Chapter 161: Wanting to See Him Happy

Chapter 161: Wanting to See Him Happy

When Matthew Taylor dropped Emma Hart back at the company, Oliver Westmore was already there, waiting early.

Oliver was there to confirm the details of a contract signing scheduled for the next day.

"Mr. Taylor, I look forward to a pleasant collaboration," he said.

Matthew Taylor responded with a smile, though without a direct answer.

The two had enjoyed a cordial conversation just days before, essentially taking the upcoming partnership as a given.

Yet, Matthew Taylor harbored a slight unease, the warnings from Damien Sterling lingering in his mind.

Nonetheless, the offer from the Westmore Group was too tempting for Matthew to ignore.

The next day, Emma Hart woke to find Damien Sterling standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, seemingly preoccupied with his thoughts.

Emma couldn’t help but feel a sense of loss seeing him like this.

Shortly after, an assistant entered and reported to Damien, "Mr. Sterling, the Taylor Corporation has decided to sign the contract with Mr. Westmore. The signing ceremony is expected to take place in half an hour."

Despite the hint of disappointment on his face, Damien maintained a composed demeanor. "Some things are beyond our control. If Taylor Corporation’s vision is so limited, then I see no reason to ally with them."

The assistant left with a sense of regret.

Following the assistant’s departure, Emma approached, inquiring about the significance of the partnership for Damien.

"It was indeed crucial," the assistant sighed, "Mr. Sterling’s ambitions extend far beyond City A, but breaking out of it and partnering with the B Corporation was a critical step. Now, it seems like Mr. Sterling’s first move might be doomed to failure."

How could the word ’failure’ even exist in Damien Sterling’s vocabulary?

Remembering the conversation she had with Matthew Taylor the day before, Emma thought she might give it a try.

Reflecting on the solitary figure of Damien standing at the window, Emma realized the immense burdens he carried.

Although she knew her efforts might be akin to a drop in the ocean or a moth to flame, she felt compelled to try.

"Assistant, can you tell me who Mr. Sterling was supposed to partner with?" she asked.

"The Taylor Corporation," the assistant replied.

"The Taylor Corporation?" Emma repeated, pondering over the assistant’s words.

She wondered if it could be Matthew Taylor.

Even if it wasn’t Matthew directly, could there be a connection?

Emma decided it was worth a shot to explore further.

In the Taylor Group’s boardroom, a banner proudly displayed at the back read, "Celebrating the powerful collaboration between Taylor Group and Mr. Westmore of Westmore Industries for a successful partnership."

Just as Matthew Taylor was about to sign the document, his assistant entered and approached him, announcing, "Miss Emma is outside and wishes to see you!"

This caused Matthew Taylor to pause momentarily, a mix of surprise and curiosity washing over him.

Emma Hart?

It was as if a force propelled Matthew Taylor towards the door, driven by a desire to uncover Emma Hart’s intentions.

Turning to Oliver Westmore with an apologetic tone, Matthew said, "Please, excuse me for a moment."

Stepping outside, Matthew was greeted by the sight of Emma Hart, who took a step forward with excitement, exclaiming, "It’s really you!"

Matthew couldn’t help but smile at her genuine and endearing demeanor, replying, "Indeed, it is me."

Catching her breath, Emma tried to compose herself.

"Don’t rush; take your time to explain what’s going on."

Emma let out a sigh, "I’m here on behalf of a friend looking to partner with your company."

"A friend?" Matthew inquired, intrigued.

"He’s interested in collaborating with your company."

Matthew was taken aback, "Damien Sterling of Sterling Group?"

Emma nodded, earnestly adding, "Please believe me, choosing Sterling Group would be the right decision."

Emma’s conviction and the steady gaze she fixed on Matthew only piqued his interest further.

Having seen her greet Oliver Westmore of Westmore Group just the day before, and now presenting herself before him, Matthew marveled at Emma’s audacity and skill.

"Why should I trust Sterling Group?" he questioned, skepticism evident in his tone.

Emma pursed her lips, acknowledging her lack of expertise in the nuances of their potential partnership.

"I may not understand the specifics of your collaboration, but my trust in Damien Sterling and Sterling Group compels me to persuade you to do the same. You won’t regret choosing Sterling Group," she asserted confidently.

Matthew’s laughter broke the tension, his decision already made. "Alright, I’ll trust you," he conceded.

Emma’s excitement was palpable, "Really?" she asked, barely containing her joy.

Matthew nodded affirmatively, revealing that his decision wasn’t solely influenced by Emma.

Despite the apparent success of the contract with Mr. Westmore and everything seeming straightforward, Matthew had harbored reservations.

Opting to partner with Sterling Group now eased a lingering unease, settling his once anxious heart.

Just as Emma was about to leap for joy, Oliver Westmore emerged from the conference room.

Emma Hart looked utterly perplexed as she stared at Oliver Westmore in astonishment before turning to Matthew Taylor to ask, "The person you were about to sign the contract with...was it Oliver Westmore?"

Matthew Taylor nodded affirmatively. "Yes, that’s correct. However, I’ve decided to sign the contract with Sterling Group instead."

Upon hearing Matthew Taylor’s decision, Oliver Westmore didn’t argue with him; after all, the decision was always in Matthew Taylor’s hands.

Oliver Westmore’s gaze then shifted to Emma Hart.

Despite his outward calmness, Emma Hart could see the disappointment in Oliver Westmore’s eyes directed at her, and she found herself avoiding his gaze.

Her thoughts had been solely on Damien Sterling up until that moment.

Her actions were not driven by any understanding of market benefits; she simply wanted to make Damien Sterling happy through her own efforts and sacrifices.

But Emma Hart had never considered that her attempts to please Damien Sterling would result in significant losses for Oliver Westmore, which greatly unsettled her.

Damien Sterling had already arrived behind her, catching sight of Emma Hart. He knew this woman was up to no good.

"Emma Hart! What are you doing here?" Damien Sterling’s icy voice reached her from behind, sending a chill throughout her body.

Upon seeing Damien Sterling approach, Matthew Taylor extended his hand, "Mr. Sterling, I look forward to a fruitful collaboration."

Damien Sterling glanced between Emma Hart and Matthew Taylor, suspecting her involvement.

How could Damien Sterling allow business gains to be obtained through a woman?

Proudly lifting his head, he didn’t reach out to shake hands, "Mr. Taylor, I, Damien Sterling, do not secure business through women."

Matthew Taylor, with a smile, lowered his hand, "Mr. Sterling, Miss Emma has genuine feelings for you. She was unaware that the Taylor Corporation was mine. Miss Emma saved my father a few days ago. She came here today unaware of our dealings, but please believe me, Mr. Sterling, I am a businessman. I would not seek a partnership based on personal affairs."
