Chapter 955: Chapter 948: Flying Head Monster

"Woo....."

Just at this critical moment, a long and sorrowful sobbing sound emanated from outside the tent. Upon hearing this sound, everyone was startled without exception, with Feng trembling all over and almost losing his balance, luckily Cheng Ziang was there to steady him in time.

He lowered his head, noticing that Feng was staring at him with widened eyes, her face unusually stricken with horror, her whole body shaking uncontrollably. He followed Feng’s lead by covering the back of her hand with his, comforting her with his actions.

To the side, Luo’er’s eyes were wide, his cheeks clenched tightly. Had his self-control not been high enough, he might have cried out at that moment.

This sound was exceptionally terrifying, a sensation that struck fear into the soul, which is why even Luo’er, an atheist, was shocked by it.

The relatively calm Cheng Ziang noticed a detail: the fluctuation of the magic in the air had become more intense around the time the sound appeared.

All three kept their mouths tightly shut, not even daring to breathe heavily, their bodies tensed to the extreme. The sobbing sound was drawing closer from afar, clearly signaling that an entity causing the increasingly evident magic fluctuations was approaching.

At this moment, Luo’er and Cheng Ziang could also feel something approaching them. The magic in the air was fluctuating erratically, clearly under the manipulation of this entity.

The closer the sound got, the louder the wind outside the tent became, the fluttering flags snapping violently, the tent billowing unrestrainedly—a rare phenomenon on this tranquil snow night.

The sound eventually drew close to the trio’s tent and, for some reason, stopped. Luo’er noticed that this sound didn’t resemble the howling of the wind; rather, it sounded more like a voice made by a person. But if it were a person, then who was standing outside the tent, and why hadn’t Fulajie’er come back to report yet?

Along with the wind, the sound shifted through several pitches, as if dissatisfied with its own voice, constantly tuning, trying to produce a sound that would please it. But no matter how hard it tried, to Luo’er and the others, all these sounds were equally horrifying.

This entity stood outside the tent for nearly two and a half minutes, continually adjusting its voice. Suddenly, the sounds stopped abruptly, replaced by a series of incomprehensible whispers, so rapid that Luo’er could not even comprehend the speech, let alone its content.

Luo’er gritted his teeth, slowly flipping the fire selector switch on his rifle, making sure to not make any noise. He was so nervous that his palms were drenched in cold sweat. Although it was a simple action to flip the fire selector, it took Luo’er several minutes to do so.

Just when everyone was on tenterhooks, the murmur outside the tent suddenly ceased, giving rise to an unnerving silence that felt like the calm before a storm.

Suddenly, a blast of air erupted, tearing the tent apart and producing a piercing tearing sound. As the tent ripped apart, Luo’er saw a luminescent orb rushing towards him.

Before he could react, an invisible barrier unfolded before him, and after passing through the transparent shield, the glowing orb turned dim and transparent, as if it were nothing.

Accompanied by the biting cold wind, Luo’er felt something swiftly passing through his body, a soul-threatening sensation as if his very soul was being scrutinized.

He turned around blankly, realizing that after this eerie sensation had passed through him, it circled around in mid-air and then slowly emitted a fluorescence, gathering into a luminescent orb.

"Is that the creature that killed these people?" Cheng Ziang exclaimed in shock.

It was an orb of light floating in mid-air. Of course, describing it as an orb of light might be a bit generic. Luo’er remembered their encounter in Weird Talk Forest when Nightingale assembled Fulajie’er’s body using runes. Yes, the image of this light orb was almost identical to Fulajie’er at that time.

But the only difference was that back then, Nightingale had pieced together Fulajie’er’s entire body, while this orb of light only had a head and long hair, resembling the monster known as the Flying Head Monster, which made it look incredibly eerie.

Now floating in front of them was a woman’s head, her hair like strands of silver flowing as if underwater, drifting weightlessly.

The woman had an exquisitely beautiful face that betrayed her race—Snow Elf—quite easily. It was a pity that perhaps due to the influence of magic power constituents, the woman’s face was pale to the point of being luminescent.

What was even more terrifying was that the woman’s eyes were solely white without any pupils, which made Luo’er shiver uncontrollably the moment he laid eyes on her.

"Luo’er, are you guys alright..." Fulajie’er’s trembling voice came through in Luo’er’s thoughts.

"We’re fine, was it you who activated the shield to protect me just now?" Luo’er asked, gazing at the woman’s head.

"Yes," Fulajie’er replied with lingering fear, "she was about to ram you with her own head which is composed entirely of high-concentration magic power, if she had hit you, you would have died instantly, so I activated a magic defense shield to intercept the magic power that made up her head."

"So what just made contact with me was her soul..." Luo’er muttered, narrowing his eyes.

The Flying Head Monster glanced at Luo’er and then at Cheng Ziang and Feng, before suddenly opening its mouth wide, emitting a whining sound.

Its mouth could stretch incredibly wide, reminiscent of the Slit-Mouth Woman, and the sight of its gaping maw had all three frozen in terror, none daring to move.

"Luo’er, you guys need to run, I’ll hold her off, she won’t let you go," Fulajie’er said tremblingly.

"How do you know?" Luo’er asked subconsciously.

"I can feel her intentions, just go, I don’t want you to die..." Fulajie’er’s voice became more and more indistinct until it almost turned into a sob.

After a roaring howl, the Flying Head Monster shot towards Luo’er with lightning speed, so fast that even the highly alert Feng couldn’t react in time.

"Be careful!"

Fulajie’er’s voice, strained to its limit, filled everyone’s minds, and immediately after, an invisible shield once again spread out in front of Luo’er. The Flying Head Monster, upon hitting the shield, saw its luminescent head and hair instantly vanish, but Luo’er felt that same soul-piercing hostility once more.

The monster passed through Luo’er’s body and after flying several meters, its head reassembled. She gathered magic power at an alarmingly fast pace, taking less than a second to concentrate a high density of magic power, making her head glow with a cold radiance once more.

"Ziang, watch out, she’s targeting you!" Luo’er shouted a warning which was meant partly to alert Cheng Ziang but also to remind Fulajie’er to protect him.

Before Luo’er’s words even faded, the Flying Head Monster lunged toward him with lightning speed. By sheer luck, Fulajie’er was a bit faster than the monster, deploying the shield in front of Cheng Ziang as soon as it launched at him.

However, to everyone’s surprise, the Flying Head Monster turned out to be unexpectedly sly. She had no intention of attacking Cheng Ziang at all but instead had used the attack to lure out Fulajie’er’s defense; Luo’er was still her real target.

Suddenly, she veered in midair and shot straight toward Luo’er. In the blink of an eye, she was in front of him. Luo’er’s eyes widened in horror as he gazed at her face so close to his, realizing that if he were hit by her magical attack again, he would truly follow in his father’s footsteps, dying of organ failure caused by Magic Power Erosion.

In the nick of time, Luo’er felt a heavy blow as if someone had knocked into him, and then his body uncontrollably toppled to one side. As he hit the ground, Luo’er stared in shock at Feng who had pushed him away, only to be pierced straight through by the Flying Head Monster.

In the instant the creature’s body went through hers, Feng visibly trembled, then began to convulse, eyes wide open as she fell forward.

"Feng!" All present cried out in unison, their voices filled with desperate agony.
