Chapter 171: Whatever You Think, It Comes

Why is she running so fast?"

Damien Sterling turned, his face set in a frown. "Don’t you know pregnant women shouldn’t exert themselves like this?"

Exertion? Had she sprinted a hundred meters, lifted weights, or completed a Thomas Flair? What exactly did he mean by exertion? The man was certainly exaggerating.

"Here, take this! And you’re blaming me, even though you were the one walking so fast," she retorted.

Damien took the tiger-skin pancake from Emma Hart’s hands.

Seeing the sheer joy on her face as she looked at the pancake, eyes practically shining, made Damien wonder, could it really be that delicious?

Emma bit into one, exclaiming, "Wow, this is so tasty! Just like the old days!"

Observing Damien’s slow reaction, Emma reached out to try one of his, "Let me see if the chestnut one tastes the same."

Damien slapped her hand away with a snap, "Eat your own, this one’s mine!"

Emma rubbed her hand, struck by his forcefulness. "Stingy! What’s the harm in sharing one? And don’t you eat any of mine, hmph!"

Damien pulled another steaming, golden-crusted tiger-skin pancake from his bag and bit into it, finally tasting it.

Savoring it, Damien found the pancake much more delightful than he had anticipated.

"Well?" Emma watched his expression, certain it couldn’t be that bad. The man seemed to be enjoying it.

Hearing her, Damien, who had shown a slight change in expression, immediately masked it, pretending to be unimpressed, "It’s alright."

Denial much! Emma silently scorned the man before her. Clearly, his expression said it all.

But let it be; the man was too proud to admit something was tasty. If he ever complimented the food, that would be the day!

Emma continued eating, looking up just to pop another piece into her mouth. Before she could swallow, her eyes landed on a cart ahead. A young girl was selling "tomato and plum."

Taking a step forward, Emma left Damien watching her, her enthusiasm for food making her seem like a wild horse unleashed.

"What now?" he asked.

With her mouth still full, Emma couldn’t speak but excitedly gestured towards the cart, "That... that..."

Damien Sterling’s gaze followed Emma Hart’s pointing finger to the stall ahead, walking over with her.

"I’ll have one," Emma began, reaching for her wallet, but Damien stretched a card towards her, "One is enough? Let’s get ten, and ten of that other thing we saw earlier too."

The vendor, surprised by the sight of the card, had never seen anyone use a card at his small stand before.

Noticing the vendor’s and Emma’s lack of reaction, Damien waved his card again, a card he carried for emergencies, given that he usually had an assistant handle everything.

Emma thought to herself, this man was truly a pampered prince; thrown into the common world, he might not survive.

Quickly stepping in front of Damien, Emma offered an awkward smile to the young vendor, "Don’t mind him, I have cash."

The idea of using a card for a simple tomato and plum snack seemed absurd to her.

The vendor, suppressing a smile, went back to her tasks.

Truth be told, Emma was quite put off by Damien’s behavior at the moment.

Damien, catching the embarrassed yet barely suppressed amusement on Emma’s face, wondered if she dared to mock him to his face.

"Hmm?" Damien grasped Emma’s face, "Daring to despise me?"

Emma’s cheeks puffed under Damien’s grip, rendering her speechless.

Yet, seeing Damien’s earnest expression only made her want to laugh more.

Was she wrong to find his insistence on using a gold card at a street stall amusing? It was as if he didn’t know how the poor lived.

Emma dared not voice these thoughts, merely gesturing, "No... not at all, how could I?"

Yet, Emma’s effort to suppress her amusement betrayed her true feelings.

Damien’s grip tightened slightly, punishingly, forcing her to look up at him due to his height.

This was becoming too much for Emma; she had already denied it, yet he persisted!

Anger tinged Emma’s face as she reached out to hit him, "Let go of me! People are watching!"

Emma glanced sideways at the young vendor, embarrassed.

The vendor looked on shyly but with evident envy.

Emma couldn’t understand this envy; if they wanted to trade places, they were welcome to it!

"On the street!" Emma Hart locked eyes with Damien Sterling, as if her gaze could somehow intimidate him, but clearly, she lacked that power.

The man arched an eyebrow, his approach devilishly close, enjoying the moment to tease Emma Hart.

Watching her tense, frightened, yet trying not to make a scene amused him inexplicably.

He leaned in closer, his face marked by a roguish grin, "Believe me, I’d kiss you right here."

As Damien’s lips inched closer, Emma couldn’t tear her eyes away, fearing that if she did, his lips would find hers.

Emma panicked, aware of their public surroundings. This man was the type to do exactly as he said!

"I believe, I believe!" Emma quickly conceded, yet he didn’t let go.

What was he planning? His presence drew attention wherever he went, attracting glances and whispers. If her high school homeroom teacher saw this, it would be a disaster!

"Emma..." A familiar voice called from behind, and someone turned her face towards the man calling her name.

High school! Homeroom teacher!

At this moment, Emma felt like she should buy a lottery ticket, so unbelievable were her words coming true.

"Hel...hello, teacher!" Emma managed to force out the words, simultaneously trying to push Damien away, urging him to release her.

Damien Sterling then stepped aside, acting as though the preceding events had nothing to do with him.

Her high school homeroom teacher had always been kind to Emma.

Seeing Damien Sterling by her side, the teacher couldn’t help but take a few extra glances, eventually offering praise, "Your boyfriend? He’s tall and handsome, you two make a perfect couple."

"It’s not like that..." Emma instinctively began to explain.

Damien Sterling quickly stepped in front of her, extending his hand, "Good to meet you, teacher. I’m Emma Hart’s husband."
