Chapter 190: Delivered Before 9 AM
Chapter 190: Delivered Before 9 AM
As the sun rises, ushering in a new day, the world remains unchanged, unaffected by the events of yesterday or the whims of its inhabitants.
Emma Hart steps into the office only to come face-to-face with Sophia Greenwood. Instinctively, Emma’s gaze shifts towards Sophia, almost breaking into a polite smile, if not for the unmistakable hostility emanating from Sophia’s expression.
It suddenly dawns on Emma that they had a heated argument the day before, a rather significant one at that.
What should Emma do now? Adopt a fiercer demeanor? Is she being too forgiving? Considering they share the same office space, creating an overly tense atmosphere would be awkward.
As Emma ponders how to continue coexisting with Sophia under the same roof, she can’t help but notice Sophia’s expression. Her heavy makeup and bold red lips exude arrogance, and her beautiful eyes hold a hint of malice. Does she truly despise her that much?
Maybe Emma is oversimplifying things. Sophia takes a few steps closer, prompting Emma to instinctively step back. Surely, Sophia isn’t looking to slap her again, as if yesterday’s altercation wasn’t enough. Emma may not hold grudges, but that doesn’t mean she’s open to being slapped around.
Lifting her chin, Emma meets Sophia’s gaze head-on, ready to stand her ground if Sophia dares to repeat her actions from yesterday.
Without a word, Sophia hands Emma a stack of documents. "Make fifty copies of these, stamp each one with the official seal, and deliver them to LY Corporation before 9 a.m.!"
Glancing at her watch, Emma realizes it’s already 8:30 a.m. Just making the copies and stamping them, not to mention the travel time to LY Corporation, which is a solid 20-minute journey from their office, makes this task virtually impossible. "This..."
"Do it if you can. If not, you might as well pack up and leave!" Sophia’s tone is unapologetically harsh as she tosses the documents at Emma and turns to leave, issuing her final command.
Watching Sophia’s serpentine departure, Emma reflects on the drastic change in her demeanor. What used to be a professional attitude has now morphed into an outright declaration of war.
Squatting down, Emma Hart painstakingly gathered each document from the ground, tidying them up before standing, a sigh of resignation escaping her. All because of Damien Sterling, she had become a target for everyone. Emma didn’t harbor grand ambitions nor sought conflict with anyone; why was living a stable life so challenging?
But who was to blame? If not that man, then who?
A sudden realization struck Emma, prompting her to spring up from the ground. There was no time for wallowing in self-pity; the minutes were ticking away relentlessly!
"Ah! The printing!"
As Emma waited for the documents to emerge from the printer, she feverishly stamped them with the official seal. Finally done, she glanced at the time, fifteen minutes having slipped by. She had been racing against the clock, but time was a luxury she didn’t have.
Clutching the documents, Emma dashed downstairs, hoping for a smooth journey that would involve hailing a cab right away. She imagined a driver with superb skills who could deliver her to the company within fifteen minutes, thus enabling her to complete her task.
Yet, reality often differed from one’s expectations.
With the streets bustling with traffic, Emma stood at the curb, watching the fifth taxi refuse her ride. As time marched on, she paced anxiously, longing for a bus that would take a detour or a taxi that would agree to take her.
In his penthouse, a man leaned against the floor-to-ceiling windows, coffee in hand, observing Emma Hart’s frantic movements below. He was well aware that Sophia Greenwood was in the design department, especially after yesterday’s uproar. Sophia probably wouldn’t hide anything today and would surely make Emma’s day difficult.
Glancing at his watch, Damien Sterling noted the arrival of his secretary, who announced, "Sir, you have a meeting coming up."
A meeting? Observing Emma’s petite figure from above, seeing her distress, Damien felt indifferent to any meeting.
The secretary glanced at the time, aware they were running late but hesitant to remind him further, fearing Damien’s reprimand. Tentatively, he ventured, "Sir...?"
Damien turned, his eyes playful, though this mirth disappeared as his gaze shifted, replaced by his usual seriousness.
Curiosity piqued, the secretary wondered what outside had caught Damien’s attention.
With a wave of his hand, Damien dismissed the secretary, who promptly exited.
Damien pressed the phone, instructing his driver, "Pretend to pass by the entrance, then take Emma Hart wherever she needs to go."
His slender fingers lingered on the phone for a moment before he adjusted the button on his suit and headed towards the door.
At the doorstep, a red Porsche pulled up in front of Emma Hart. "Where to, beautiful?"
Peering inside, Emma didn’t hesitate to get in. "Amelia, is that you? It’s an emergency!" she exclaimed, feigning despair as she waved a document in her hand. "I need to get to LY."
Amelia Davidson hit the gas. "What a coincidence, I’m headed there too!"
"But..." Emma bit her lip, worried her request was too much.
Amelia glanced at Emma’s downtrodden expression. With years of navigating the corporate world, she understood all too well. "You’ve crossed someone, haven’t you? Tell me, what time do you need to be there? You wouldn’t be this rushed otherwise."
"9 AM!" Emma said, looking defeated.
Checking her watch and seeing it was already 8:50 AM, Amelia let out a resigned laugh. "Who did you upset to deserve such a tight schedule?"
Then, Amelia floored the accelerator, making a quick turn at the intersection and heading down a narrow alley. This alley, typically bustling as a small commercial street, was quiet, with shops still closed. The cramped space barely allowed the car to pass through.
Amelia drove steadily, unfazed by the narrow confines, her attention fixed on the road ahead as she expertly navigated the turns.
At 8:58 AM, they arrived at LY’s office building. Emma rushed out of the car, expressing her thanks.
"Take the third elevator around the corner, quick, it’s less crowded!" Amelia advised from behind.
