Chapter 126: Sharp-Witted and Articulate

Damien Sterling, holding the employee handbook, stepped forward and observed the hustle of the design department.

Astonishingly, amidst the scattered items, not a single person offered to help her pick them up.

"It seems that everyone in the design department wants to learn, so everyone should copy this employee handbook." Damien declared, flipping through the hefty employee handbook of over a hundred pages.

His piercing gaze swept over everyone, the icy chill of his stare enveloping each person.

"Whoever doesn’t finish copying this by tomorrow will submit their resignation!" His authoritative words silenced any dissent.

With an indifferent turn, Damien dropped the handbook onto the floor.

As the workday ended, Emma Hart received a message from Damien Sterling, instructing her to wait at a designated location.

From a distance, Emma, cautious and bag in hand, scanned her surroundings.

Observing her wary demeanor, Damien played nonchalantly with his expensive watch after Emma got into the car.

The watch, different from the one he wore before, caught Emma’s glance—a true capitalist.

His antics today, no doubt, would make her the target of her colleagues’ frustration.

"Why so cautious?" Damien questioned, seeming unappreciated despite his assistance, not even a smile from her.

Emma, feeling helpless, glanced at Damien, recalling the day’s events.

"I’m afraid a colleague might be waiting to ambush me," she explained. Indeed, even her help had made her a target of resentment.

The next morning, Emma seemed to have left all her worries behind, starting the day filled with positive energy.

Waking up earlier than usual for work, she still felt groggy.

Stretching, she opened her eyes to find Damien standing at the foot of her bed, looking down at her.

Stunned, her gaze lingered on his face.

Even unadorned in the early morning, he exuded an irresistible charm.

Emma couldn’t help but lament the unfairness of his good looks.

"If you’re tired, keep sleeping," Damien said indifferently, his presence in her room a bold declaration of his dominance.

Clearly, he owned the company and what he said, went.

Emma Hart stood up, distancing herself, "That would mean docking my pay."

Damian Sterling offered casually yet with a serious demeanor, "Why don’t you just stay at home, and I’ll pay you?"

Seeing her like this was somewhat unbearable for him, but he seemed to forget that there were many others working as hard as Emma Hart in his company.

However, in his eyes, she was the only one that mattered.

"I certainly don’t want that," Emma Hart rejected firmly.

Damien Sterling just used another way of saying it. She didn’t have to do anything every month, and he also paid her a salary. He said it nicely, but it’s better to tell her directly that this is the maintenance fee for her!

Walking together toward the bathroom, they entered the spacious room, large enough for two.

Damian stood in front of the mirror, reaching for his toothbrush at the center, when Emma squeezed past him, pushing him aside slightly.

Damian looked at Emma’s defiant expression, his eyebrows arching slightly, "Got this bold from just one day at work?"

"Absolutely!" Emma quickly took her place at the center of the mirror to brush her teeth, finishing her routine with a toothy grin and whispering to herself, "Emma Hart, you’ve got this!"

Leaving Damian behind in the bathroom, his astonished gaze followed her. Had work made her lose her senses?

After breakfast, Emma prepared to leave early.

Damian hurried after her, quickening his pace, "Let me drive you!"

Emma glanced at her watch, "Mr. President, catching a ride with you once in a while is fine, but if it becomes a habit, I fear my colleagues might notice one day."

Pausing, she looked at Damian as he was about to speak, continuing, "Mr. Sterling, if you keep talking, I’ll miss the bus. You know the bus stop is nearly 800 meters away, at the end of the street in front of your complex. It takes about ten minutes to walk from this vast complex to the bus stop."

"I’ll take you there," he offered.

Emma raised her hand in a stopping gesture, "Beyond your affluent neighborhood lies a middle-to-upper-class area. I’m not sure if any of my colleagues live there. So, Mr. President, please, show some mercy."

Watching the woman’s cherry lips quiver non-stop, one might wonder what greasy thing she ate in the morning that made her mouth look so smooth and pink.

Emma Hart, oblivious to this, suddenly found Damien Sterling stepping forward to grasp her chin.

Emma stared at Damien in astonishment at his sudden move, clamping her mouth shut as a dangerous glint appeared in his eyes, his gaze locked on her.

As Emma leaned back, Damien’s grip tightened.

His voice, deep and husky with a heavy dose of sensuality, broke the silence, "Since when have you become so sharp-witted and articulate?"

Damien Sterling’s presence exuded a chill that seemed to freeze everything around him.

Lowering his gaze at Emma, he appeared to be waiting for her response, a mischievous smile curling at the corner of his lips, "Hmm?"

"I didn’t," Emma managed to pull away from his hold, this time he wasn’t as forceful, perhaps cautious of leaving marks on her chin.

Emma clutched her bag tightly and hurriedly ran out.

What seemed like a distant bus stop was quickly reached thanks to Emma’s rushed sprint.

Nothing is more blissful than arriving at the bus stop just as the bus pulls up.

In the morning light, the Sterling Group building shone brilliantly, its towering structure piercing the clouds.

It was said that the Sterling Group intended to make its building the tallest in the city, a landmark.

Standing at the entrance, Emma put on the work ID she received the day before and walked into the Sterling Group with pride, feeling a sense of identity as a member of the Sterling Group, not just as someone trailing behind Damien Sterling.

Arriving early, Emma found the design department empty, a stark contrast to the usual bustling environment.

She took the time to tidy up everyone’s desks and the communal areas.

By the time she finished, colleagues had started to arrive.

Overheard were casual remarks about the cleanliness, "Huh? Why is the desk so clean today?"

After glancing at Emma, several colleagues thanked her.

Emma nodded, her mood instantly lifted.
