache even look like?’ she wonders.

Touching her head, she then looks innocently at Damien, exaggerating, "It hurts! It really hurts..."

Damien moves closer, startling Emma, who glances at the driver before scooting away, "What are you doing?"

Her wary reaction is almost as if she’s just been violated.

Damien rolls his eyes at her. Ever since finding out she was pregnant, he’s kept a respectful distance, making her exaggerated reaction seem all the more dramatic. ’What horrendous thing must I have done to make her instinctively dodge me like this?’

"Let’s go to the hospital!"

The moment Damien suggests it, Emma feels an urge to vomit, repulsed by the mere thought of the hospital’s strong disinfectant smell. "No, don’t go there!"

"So, you’re saying you’re fine now?" Damien gives her a side glance, already too familiar with her little tricks.

Emma nods, admitting defeat once again.

"You owe me one. How do you plan to repay?" Damien probes.

"What?" Emma looks puzzled. What did she do this time?

Damien remains silent, his gaze deepening as he watches her, his memory seemingly too short for her liking.

Recalling the recent events, Emma pouts, "That was your choice. Revealing my identity would have caused you trouble too. By appearing with Nina Waters, it benefits the company while making headlines. I was helping you, no need for thanks."

"Say thanks?" Damien’s fingers interlace slowly as he refocuses on Emma’s face, appreciating her increasingly sharp wit and logical thinking. It seems her time by his side hasn’t been wasted.

"Turn around!" he instructs the driver indifferently.

"Why turn around?" Emma, still rattled, stares wide-eyed at Damien.

"Headlines!"

Emma leans forward to the driver, "Don’t turn around!"

But then she realizes, the driver isn’t in charge.

Biting her lip, she turns back to tug at Damien, "Don’t turn the car around!"

Damien glances at Emma, a swift smile crossing his face but unable to hide the amusement inside.

Seeing Damien’s silence, the driver understands and keeps driving straight, maintaining the car’s harmony.

The car smoothly continues forward.
