Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 198: Where Did I Go Wrong?

Chapter 198: Where Did I Go Wrong?

In front of Emma Hart, there was only Nina Waters, who she had just drenched in water, completely forgetting whose lap she was sitting on at the moment.

A familiar deep voice reached her ears, "Aren’t you going to get up?" Like sitting on hot coals, Emma Hart sprang up from Damian Sterling’s lap!

Immediately, Nina Waters’ assistant rushed to offer her a tissue, but Nina, unable to open her eyes due to the stinging sensation of the water, felt utterly humiliated in front of Damian. It was as if she harbored murderous intent towards Emma Hart.

"Wipe it off for me, quickly!" Nina Waters demanded, throwing the tissue offered by her assistant to the floor, raising her hands in frustration and shouting for help. The assistant, treading carefully, began to dab at Nina’s face, clearly resentful but silent—after all, they depended on Nina for their livelihood.

Nina’s temper and diva antics were well-known, though she had not displayed them in front of Damian Sterling.

After all, no amount of diva behavior mattered in front of Damian Sterling.

"You’re hurting me!" Nina shrieked. Even with her eyes shut, she could faintly make out Emma Hart nearby. Pointing a finger at Emma, Nina threatened, "You wait, I’ll make you pay for this!" Damian Sterling, overhearing this, looked coldly at Nina.

Nina shivered under Damian’s inexplicable gaze. Though Damian’s expression was typically unreadable, his occasional smirks, combined with his devilishly handsome features, usually offset his otherwise stoic demeanor.

However, that moment of piercing gaze carried an unmistakable authority, leaving Nina feeling uneasy. Why would such a look follow her threat against a mere waitress? Could she possibly have any significant connection to Damian Sterling?

Nina lowered her head, quieted by that single look, wondering if her behavior had been too inappropriate. Could it be that Damian didn’t approve, displeased by her actions?

Clenching her fists, Nina resolved to confront Emma later, but for now, she aimed to leave a good impression on Damian. With this in mind, she swallowed her pride.

On the other side, Emma Hart, fully aware of the trouble she had caused, hung her head low and stood aside. Especially after being pulled into Damian Sterling’s embrace, the memory of that awkward moment now seemed to carry an intense aroma of embarrassment.

Standing there, her cheeks flushed with redness, Emma couldn’t believe how many times that man has had sex with her, and yet, she was still blushing, still feeling so utterly powerless. All the verbal sparring skills she had just a moment ago seemed to have deserted her completely, leaving her feeling incredibly timid.

Then, suddenly, Damian ordered Emma, "Leave!" Emma was startled, her gaze flickering towards Nina Waters. Nina had just mentioned settling scores with her, and now, being asked to leave, how was she supposed to confront her? Emma looked at Damian Sterling, puzzled, trying to confirm if he was indeed speaking to her.

"Leave!" It wasn’t until she saw the flicker of anger about to ignite in Damian’s eyes that she finally realized he was indeed addressing her.

Emma didn’t know much, but she was familiar with Damian Sterling’s angry demeanor towards her, almost as if angering him had inadvertently become one of her skills. As Emma left the room, she couldn’t resist glancing back at Nina Waters, who was still getting assistance from her assistant, as if afraid Nina might call her back.

Once outside, Emma closed the door and stood in the hallway, finally letting out a deep breath. She mused over her own ineptitude; she had caused trouble the moment she entered. However, the memory of Nina Waters soaked from their encounter made Emma burst into laughter. It was incredibly satisfying!

Who did she think she was, always trying to seduce her man? Wait, Emma suddenly leaned against the wall, straightening up unnaturally. What was she thinking? Seduce her man? Emma covered her mouth with her hand as if afraid her thoughts would escape and be discovered by others around her.

Emma tried to compose herself, reminding herself over and over that the man had nothing to do with her. Nothing at all, other than a debt to be repaid, a mere contractual relationship. That was all it was.

Just as Emma Hart was about to leave the corridor, her path was blocked by a wall, and, looking down, she spotted a pair of leather shoes that seemed oddly familiar. And there, on the surface of the shoe, was a footprint that remarkably resembled the pattern of a pair she had recently purchased.

Before she could even lift her head, panic set in. Wasn’t it time to run? But as she turned, someone grabbed her by the hoodie, pulling her up until her feet barely touched the ground, her neck constricted by the fabric.

In that moment, Emma regretted not being taller; if only she were over six feet, then the man would need to be exceptionally tall to lift her like this.

Reaching out, Emma felt for Damien Sterling’s hand, pleading, "Okay, okay, my fault, I know it! Let me down, please!"

Despite her pleas, Damien showed no intention of releasing her so easily, holding her aloft as if she were a small bird.

"Where did you go wrong?" he interrogated.

"I shouldn’t have interrupted your intimate moment!" Emma argued, even as she attempted to hit Damien.

Upon hearing her response, Damien’s grip tightened, and he lifted her higher.

"Say it again!" Damien commanded coldly.

Was that not it? "I... shouldn’t have splashed water on your precious Nina Waters!" Emma’s attempt to apologize lacked sincerity, still defiant in the face of Damien’s wrath.

Raised even higher, Emma feared she might slip out of her hoodie, revealing just her undergarments beneath—an absolutely unacceptable outcome!

"Put me down! Down!" Emma’s pleas were futile.

"And what else did you do wrong?"

What else? Emma couldn’t think of anything. Then, seeing the footprint on Damien’s shoe, it clicked. "I... shouldn’t have stepped on you! Ahem..."

Feeling nearly strangled by Damien, Emma was desperate.

Finally, Damien’s grip eased, and with a snap, Emma was free from his grasp.

Straightening her clothes and rubbing her throat, she glared at him resentfully.

Damien glanced at her, "What’s with that look?"

It wasn’t a question but an exclamation, indicating she shouldn’t look at him that way.

To avoid being lifted again, Emma quickly adopted a cute, innocent smile, "Just something in my eye!"

Now, for survival, she was willing to say anything, mourning her own dignity.

It was peculiar; Damien didn’t mind the interruption of his moment with Nina Waters but was bothered by his shoes being stepped on.
