Chapter 939: Chapter 932: Well-trained

"The Chief is right," the aide said obsequiously.

"However, speaking of which, I’ve never tasted Snow Elf before. I wonder if their meat gets tough from living too long," the Chief said with a lewd smile after a while.

"Heh, the Chief knows best," the aide replied, overjoyed, and hurriedly agreed.

As the two were chatting and laughing, they had barely taken a few steps when they suddenly ran into an invisible wall in the air. The leading Chief, caught off-guard, slammed into it hard, turning his nose red from the impact. He quickly bent down in pain, clutching his nose.

"What happened, Chief?" Seeing that the Chief was in trouble, the aide quickly stepped forward and asked with concern.

"Damn it, how could there be a barrier spell here? Curse these Snow Elves!" the Chief cursed angrily while reaching out his hand, but he grasped at nothing.

"Chief, there’s no barrier spell here," the aide said as he stepped forward and turned to speak.

"That’s not right, I clearly felt a disturbance in magical power just now!" The leading Chief said with a frown, his face full of vigilance.

"Is there? Could it be that the Snow Elf has already sensed us..." Before the aide could finish his sentence, he heard something whizzing past his ear with a piercing whooshing sound.

Immediately after, a spray of blood burst from the head of the gunman in their team, who was carrying a Browning M1918 automatic rifle. His hat flew off in the blink of an eye, and the man fell straight down into the snowy ground, his blood splattering the pristine whiteness.

"Ambush!!!" Everyone else was still not reacting, but it was the Chief who first snapped into action, yelling loudly as a warning.

"Showtime," Hu Daoke said coldly from his position on the ground as he flipped open the safety selector and decisively pulled the trigger.

Da-da-da... da-da-da-da... da-da-da!!!!

Hu Daoke used short bursts of three to four shots. The rapid succession of bullets hitting the clustered group meant that almost every burst brought someone down; before they could react, he had already taken down about five people.

"Ambush, ambush, everyone get down!" the leading Chief crouched and ducked to the ground, shouting loudly. His aide, who was slow to react, got hit by Hu Daoke’s quick burst and fell silently into the snow, his blood staining the white beneath him.

Hu Daoke could clearly feel that this group was different from the ones he had encountered before. After a brief moment of panic, they had already steadied themselves; all of them were lying on the ground, taking cover behind tree trunks, which greatly reduced the effectiveness of his assault.

"Chief, the enemy is at four o’clock!" After the short disturbance, a gunman hiding behind a hillside mound ducked and informed the leading Chief.

"Then what are you waiting for? Fight back! The enemy seems to be alone; take him down for me!" the Chief said, somewhat frantically.

"Yes!" The gunman nodded, then stuck his body out and opened fire in the general direction.

With that, they began to retaliate. While they did not know Hu Daoke’s exact position, they had a rough idea of his direction. After several volleys of continuous fire, Hu Daoke distinctly felt the pressure and started slowing down his rate of suppressive fire.

One of the gunmen spotted a Browning M1918 automatic rifle beneath the body of a fallen comrade and dashed over to pick it up. But just as he bent over, his head exploded in a burst, and due to the dense gunfire, the others didn’t even hear the shot.

Of course, they wouldn’t have heard the shot even if they weren’t firing because Baiyue was using a Magic Silencer that completely silenced the gunshots. However, this type of silencer had a limited lifespan, which is why Hu Daoke, a machine gunner with high firing frequency, typically wouldn’t use it.

"Where the hell are they shooting from?" The leading Chief, seeing the gunman’s headshot, displayed a look of horror.

"I don’t know, what should we do?" The gunmen were clearly starting to panic.

"Hurry up and deal with that guy, then pull back!" the Chief ordered.

"Yes!" The gunman nodded, increased the rate of fire, and momentarily, more than ten rifles fired in the direction of Hu Daoke.

"Damn, damn, damn!" Hu Daoke ducked his head, hugging the light machine gun to one side and rolling, quickly reaching a depression, then crawling awkwardly in the snow.

Over his head, the sound of bullets whistling and the crackling noise of bullets hitting nearby continued to resonate.

"What the hell is Cheng Ziang doing? Why the fuck are they all shooting at me!" Hu Daoke crawled back, cursing under his breath.

Meanwhile, as Hu Daoke was being suppressed and preparing to move positions, Cheng Ziang also readied himself to shoot.

He had slightly adjusted his deployment based on the enemy’s location; his current position allowed him to perfectly cover most of the enemies with fire, who were all turned away from him, completely oblivious to the attacker behind them.

Cheng Ziang leaned against the tree trunk and then continuously pulled the trigger at these peoples’ backs, his muzzle was fitted with a Magic Silencer, perfectly eliminating sound.

He used a burst fire mode, carrying out precise strikes against these enemies who had their backs to him. With the shaking of the gun barrel, vents on the gun expelled plumes of white smoke. These were the byproducts of the complete combustion of caseless ammunition, as he was using caseless rounds, no shell casings were ejected.

Cheng Ziang picked off each enemy with precision, and they were all unaware of the danger behind them, so they fell to the ground in sequence without any signs. It was not until Cheng Ziang had killed five or six people in one go that they realized something was wrong, and they quickly lay down again, out of Cheng Ziang’s firing range.

Indeed, for these clustered targets, explosives would be the best choice, but the Advance Team didn’t have such resources and could only rely on their firearms for burst fire.

"What the fuck is going on here?" the leading Chief rolled into a hollow and shouted from behind cover.

"Unclear, it seems we have enemies behind us too, but we can’t hear his gunfire!" a gunman knelt on the ground and said loudly while lowering his posture.

"Fucking hell, we can’t see the enemy, and we’ve lost so many people, hurry up and find them!" the Chief ordered through gritted teeth.

"One team watch our back, another team search for that bastard, don’t just fucking stand there, move!" the gunman nodded and then yelled his orders.

No sooner had he got up from the ground than he felt a heavy thud in his chest, his body taken by surprise, knocked down in an instant. It was only then he noticed a bloody hole had been blown in his chest, the cavity behind it particularly terrifying, and the white snow beneath him was being stained with blood.

The gunman lay on the ground, howling in pain, his plight terrifying his comrades who didn’t know what to do and just stood there foolishly.

"Why the fuck are you standing there, you want to be targets? Move, fucking move!" the Chief cursed frantically as he crawled out of the hole.

It was clear that the Chief had experience in this kind of combat; he could deduce from the situation at the scene that there were not many attackers and nearly no heavy firepower. Under such conditions, as long as they moved, the attackers would be too busy to pursue and no longer able to attack them.

However, the Advance Team clearly had more experience in combat and also knew the principle of ’capture the king first.’ The moment that Chief stood up, he was hit by three or four bullets, his whole body trembling, nearly losing the ability to speak.

The gunmen watched in horror as the Chief was hit. Before they could react, the Chief’s head suddenly exploded, with a bullet entering one temple and blowing the other side of his head clean off.

Following that, using his superior mobility gear, Hu Daoke moved to a new position in the least amount of time possible, promptly setting up his machine gun to launch a new round of strikes against these gunmen frozen in their tracks.

The rapid and rhythmic gunfire sounded once again. With the Chief gone, those realizing they were ambushed finally wanted to retreat, starting to withdraw from the perilous woods.

However, unlike the chaos of past situations, the group’s retreat was orderly—they weren’t collapsing in defeat—clearly planning to regroup with the main force behind them and then counter-attack the ambushers.
