Chapter 896: Chapter 889: Crisis Averted

Tangmo took the Soul Summoning Bell and, no longer caring about anything else, stood in place and began to frantically wave it. The rotating bell emitted a captivating sound that pierced through the eardrums of everyone present, reaching into the deepest parts of their hearts.

The sound of the Soul Summoning Bell jolted Luo’er back to his senses, and his vacant pupils refocused. It was then that he realized he had already stepped down from the platform and into the darkness. Had it not been for Fulajie’er casting a shield in time to stop him, he might have walked straight to his doom.

Thinking of this, Luo’er broke out in a cold sweat. It seemed that this Tana was indeed out for his life, striking with such a blow at this critical moment. Had she succeeded, he would have died right there in the tomb.

"Ah, you’re finally all right, you scared me to death," came Fulajie’er’s voice from his mind, overrun with relief and tears. Seeing Luo’er safely awaken, she was overwhelmed with emotion and couldn’t help but cry.

"Sorry for making you worry again," Luo’er sincerely apologized.

"Luo’er!!!"

Tangmo’s urgent voice came from the doorway, followed by a petite figure stumbling down the steps, leaning on the stone wall and groping her way towards Luo’er.

In her haste, the Magic Crystal in her pocket, glowing with white light, fell to the ground and rolled down the stairs. These crystals were generally very durable, so a simple knock would not cause them to shatter.

When the Magic Crystal rolled to the foot of Luo’er, he blocked it with his foot. Illuminated by the light of the crystal, Tangmo finally saw Luo’er’s position, and with a weeping sound, she threw herself at him.

"Be careful, you almost pushed me over," Luo’er said, catching her and chuckling bitterly.

"Wuwu, you scared me to death. If you really had gone in, I wouldn’t know what to do. I’m scared of the dark, even more scared of you getting hurt..." Tangmo said, snuggling in his arms, her voice filled with grievance.

"It’s all right now, it’s all right," Luo’er gently patted her back, trying to console her.

Tangmo’s hands were trembling with excitement, and the Soul Summoning Bell she held was also shaking, spinning continuously, while for a moment the sound that penetrated the heart echoed incessantly in his mind.

Luo’er felt fortunate that he at least had found a countermeasure like the Soul Summoning Bell, or else he would have been completely led by the nose by Tana.

Thinking of Tana, Luo’er felt genuinely aggrieved. He was merely an informed participant of the Elf Planet Project and had not taken part in it at all. Yet just because he had established a connection with Tana, he had to endure her endless harassment.

Luo’er didn’t quite understand the significance of Tana’s adamant defense of the Elf Race’s bloodline. Despite the many clear, artificially-imposed limitations within the Elf Race, Tana was not willing to change anything but instead clung to traditions. Although a Wood Elf hybrid, Luo’er did not agree with Tana’s doctrines.

Before long, the other members of the Advance Team rushed to the entrance, and upon seeing the two embracing within the corridor, they all breathed a sigh of relief. Nobody knew if there were any other traps in the tomb, and had Luo’er been lured into it by Tana without any precaution, his chances of survival would have been slim.

"To be honest, I really am beginning to dislike Tana now," Cheng Ziang said icily.

"Same here, though I could do without ’a bit,’" Hu Daoke agreed.

"Put the Soul Summoning Bell on Luo’er to prevent Tana from influencing him further," Baiyue said coldly as she approached, ignoring their display of emotion.

"Oh." Seeing Baiyue coming over, Tangmo felt it wasn’t appropriate to continue hugging Luo’er, so she quickly let go of him, then hung the Soul Summoning Bell around his neck.

When the group returned to the surface, Cheng Ziang said with a serious face, "Given Luo’er’s current condition, I suggest you stay topside and let us go down for the exploration."

"No, I’ll lead the team down," Luo’er shook his head, firmly rejecting the suggestion.

"Stop trying to act tough. You’re the Captain of the Advance Team; what would we do if something happened to you?" Cheng Ziang said, a bit angrily.

"Exactly because I’m the Captain of the Advance Team, I should take the lead," Luo’er replied, standing his ground.

"I really can’t take this anymore." Seeing Luo’er’s resolute attitude, Cheng Ziang immediately felt infuriated.

"If you ask me," Hu Daoke said weakly from the side, "our Advance Team only has so few people, and yet we have two captains squabbling. There’s really no point, we only have so few people under us anyway."

"I am the official captain, and what I say goes," Luo’er said, then began to give orders, "Moumou, Yue’er, and Little Ke, you three come with me below, everyone else stays on the surface."

"Understood," the three nodded and responded.

"I’m not under your command, am I?" Axia asked with a smile.

"Uh, regarding this tomb, we still need to rely on Miss Axia," Luo’er said hesitantly.

"Alright, I’ll go down with you guys, just take good care of Eve," Axia nodded, showing no signs of refusal.

"Fulajie’er, reveal yourself!" Luo’er exclaimed, opening his palm with the inside facing up.

Immediately after, the air’s magic power violently disturbed, and Fulajie’er’s body, glowing with a white light, instantly appeared in Luo’er’s palm, sitting obediently and gazing up at him.

"What is this!!" Axia’s eyes widened upon seeing Fulajie’er’s appearance, her original composure swept away, replaced by a face of shock.

"This is Fulajie’er, our Ghost Reconnaissance Soldier, you can think of her as... well, a demigod," Luo’er explained, looking at her.

"Demigod, gods!" Upon hearing this, Axia’s eyes widened even more as she looked at Luo’er in horror and said, "You guys, you’re commanding gods?"

"What do you mean ’commanding’? We are friends," Luo’er couldn’t quite understand Axia’s reaction.

Of course, Luo’er also wasn’t entirely certain that Fulajie’er’s composition was the same as that of Tana or Xiapei Kam. After all, Fulajie’er had been transformed from a living person into a demigod, and according to deductions, Tana was likely a god created by humans, akin to the concept of artificial intelligence.

"She is the Ghost who has been secretly helping us all this time..." Seeing Fulajie’er’s appearance, Eve also seemed very excited.

Fulajie’er rarely showed her true form in front of others; part of the reason was Luo’er’s restriction, and another part was her own shyness, not wishing to reveal herself in front of others.

Fulajie’er had a fixation on spatial cleanliness and didn’t like to reveal herself, so most of the time, to outsiders, she was like air; they simply could not hear or feel her presence and could only speculate about Fulajie’er’s existence through the Advance Team members’ seemingly one-sided conversations.

"Fulajie’er, can you scout ahead for us?" Luo’er, unconcerned with Axia’s reaction, looked down at Fulajie’er and asked.

"Hmm, although I’m a bit scared, if it’s something Luo’er is asking for, I can do it," Fulajie’er said, twirling around in his palm in a coy manner.

Appearing rare in front of strangers, Fulajie’er seemed somewhat uneasy, and as a result, she always involuntarily acted coyly.

Of course, the main reason why Luo’er wanted her to appear in front of everyone was that he needed Fulajie’er to accompany him into the tomb next.

Fulajie’er was composed of magical power from the atmosphere, and her body emitted a white, cold light, making her an excellent illumination tool and a guide. This was why Luo’er wanted her to make an appearance.

"All right then, go scout ahead, and come back and report to us on the situation," Luo’er said.

"Okay, then I’m off," Fulajie’er spoke, then turned and flew towards the tomb entrance, disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye.

In fact, if Luo’er was willing, he could have kept the entire team on the surface and let Fulajie’er explore the tomb alone. But he didn’t do that; on the one hand, because Fulajie’er was a girl, and although she had now become a Ghost, she still had fears to some extent. On the other hand, if the exploration of the tomb were left entirely to Fulajie’er, that would make the rest of the team appear overly lazy.
