Chapter 875: Chapter 868: Skynet Concept
"It’s not a person, that’s definitely not a person. Could a person do such a thing?" Hu Daoke chimed in.
"Shut up," Cheng Ziang rolled his eyes, then turned to Baiyue and said seriously, "Let’s hear your opinion."
"Tana’s thinking is obviously quite extreme, 0 is 0, 1 is 1. Once she sets a principle, it will never change. Such a stark dichotomy, according to Earth’s existing common sense, is possessed by which kind of intelligence?" Baiyue reminded.
"Err, Westerners?" Hu Daoke thought for a moment and asked.
"If you don’t know, don’t interrupt," Cheng Ziang said discontentedly.
"You say it if you know!" Hu Daoke retorted, not convinced.
Cheng Ziang did not continue to entertain him, but turned to Baiyue and asked, "Let’s hear your opinion."
"Within the known concepts of Earth, the kind of intelligent being that strictly adheres to rules... after thinking it over, there seems to only be one kind, artificial intelligence!" Baiyue stated, word by word.
"Are you saying that Tana is artificial intelligence?" Luo’er’s eyes widened, as he asked in shock.
"What is artificial intelligence?" Eve clearly did not understand these Earthly terms, so she frowned and turned to Cheng Ziang.
"It’s a program!" Cheng Ziang answered indifferently.
"And what is a program?" Eve asked again.
"Forget it, it’s not something I can explain in a moment or two," Cheng Ziang shrugged his shoulders, knowing that Earth’s concepts would not be immediately clear to someone from Otherworld like Eve.
"Only this reason can explain the loopholes in our recent conversation," Baiyue analyzed, "If Tana really were a god like Fulajie’er, she should have infinite, world-destroying power. But as we’ve seen, she hasn’t destroyed the world; it’s as if she is bound by some constraints. She can’t affect races other than the Elf Race, and even when she does influence the elves, she cannot directly kill them, only coax them to seek death. This means that every step of Tana’s is constrained by objective factors, and these objective factors are very likely the rules set by the creator who made her."
"Maybe she just wanted to torment Luo’er for fun?" Cheng Ziang shrugged.
"I don’t think she has the leisure for that. Again, if she is a god, her divinity would absolutely not allow her to engage in acts entangled with personal emotions, otherwise, she wouldn’t be recognized by the Elf Race and become the supreme god," Baiyue said.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Hu Daoke couldn’t help but remind, "all of this discussion is still just speculation. Haven’t we forgotten that we are supposed to be discussing our leader’s problem, not Tana’s divinity? What are we going to do if that woman comes looking for trouble with our leader again?"
"It seems now we just have to restrain Luo’er, not letting him have the opportunity to dream walk," Cheng Ziang mused, "If Tana continues to lure Luo’er, then I reckon we might have to return to our base, take Luo’er back to Earth, that’s the only way to completely sever the connection between him and Tana."
"That’s easy, starting today, Luo’er will sleep with me, I’ll hold him while sleeping, and won’t let him have the chance to dream walk," Tangmo Mao volunteered readily.
"Then I won’t be able to sleep," Luo’er said with a blushing face.
"Perhaps, I could come up with a method..." At this moment, Eve, who had been quiet, raised her hand.
"What method do you have?" Cheng Ziang asked, full of anticipation.
"The elder of the Snow Elves I mentioned before, she might know something about this," Eve cautiously answered.
"Is she far from us?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Not far, she’s on our inevitable path," Eve replied.
"Well then," Cheng Ziang said, looking at Luo’er, "it looks like we’ll need to find that Snow Elf. If Luo’er’s condition continues to worsen, forget about searching for the Ancestors’ Holy Book, just watching over him would drain most of our energy."
"Sorry for causing you trouble," Luo’er said with a guilt-ridden face.
"What nonsense are you talking about," Cheng Ziang somewhat angrily said, "What do you mean by causing us trouble!"
"But if the situation continues like this, objectively speaking, Luo’er might really be recalled to Earth," Baiyue said, and couldn’t help but look at Luo’er with some worry.
"It’s fine, this is probably just fate," Luo’er said, waving his hand and revealing a bitter smile.
"Xiao Fula, from today on, you will monitor Luo’er around the clock. The moment you notice something amiss, immediately notify us," Cheng Ziang ordered.
"Only twenty-four hours?" Fulajie’er asked, puzzled.
"That means watching Luo’er for the entire day," Cheng Ziang said with a face full of black lines.
"Oh, but I’ve been doing that all along," Fulajie’er said matter-of-factly.
"But you didn’t come to notify us the moment you noticed something was wrong," Cheng Ziang said.
"I have a question," Hu Daoke weakly raised his hand and said, "Although I know the boss wouldn’t do this, I still want to say, what if that Tana tempts the boss to harm us? What do we do then?"
"Then, how about we handcuff me all the time," Luo’er earnestly said.
"Have you lost your mind, coming up with such lousy ideas," Cheng Ziang said, rolling his eyes in dissatisfaction.
"You don’t need to worry. In principle, Tana won’t harm you and won’t hurt you through Luo’er," Eve said, trying to reassure them.
"Why?" Cheng Ziang asked.
"Because it’s been said before that Tana won’t interfere with or harm anyone outside of the Elf Race, and you haven’t gone through the Resurrection Ceremony. The elders have said that only Elves who have experienced reincarnation can be guided by Tana," Eve explained seriously.
"It seems somewhat like being connected to a network..." Baiyue suddenly said.
"Don’t apply Earth’s concepts to everything; this is the Otherworld with magic, not Earth," Cheng Ziang said.
"This isn’t about concepts; it’s about principles, a universal set of principles. No matter how incredible, they are stronger than subjective notions of gods and spirits," Baiyue said earnestly.
"So, can we understand it like this? After the boss went online following his resurrection, Tana began to implant something akin to a computer virus in the boss’s brain, making him seek his end," Hu Daoke, after thinking it over, couldn’t help but interject.
Hu Daoke’s offhand comment made Cheng Ziang and Baiyue instantly have a revelation; many things that they hadn’t understood suddenly became clear.
That’s right; if all the assumptions above hold true, then Tana should be a god-like being similar to Fulajie’er, maintained by magical power. And as everyone knows, the atmosphere of the Otherworld is filled with magic, meaning Tana could be immortal in the Otherworld.
By Earth’s standards, artificial intelligence typically can only exist within a network. Once it loses the terminal to interfere with the real world, even the most advanced artificial intelligence can’t harm humans.
In simple terms, if all of humanity did not go online, did not use machines, and civilization regressed to a feudal agricultural era, then artificial intelligence, no matter how advanced, could not interfere with or even harm humans.
But the Otherworld is different. The example of Fulajie’er has shown that gods can be created by someone’s hand. Furthermore, they can be immortal in the magical atmosphere of the Otherworld.
If Tana truly is an artificial intelligence, then that means the entire Otherworld is essentially a real version of a networked world, and every living being is a terminal. Tana influences the entire world and interferes with the terminals it connects to, namely, individuals from the Elf Race.
