Chapter 899: Chapter 892: The Abyssal Behemoth
"As you command!" Fulajie’er responded with zeal and then briskly departed from the group, flying toward a spot not far away.
"Luo’er..." Tangmo elongated her tone, looking at Luo’er with an expression of grievance.
"Why are you jealously fussing again?" Luo’er said with a wry smile.
"When did all this happen between you two?" Tangmo asked warily.
"What are you talking about? Fula has always been like this," Luo’er remarked with a sigh, "If only you could be as sensible as Yue’er..."
"Huh!" Hearing this, Tangmo was visibly startled.
The reason for her reaction was not Luo’er’s words but because Momo had previously advised her not to always excessively seek Luo’er’s affection, but rather to play hard to get.
Although Momo could be playful at times, she knew very well how to keep things in proportion, and often Luo’er would find himself led by the nose by her. It was clear that in this respect, Moumou, as an older sister, indeed fell short of Momo, whom Fula described as a ’bad woman’.
Too much of anything leads to the opposite effect, for even the greatest of loves could be on the brink of collapse due to endless demands.
"Uhh, I’m not criticizing you." Seeing that Tangmo had fallen silent, Luo’er quickly explained.
"I’m not thinking about that, I’m considering serious matters," Tangmo replied stubbornly, head down.
"That’s good," Luo’er let out a sigh of relief.
Axia quietly observed their every move. Since Fulajie’er’s domain wasn’t connected to her, she couldn’t hear what Fulajie’er had said, which only increased her interest in Fulajie’er.
It should be noted that Fulajie’er was a god, and even though Luo’er’s status was demi-god, it was still a type of divinity, which was of great nobility to the Elf Race.
Yet, she noticed that the members of the Advance Team seemed very nonchalant about Fulajie’er’s presence, as if she were as normal as the air and water, completely devoid of any respect for Fulajie’er.
This was quite incomprehensible to Axia. She knew Luo’er was a Wood Elf hybrid, and although just a hybrid, he was still an Elf. Yet, there was no sign of respect for Fulajie’er on him, and even more, his words and actions were filled with concern for Fulajie’er, an emotion that trickled down from high above.
With this in mind, Axia could not help but become curious about the members of the Advance Team, of course, most intriguing of all was Fulajie’er.
While Fulajie’er conducted her Reconnaissance, the group stayed put, waiting for her news. Luo’er took out several flares, and together with Hu Daoke, lit them and placed them around the crevice as a marker to prevent anyone from accidentally stepping into it and falling.
Hu Daoke positioned the flares around the crevice, then could not resist taking another look at it and involuntarily gasped in a breath of cold air.
More accurately described as a pit rather than a crevice, for whatever reason, Hu Daoke felt the surrounding temperature dropping ever colder, as if they were right in the middle of a freezer.
"This is messed up, why is it so cold? It feels even colder than outside," Hu Daoke couldn’t help but rub his ears and said to Luo’er.
"I’ve noticed it too," Luo’er said, frowning, "Logically, the temperature in such underground spaces should be relatively constant. Why does it seem to be getting colder?"
"Could it be related to this pit?" Hu Daoke said, pulling out a flare from his person, lighting it, and then throwing it directly down into the pit.
The flare emitted a dazzling light, falling straight down into the pit. Suddenly, they seemed to see a huge silhouette with an uneven surface. Above that outline, they spotted a pair of glossy, large black eyes that reflected the light of the flare quite distinctly.
Seeing this, both of them felt their scalps tingle and hastily took several steps back until they reached the rock wall, then they looked at each other, too shocked to speak.
"What’s wrong with you two?" Seeing their drastic change in expression, Tangmo was very curious. Luo’er was always the stable kind in her memory, and it was rare to see him looking panicked.
Seeing the abnormal reaction of the two, Baiyue took a step forward, wanting to see what at the bottom of the pit had scared them so. Upon seeing this, Luo’er quickly reached out to stop her, and with a trembling voice said, "Don’t, don’t go there, down in the pit there’s a huge monster..."
"Monster!!" Upon hearing his words, everyone immediately froze on the spot, their eyes wide as they stared at him blankly.
"Retreat, retreat the way we came." Taking a deep breath, Luo’er gave the order to retreat, though without much confidence.
"What kind of monster is it?" Tangmo asked, frowning with curiosity.
"Never mind that, hurry and retreat, hiss..." Luo’er said impatiently, unable to resist drawing in a breath of cold air.
This was because he had clearly noticed the temperature in the air plummeting rapidly; it had already broken through zero degrees and was likely around negative ten by now.
This was a highly unusual phenomenon, for in such a relatively enclosed space, temperature fluctuations would normally not vary so greatly. Thus, the rapid decline in temperature was clearly not a natural occurrence.
Although Luo’er was reluctant to admit it, the drop in temperature might very well be related to the creature at the bottom of the pit.
Axia, too, had sensed the rapid drop in temperature, and after hearing the descriptions from Luo’er and the others, her expression turned serious before telling them, "I also think we should leave immediately, as we might be in trouble."
"But what about Fula..." Baiyue asked with some concern.
"You guys go ahead. I’ll wait for her in the tunnel, then leave." Luo responded.
"Isn’t that too dangerous?" Tangmo said worriedly, his brow furrowed.
"It’s okay, I can handle it on my own." Luo’er said, shaking the Soul Summoning Bell on his neck and simultaneously raising his rifle, pulling back the bolt to chamber a round.
"Boss, I’ll wait with you." Hu Daoke said as he held the light machine gun.
"Alright, the two of us will wait for her in the tunnel. The rest of you retreat." Luo’er nodded, not rejecting the offer.
He was not sure he’d have the opportunity to ring the Soul Summoning Bell if Tana took control of him, so having Hu Daoke by his side was a kind of insurance.
"Be careful. We’re withdrawing first," Baiyue said, nodding and pulling Tangmo, who seemed about to speak, toward the direction of the tunnel.
In all strictness, waiting or not for Fulajie’er didn’t really matter. Since Fulajie’er was a demigod and as long as her crystal was intact, she was an immortal presence, impervious to all harm.
But Luo’er didn’t see it that way. Sure, Fulajie’er wouldn’t die, but she had once been a living person.
Even though she had transformed into what she was now, Luo’er preferred to treat her as a living person. In such a case, if they were to abandon Fulajie’er and run, even if she wouldn’t say anything, she would undoubtedly feel cold-hearted.
The group retreated to the tunnel where Luo’er and Hu Daoke knelt in the center, quietly waiting for Fulajie’er’s return. Hu Daoke, still feeling a lingering fear, turned to Luo’er and asked, "Boss, what did you see just now?"
"To be honest, it kind of looked like a toad." Luo’er swallowed and said.
"Those eyes were too big, weren’t they? Last time I saw eyes that big was at the Door of Annihilation, that Naptios," Hu Daoke said in astonishment.
"That creature probably isn’t native here, probably like Naptios, it’s also from another plane," Luo’er speculated with a frown.
"I have a feeling that Snow Elf might know something." Hu Daoke leaned closer to Luo’er and whispered.
"I think so too. Let’s ask her for clarification when we get up there," Luo’er nodded in agreement.
Before long, Fulajie’er’s figure appeared in the middle of the crevice. Seeing that the place where everyone had just lingered was now empty, she frantically floated around searching. Seeing this, Luo’er had no choice but to take off the Magic Crystal flashlight from Hu Daoke’s shoulder and vigorously waved it at her.
Seeing the light from Luo’er’s flashlight, Fulajie’er flew over excitedly, then floated in front of him and asked with curiosity, "Why did you come here? Where are the others?"
