Chapter 20: Humiliation
Emerging from the bridal boutique, Emma Hart wandered aimlessly down the bustling street, her thoughts a whirl.
Abruptly, her phone rang, disrupting her reverie.
Casting a look of distaste at the caller ID, she swiftly rejected the call, her gaze drifting towards the ceaseless stream of people nearby.
But the man was persistent. Call after call invaded her phone until, exasperated, Emma finally answered. "What do you want?" she demanded icily.
"Come to the villa now," came the blunt order.
What? Did this man expect her obedience on a whim? "I’m not feeling well," Emma retorted firmly.
A chilling voice responded, "If I don’t see you in 20 minutes, I’ll revoke your brother’s acceptance to University of London."
"Despicable!" Emma hissed into the phone, her voice thick with rage, drawing curious glances from passersby.
Meanwhile, in a sleek black Audi, Damien Sterling casually tossed his phone aside.
His handsome, eastern features were shadowed with a charismatic allure.
Weary, he leaned his head back, closing his eyes.
With slightly parted lips, he murmured, "Back to the villa."
"Understood," the driver said cautiously, executing a careful U-turn.
Just moments earlier, Damien had planned to visit another bar, but his plans had abruptly changed.
Outside the villa complex, Emma stepped out of her car, offering a polite "Thank you" to the driver.
The neat rows of street lamps illuminated the night, casting a glow on her slender figure.
Emma checked her watch – thankfully, it had only taken 15 minutes.
"Well, well, who do we have here?" A sharp, mocking voice called from afar.
Turning, Emma’s heart sank at the sight of the last two people she wanted to encounter – Ethan Turner and Natalie Black.
Natalie, arm entwined with Ethan’s, approached Emma with a triumphant air.
Dressed in a flowing white dress and vibrant lipstick, it was clear she had taken great care with her appearance.
As Emma’s gaze met Ethan’s, she noticed his eyes flicker away, a hint of something unspoken. What he was thinking, Emma couldn’t tell, nor did it matter to her anymore.
Natalie Black glanced at the villas nearby before fixing her gaze on Emma Hart, her eyes gleaming with contempt. She let out a derisive laugh, her voice dripping with scorn.
"It seems some people are inherently cheap. What’s the going rate for a night with you now?" Natalie sneered.
Emma, hearing these vile words, turned away, refusing to engage with such a despicable person. She just wanted to leave as quickly as possible.
Natalie, emboldened by Emma’s silence, grew more arrogant, her words increasingly venomous. "Ah, Ethan Turner must have been blind to fancy a woman like you – pure on the outside, but a liar at heart, deceiving his feelings. You’re nothing but a whore, a slut!"
Each word was a dagger to Emma’s heart. She felt her blood run cold, a suffocating pain enveloping her as tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
"Enough!" Emma couldn’t hold back anymore. Tears brimmed in her eyes, and her hands shook as they clutched the straps of her backpack – the only support she felt she had in that moment.
Natalie, surprised by Emma’s outburst, let go of Ethan’s arm and took a step towards her, her presence dominating.
"What? Did I say something wrong? You’re just a cheap woman! A slut!" Natalie hurled these filthy insults at Emma with renewed
