Chapter 977 - 970: To My Love

Chapter 977: Chapter 970: To My Love

It appears this must be the main chamber of the entire tomb complex, and I must say, it’s quite disappointing—there are barely any traces of burial goods on the circular platform below. In other words, they were likely going to leave empty-handed this time.

The main chamber is located right in the middle of the circular cave, connected to the opposite stone wall of the entrance platform; a zigzagging path leads down to the platform, and around it, there’s a shimmer of water. If my guess is correct, it must be an underground lake lower than the platform engulfing it.

Although the cave is still very cold, the lake has not frozen over; droplets of water fall from above the cave from time to time, ticking as they hit the surface of the lake.

Amidst a lull while everyone was observing their surroundings, Cheng Ziang, already approaching the main chamber’s platform under the guidance of the Flying Head Monster, saw Luo’er and the others begin to carefully make their way down the zigzagging path toward the chamber platform.

"Luo’er, let me tell you," Fulajie’er flew up to Luo’er with a tense expression and cautioned, "Once you go down, you must not touch anything on that platform. That’s her bottom line. If you break her rules, she’ll genuinely kill someone."

"I understand," Luo’er nodded, then looked at Cheng Ziang not far away with mixed feelings.

Cheng Ziang followed the path to the edge of the platform, took a deep breath, and then, led by the Flying Head Monster, stepped onto the central steps.

When he reached the pillar, he tried to touch it, but his hand was immediately entwined by the monster’s hairlike strands. At first, he thought she didn’t want him to meddle casually, but it turned out that wasn’t the case.

The Flying Head Monster guided his hand to a pillar, and Cheng Ziang, shining his flashlight upon it, found shallow runes inscribed on its surface, quickly realizing she might want him to activate the rune.

Though not well-versed in magic, Cheng Ziang’s fundamental knowledge was solid. He took out his magic wand and pressed it against the lines of the rune, trying to chant spells.

He had just chanted a magic-flow guiding spell when the entire rune instantly activated, emitting a soft glow, spreading up and down like an electric current. Once the magic reached the pillar’s top, a dazzling white light burst forth from it, followed by the second and third pillars.

In less than two seconds, all the pillars around the sarcophagus were illuminated, filling the entire platform with light as bright as day.

The sudden intense light made Cheng Ziang involuntarily close his eyes, and it took a while for him to recover, then he tried to open them. Bathed in the white light beaming from the tops of the pillars, the whole platform seemed to be immersed in sanctity.

The white stone sarcophagus at the center of the platform became increasingly conspicuous; Cheng Ziang then noticed that not a trace of moss clung to it—it was as if it had just been placed there yesterday, with its surface emitting a holy luster, much like marble.

Before Cheng Ziang could recover from his shock, the Flying Head Monster began a new action, leading him towards the center of the platform, towards the sarcophagus.

"Hey, can I go over there?" Cheng Ziang asked, eyes wide, receiving an affirmative nod from the Flying Head Monster.

He took a deep breath and then slowly walked toward the sarcophagus, stepping onto the low platform and arriving in front of the exquisite sarcophagus.

The sarcophagus was a rectangular prism in overall shape, about three meters long, with both width and height exceeding one meter. There wasn’t much to say about the shape, but Cheng Ziang was particularly interested in the material of the sarcophagus.

At first glance, the material seemed somewhat similar to marble, but with an added sense of smoothness reminiscent of jade. Cheng Ziang took another deep breath, then uneasily watched the Flying Head Monster as he tentatively extended his hand to touch the sarcophagus.

The Flying Head Monster did not lash out at his gesture but continued to gaze at him quietly, her eyes seemingly filled with countless tender emotions.

By now, Luo’er and his companions had also reached the central platform, looking at the spectacle with astonishment. Baiyue, having adjusted to the light, began to take out paper and pen to record the layout of the chamber, while Tangmo was particularly focused on the runes on the pillars.

Tangmo found the pillars’ capability to emit dazzling light entirely unappealing, knowing without thinking that it was the glow of magic crystals engraved with runes, commonly known as magic crystal lamps. She was more interested in the style of the runes on the pillar.

"So, can I go over and have a look?" Luo’er raised his hands and tentatively walked towards Cheng Ziang, while carefully asking.

"May I?" Upon hearing Luo’er’s request, Cheng Ziang looked at the Flying Head Monster and asked.

The Flying Head Monster didn’t respond, nor did it avert its gaze, still staring intently at Cheng Ziang, but it nodded firmly.

"Wow, why does she accommodate that guy so much?" Seeing this, Fulajie’er couldn’t help but mutter to herself.

Luo’er slowly walked over to Cheng Ziang, who was currently ignoring the Flying Head Monster’s stare and closely observing the sarcophagus.

After glancing at the Flying Head Monster and then at the sarcophagus, Luo’er’s gaze settled on a skeleton lying on the ground not far from the sarcophagus.

"Eh, has someone been here before?" Luo’er mumbled to himself, stepping towards the skeleton.

"Luo’er, Luo’er, don’t mess around, I told you not to touch anything," Fulajie’er called out anxiously.

"Oh, sorry, I forgot, my apologies, I got a bit carried away," Luo’er said, scratching his head with a sheepish look, after hearing Fulajie’er’s warning.

He couldn’t forget that their chance to enter the tomb was largely thanks to Cheng Ziang’s efforts. Therefore, without his or the Flying Head Monster’s nod, he couldn’t take matters into his own hands.

Knowing this guy, when it killed, it did so without reason, and if it were to complicate matters, the people from the Advance Team wouldn’t last ten seconds against her.

"Let me have a look," Cheng Ziang said, seeing Luo’er’s predicament, and turned to walk towards the skeleton, meanwhile looking at the Flying Head Monster and asking, "So, may I see that?"

In response to Cheng Ziang’s request, the Flying Head Monster nodded as usual, but this time it seemed somewhat restless, drifting back and forth uneasily, with its long silver hair frequently blocking Cheng Ziang’s view.

As Cheng Ziang arrived at the skeleton, he saw it lying face down with its head turned towards the sarcophagus, right hand outstretched in its direction, as if it had tried to reach the sarcophagus before death but ultimately failed, collapsing on its path.

He crouched down for a closer inspection before stating to himself with furrowed brows, "The bones are female, about one meter seventy in height, age... wait, these are elven remains..."

"Is it another sacrificial burial?" Luo’er asked from a distance.

"Probably not," Cheng Ziang shook his head, then bent over and discovered a small, delicate golden dagger stuck in the skeleton’s rib cage. He glanced at the Flying Head Monster, then carefully pulled out the dagger and examined it closely in his hands.

"A Kedal metal dagger, stabbed into the corpse’s chest, this must be the cause of death," Cheng Ziang said, looking over at Luo’er not far away.

"Suicide?" Luo’er asked.

"Possible," Cheng Ziang nodded, then turned the dagger over to find a line of tiny letters etched into the blade.

"Is this... Ancient Aud script?" Cheng Ziang muttered, frowning, then passed the dagger to Luo’er, "Luo’er, can you see what is written on this dagger?"

"Oh." Luo’er went over without hesitation, took the dagger, and scrutinized it closely.

After roughly three minutes, he managed to grasp the pronunciation of the inscription, took a deep breath, and read aloud, "To my beloved Liseya from Karis Brunch... wait, Karis Brunch!!"
