Chapter 49: Chapter 49: First Encounter with Another Plane
Facing Pei Yan’s bewildered expression, Hu Wenjun did not explain much. As he continued climbing the stairs, he changed the topic, saying, "The floors here automatically shuffle once every so often. Only the captain and department-level personnel are aware of the routes inside. Outsiders barging in will only get trapped and unable to find their way out."
"Then what about ordinary people coming here for business? What happens if they mistakenly enter?" Pei Yan followed behind, rubbing the back of his head and asked.
Hu Wenjun paused, turned his head to glance at Pei Yan, and pouted, "Typically, ordinary people won’t come in. Most people work in the lobby. If business needs to be conducted here, the team captain has to personally lead them. Mistakenly enter? Then consider yourself unlucky. You’ll basically be left stuck in here for two or three days until you learn your lesson, after which someone will lead you out."
Hearing this, Pei Yan felt a chill down his neck and quickly stuck closely behind Hu Wenjun. After climbing two or three more floors, they turned at a staircase and pushed open a door, walking inside.
Coming out of the room, Pei Yan found it to be a spacious and vast warehouse, and they were standing on a suspended steel corridor embedded in one side of the wall of this warehouse.
In the center below the warehouse stood four ancient and varied large doors. At this moment, the doors had been opened, emitting a variety of soft, brilliant, or dazzling lights. Not far in front of the doors were dozens of colleagues running back and forth, loudly shouting and directing.
"Today is Deportation Day, just in time for you to witness the world you’ve always been interested in!" As he spoke, Hu Wenjun pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, placed it in his mouth, and shouted to the crowd below, "Wang Wenze! Leave the stuff down there and come up!"
Wang Wenze, holding a clipboard and writing, heard someone calling him. Following the sound, he saw Pei Yan waving at him from the steel structure and handed the clipboard to a colleague beside him, running up along the wall-side staircase.
"Xiaopei received his equipment today, and he will be on a mission with you the day after tomorrow." Amidst the swirling smoke, Hu Wenjun instructed Wang Wenze, who had stood beside him.
Wang Wenze rested one hand on the railing and smiled as he wrapped an arm around Pei Yan’s neck, "Is Xiaopei joining our team?"
"For now, just going on a mission with you first. The specific team hasn’t been decided yet!" Hu Wenjun leaned his elbows on the railing, casually replying as he watched the bustling crowd below.
"Alright!" Wang Wenze didn’t ask further, leaning on the railing to look below as well.
Pei Yan placed his hands on the railing, staring at the four large doors, and curiously asked, "Brother Wang, what’s going on here? Does Deportation Day mean we’re deporting those who crossed dimensions? So, those four doors below are gateways to other dimensions?"
"Yes, exactly!"
Wang Wenze continued, pointing his finger at the four doors below to explain, "Those four doors are the gateways to other dimensions. They open once every three months, and during that time, we send back those who crossed dimensions and were detained during the past three months through these Teleportation Gates back to their original dimensions."
"Oh!" Pei Yan nodded thoughtfully, thinking to himself that according to Wang Wenze, since they open once every three months, there must be a place to detain these people. He wondered if it was among those perplexingly mysterious floors from earlier.
As he thought of this, he continued to ask, "After these doors open, are we connected with the other dimensions?"
"Yes, we are connected. They can also travel through these doors to come to our side, but the decision power is on our side. We have the right to make these doors one-way." Hu Wenjun, who was smoking on the side, interjected to explain.
At this moment, the originally pure white jade wall below the warehouse suddenly split open with a crack. Before long, as the crack widened, a passage more than five meters high and ten meters wide appeared before everyone.
In Pei Yan’s gaze, three massive figures, each over two and a half meters tall, appeared at the entrance of the passage. Watching the monsters bound by multiple copper rings, each accompanied by four or five colleagues hauling them with long poles, Pei Yan blurted out, "Minotaur!"
Minotaur? It’s really a Minotaur! This creature, only seen in games and movies, appeared alive before Pei Yan. That massive bull’s head turning with each breath expelled large clouds of white mist, and those robust hooves made resounding thuds with every step—this absolutely couldn’t be something faked with cosplay.
"If you encounter them on a mission, make sure not to call them Minotaur, or it will further enrage them," Hu Wenjun advised Pei Yan in a low voice, looking toward the visibly excited Pei Yan beside him.
Just as Pei Yan was about to ask if they could understand our language, he suddenly remembered the translation devices issued in the warehouse, and his words changed to, "Why?"
"Because if you say Minotaur, the translation device translates it word for word for them. This term is derogatory to their ears, like calling a black person the N-word." Wang Wenze shrugged and replied.
"Then what should I call them?"
"Minotauros, or if that’s too hard to say, just call them Tauros."
"Oh!"
After listening to Hu Wenjun’s explanation, Pei Yan shifted his gaze back to the three Minotaurs below. Despite the dual confinement of copper rings and lassos, they kept struggling, causing quite a hassle for the colleagues dragging them.
At this moment, a familiar figure quickly stepped in front of the Minotaurs from outside the passage, and with fists radiating red light, gave each of the three Minotaurs a heavy punch.
The Minotaurs, who had been rebellious and defiant just moments ago, instantly wilted after receiving the punches. Their entire bodies seemed to float lightly, and under the colleagues’ drag, they were brought to a Teleportation Gate emitting black light, where they were pushed in with force. Moments later, one after another, the restraining rings floated back out from the Teleportation Gate, returning to the staff’s hands.
Pei Yan watched that figure weaving through the crowd with heartfelt admiration, "Xia Yu is amazing!"
"Of course, she’s considered by Elder Lin as having potential not below that of Ye Ruozai," Wang Wenze said, waving happily at Liang Qian, who inadvertently noticed him from within the crowd.
Liang Qian, upon noticing him, pulled Xia Yu beside her to look over, and the two of them waved in response.
Pei Yan’s hand, raised in response to the two below, froze mid-air as he was left dumbfounded, staring at the next item being transported through the passage!
