Chapter 95: Chapter 91: Daily Life
The next day, due to some rearrangement by the HR, Daier found herself placed in the same group as Luo’er. In preparation for the upcoming New Student Welcome Party, they were so busy working overtime.
At first, they chatted on and off, but as they got busier, they didn’t even have time to talk anymore.
"Ah!"
Suddenly, the busy Daier let out a scream. Luo’er quickly set down the dishes he was washing, wiped his hands, and rushed to ask her with concern, "What’s wrong?"
"I broke a glass." Daier grimaced with pain and blood was streaming from her finger.
"You’re bleeding." Luo’er said. He looked around, tore a piece from a relatively clean part of his clothing, and carefully wrapped it around her wound.
Daier didn’t say anything. She bit her lip gently and looked at Luo’er with an indescribable gaze. He was tending to her with such a tender expression in his eyes.
"What’s the matter?" Seeing that Daier was staring at him, Luo’er asked, feeling a bit awkward.
"Nothing." Daier said with a smile, her tone much softer.
"You’re injured, you should rest for a bit!" Luo’er advised.
"I’m fine, I’ve still got work to do." Daier shook her head, rejecting his kindness.
"Let me help you. If your wound gets infected in this condition, it would be troublesome." Luo’er insisted.
"Infection? What does that mean?" Faced with this new term, Daier couldn’t help but ask, puzzled.
"Oh, it’s nothing really. It just means that if your wound gets wet, it will take longer to heal and might even leave a scar." Luo’er explained hastily, breaking out into a cold sweat. To his surprise, even something as basic as wound infection was unknown to the lower-class citizens of Otherworld.
"I’m fine. It doesn’t matter to me whether it leaves a scar or not." Moved by Luo’er’s concern, Daier said earnestly.
"You should take a leave. I will finish your work." Luo’er insisted.
"You..." Daier looked at him. Luo’er was still looking down, not daring to meet her gaze. She bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, then said, "Well, thank you."
"No problem, it’s my responsibility." Luo’er shook his head.
Suitable notifications were given to their kitchen head. Despite his initial rejection, he reluctantly agreed to their plan after Luo’er’s incessant pleadings. But he had a condition - Luo’er had to complete all of Daier’s work by himself.
After sending off Daier, Luo’er threw himself whole-heartedly into the work. He never thought he’d be this busy. He didn’t even get a chance to stop or drink during the entire day.
They were busy from morning till around 11 PM when they finally completed preparations for the day’s event. Most of the people collapsed into their beds and started snoring as soon as they got back to the dormitory. However, Luo’er still had to go to Tangmo’s room to discuss the arrangements for the Welcome Party.
Dragging his tired body, he arrived at Tangmo’s doorfront. After a few reminders, she finally remembered to lock her door. After knocking, Tangmo opened the door.
Seeing Luo’er, she immediately put on a face of blame, then pouted, "You haven’t come to see me for days!"
"I..." Luo’er was at a loss for words at Tangmo’s comment and could only smile wryly at her.
After he stepped into the room and closed the door, he sank into the chair, feeling an instant rush of relief and overwhelming fatigue washing over him.
"I came to talk to you about the situation outside the academy," Luo’er yawned, forcing his eyelids open.
"Luo’er, your hands are all wrinkled." Tangmo went forward to grab his hand and said in distress.
"Stop interrupting, sis!" Luo’er gently pulled his hand back.
"You can hardly keep your eyes open, and yet you’re still talking about missions." Tangmo stared at him with a worried look, pouted, and said, "If I had known this earlier, I would have been the slave instead!"
"I’m fine," Luo’er shook his head firmly, then took a deep breath, and said, "Housekeeper Leon arrived at the academy last night. He told me that troops within Holy Heart City have been moving around. Also, Yue’er suspects some illegal weapons that breach the export regulation were in Holy Heart City. It may be that American agents have infiltrated Holy Heart City. They could be up to something, so be careful."
"Illegal weapons?" Tangmo asked, confused.
"AR-series small-caliber rifles, although the caliber is not yet confirmed. Possibly equipped with medium-caliber rifle barrel modules." Luo’er said.
"Does spotting AR rifles mean that American agents have infiltrated Holy Heart City?" Tangmo continued to ask.
"Haven’t you noticed, since we came to Otherworld, when have you ever seen people from Otherworld using AR rifles?" Luo’er spoke seriously.
"What does that prove?" Tangmo still looked puzzled.
"Although among American machines, it includes early versions of AR, but it’s clear that the Americans don’t seem to want to export such a representative rifle." Luo’er analyzed.
"Besides, the Welcome Party is in a few days, you need to find a way..." Luo’er’s voice grew softer as he spoke. By the time Tangmo looked at him, he had already fallen asleep on the table.
"And you said you weren’t tired!" Tangmo reproached softly. She moved closer to Luo’er, looking at his weary sleep, her heart ached.
"Luo’er, I really wish I could swap places with you. I could comfortably lie on a velvet bed every day, but when I think about you still working hard, I feel restless." Tangmo whispered in his ear. It was unsure whether Luo’er heard her or not, but his elf ear twitched slightly.
"Luo’er, since you’re asleep now, I have no way to carry you to the bed." Tangmo said as she pulled a soft blanket from the bed and gently laid it over him. Then she sat next to him, leaning on the table with him.
"Goodnight, Luo’er!" Tangmo gently said and then quietly closed her eyes beside him.
When Luo’er naturally woke up the next day, his legs had already gone numb, it took a while before he could stand up with difficulty. It was early morning, darkness all around, only the magic lamp in the room glowed dimly.
"Why bother laying here when there’s a perfectly good bed." Luo’er looked at Tangmo lying next to him and shook his head.
As he spoke, Luo’er bent down and picked Tangmo up. Her small frame made it easy to lift. He then walked to the bed and gently laid her on it.
Tangmo was still immersed in her dreams, a sweet smile gracing her face. Luo’er smoothed her hair with his hand and slowly covered her with the blanket.
It was already working hours, so Luo’er had to rush to the kitchen. He originally planned to sneak around the academy when it’s less crowded, but obviously, his plan fell through.
At present, their main objective was to gather information about the academy, but Luo’er could clearly feel that something was about to happen, as if a force was stirring within Holy Heart City. However, he had no idea who it was or what they wanted to do. He only knew that they must be extremely cautious while infiltrating the academy.
With the arrival of the Welcome Party, Luo’er was busy again. After a whole day of hard work, even the iron-stamina Luo’er felt exhausted. Sometimes he wondered how these people, who worked so hard every day, could endure without retaliation.
Apparently, as long as they have a bite to eat, who would risk their life?
That evening, Luo’er finally found some free time and went to Tangmo’s room again.
"Luo’er, look - this is the dress the academy made for me." The moment he entered, Tangmo was excitedly trying on a dress in front of a mirror.
"Hmm." Luo’er nodded with a smile. Tangmo’s dress was made from several pieces of clothing, all in a deep blue shade. It was complemented by a beautiful feathered hat, giving off a unique exotic charm.
"Should I try it on?" Tangmo asked.
"No, stop!" Luo’er waved his hand and said, "It must be a lot of trouble to put this outfit on. Unless you plan to sleep in it tonight."
"I want Luo’er to see!" Tangmo pouted.
"I appreciate your thoughtfulness." Luo’er smiled.
He sat down at the table and lightly tapped his shoulder. Seeing this, Tangmo immediately dropped the dress she was holding, came over to him, and said: "Luo’er, you’ve been working so hard. Let me massage your shoulders."
"Thanks, Miss Audrey!" Luo’er responded with a teasing tone.
"No problem, after all, Luo’er is my slave!" Tangmo also said with a smile.
There was a sudden silence between the two, not knowing what to say. After a long time, Luo’er couldn’t help but ask, "How have your classes been recently?"
"Well," Tangmo nodded, "the instructors are teaching me diligently. I have also read many magic books, I learned a lot of knowledge that I didn’t get at Haiya Academy."
"That’s good," said Luo’er, relieved, "Actually, being able to learn some magic knowledge is also an unexpected harvest of this mission."
"But you have to endure so much hardship every day." Tangmo said sympathetically.
"The hardship is only temporary, it’ll pass if I endure." Luo’er spoke optimistically.
"I’m the noble lady, yet I can’t bear to see you, a slave, suffer. Luo’er, what do you think our outcome would be if we fell in love in this world?" Tangmo leaned down, propped her chin on Luo’er’s shoulder, and asked softly.
The conversation had suddenly become heavy, and Luo’er didn’t know what to say. After a moment of silence, he decided to change the topic, "You need to be careful at the Welcome Party tomorrow, make sure not to give yourself away."
