Chapter 18: The Wedding Dress
"Damian Sterling, enough is enough, let me go back!" Emma Hart was near her wit’s end with the steely man before her, his grip on her wrist unyielding.
His hands, long-boned and tanned a sexy wheat color, contrasted sharply with Emma’s pale wrists, which he held in a tight clasp, rendering her struggles futile.
"Let me go back, let me go!" she demanded.
Damian Sterling slightly tilted his head, a hint of amusement breaking through his irritation at this defiant woman. His slightly upturned eyes fixed on the struggling Emma Hart.
"Just wait and try on the wedding dress for me," he said, dropping the words coldly before returning to his usual indifference.
The moment the elevator to the living room opened, Emma almost stumbled into Damian’s arms in shock. She was swiftly pulled towards hundreds of wedding dresses.
There were conservative, traditional Chinese cheongsams and pristine Western wedding gowns.
Everything imaginable was present, the bridal shop staff standing in rows, bowing slightly to Emma.
Had he brought the entire store here?
Emma thought despondently, realizing once again that the lifestyle of the wealthy was beyond her wildest imagination.
Damian Sterling lounged on an opulent sofa, his gaze detached.
To him, this marriage was nothing more than a transaction. To him, she was no more than an accessory, a mere pet.
Emma sniffled, struggling to hold back her tears.
A sales associate cautiously approached, holding an elegantly styled, sophisticated white gown. "Miss, do you like this one?"
Emma glanced at the luxurious dress and turned her head away.
Wearing that dress meant becoming an accessory to the man on the sofa, unmoved by her presence.
Emma felt a surge of revulsion and turned her head away sharply.
Gazing at the dazzling array of wedding dresses, their high-quality diamonds and crystals refracting brilliant light, Emma Hart was transported back in time.
She remembered how Ethan Turner had once pulled her into a modest bridal shop, insisting she try on a dress.
Despite now seeing Ethan’s true colors, the joy and bashfulness she felt then were unforgettable.
The woman holding the dress, seeing Emma’s refusal to try it on, became visibly distressed.
Her pale cheeks flushed red as she whispered urgently, "Miss, if you don’t try it on, we’ll all lose our jobs. Mr. Sterling has already threatened us.Please, do this for us."
What! Emma’s gaze snapped to Damian Sterling, who appeared disinterestedly listening to a wedding dress presentation. How could he be so heartless?
Biting her lip, Emma looked at the anxious faces of the dozens of sales associates.
Reluctantly, she picked a dress, knowing she would never have agreed to try it on for Damian’s sake alone.
"I’m ready," she announced.
The moment Damian Sterling saw Emma, a flash of astonishment crossed his eyes.
The pristine white dress hugged her graceful curves, making her skin seem even more luminous. Delicate diamond earrings sparkled beside her charming, oval face, and her chestnut hair, styled into lazy curls, added a touch of fresh, feminine charm.
"Miss, this dress suits you perfectly. It seems your partner likes it too," the saleswoman commented, flattering her.
Damian Sterling’s gaze lingered before returning to his usual impassive expression.
Damn it, he had seen countless beautiful women; why should he be so affected by her?
