Chapter 871: Chapter 864: The Goddess in the Night Sky
The source of the light came from a bonfire within a fireplace, and Luo’er saw that outside the door there was a simple living room with just a sofa and a fireplace. There was not a single lamp in the entire living room, with only the bonfire in the fireplace casting a warm glow.
Next to the fireplace was a single-seater sofa, upon which someone appeared to be sitting with their back towards him. Luo’er could only see the person’s back and was unable to determine who it actually was.
Luo’er swallowed, then slowly lifted his foot and walked towards the living room. He approached the fireplace, and the closer he got to it, the more intensely he felt the fiery glow.
Upon reaching the fireplace, Luo’er carefully observed the person sitting on the sofa. The person sat there with their head lowered, seemingly holding something in their arms. Even as Luo’er approached, they made no movement.
However, Luo’er recognized her at first sight, it was no one else but Tangmo. He was so familiar with her figure that he did not even need to see her face to guess the person’s identity.
"Awake?" As Luo’er recognized Tangmo, she too mechanically lifted her head and looked up at him with an expressionless face and asked.
"Yeah, you..." Luo’er nodded blankly, his gaze settling on the object in her arms. He easily recognized the shape, it was a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes.
"Cute, isn’t it?" Just as Luo’er recognized the object, Tangmo lifted the baby high above, looking at him with lifeless eyes and asked.
"Cute..." Luo’er nodded with difficulty, unsure of what else to say.
The baby in Tangmo’s hands also looked at him with lifeless eyes, its features carried an indescribable charm. Luo’er wasn’t sure if it was an illusion, but he recognized her at first glance.
Without a doubt, this was Momo. But, but wasn’t Momo one of Tangmo’s personalities? How had she turned into her child?
"This, this baby... is..." Luo’er felt his mind was in turmoil. There were so many questions, yet he didn’t know where to start. He felt a wave of weakness overcome his body, to the point where he couldn’t even lift his hands.
As his thoughts were muddled and he struggled to organize them, a white figure drifted slowly past him. It was a woman in a white dress, barefoot, stepping into a dark corner where the firelight couldn’t reach. Right after that, Luo’er heard the sound of a door lock opening.
"Mom, where are you going?" Luo’er asked in surprise. He wasn’t sure if it was just an illusion, but he felt that the woman in the white dress was his mother, Nina.
But Nina didn’t seem to hear him at all and just opened the door directly. A piercing cold wind blew in from the doorway, causing the bonfire to flicker and sway.
Seeing this, Luo’er quickly followed. As he took a step forward, Tangmo suddenly grabbed his wrist, stopping him from leaving.
Anxious to find his mother, Luo’er didn’t bother with Tangmo and, after pulling his hand away, he rushed to the doorway in haste. As soon as he reached the door, a chill wind struck, his feet growing numb with cold as they evidently stepped onto the snow.
Outside was pitch black, so dark he couldn’t see his hand in front of his face, with the piercing wind carrying snowflakes continuously lashing against his face.
In an environment where the sky and earth seemed indistinct from each other, Luo’er was surprised to find that his mother, Nina, was emitting a faint soft glow, seemingly guiding him forward. Without thinking, Luo’er stepped onto the thick snow and followed.
A piercing pain came from his feet, stepping on the ice-cold snow piles barefoot, Luo’er felt his feet becoming increasingly sore and then numb.
Outside was knee-deep heavy snow, and Luo’er couldn’t tell which direction he was heading. He could only see the faintly glowing figure of his mother trudging through the snow with difficulty, moving forward weakly.
Whispers reached his ears, but Luo’er couldn’t make out what the voices were saying. The wind and snow brushed past him, having long numbed his ears from the cold.
Luo’er was very worried that if he touched his ears now, they might fall off directly.
Not far away, Nina’s silhouette slowly vanished beneath the horizon, as if they were walking on a curved surface. Watching his mother’s figure gradually disappear, Luo’er felt extremely anxious. The sound beside his ear became an echoing in his mind, but he still couldn’t make out what the voice was saying, only feeling like she seemed very rushed.
Luo’er felt his thoughts were in disarray. Despite seeing many strange things, he had no interest in pondering them, merely acting on instinct.
Therefore, under such circumstances, Luo’er didn’t even notice his mother hovering above the snow. Where she passed, not a single footprint was left behind.
Struggling to keep up with Nina’s pace, Luo’er, in a daze, seemed to see something—a goddess, a giant goddess in a long robe, standing with her hands on her chest, her head bowed, suspended in the sky, radiating soft and enchanting light all around.
Upon seeing the goddess appearing in the sky, Luo’er’s eyes widened, and he nearly suffocated. Because the goddess bore an extraordinary resemblance to his own mother.
She was smiling softly, exuding a warm glow all over. In an instant, Luo’er felt no longer cold. The goddess’s light shone upon him, bringing him unusual comfort.
"Wait, where have I seen this scene before..." Luo’er suddenly had a flash of insight in his mind, as if he had realized something was amiss.
"Where am I, where have I seen her, a goddess who looks like my mother..." Luo’er muttered, staring dumbfounded at the goddess suspended in the sky. Meanwhile, his body started to move uncontrollably towards the goddess.
Right below where the goddess hovered, Nina stood quietly on the spot, wearing a kind smile, as if waiting for his arrival.
Luo’er fell into deep thought and didn’t notice that his body was moving uncontrollably towards the goddess. Below the goddess’s position lay a clear lake, and at this moment, Nina was calmly floating on the water’s surface, quietly waiting for Luo’er to come. And he was completely unaware of all this.
He had not gone far when Luo’er felt his head suddenly strike something, and he immediately fell backward, tumbling into a thick pile of snow. As he hit the ground, a light flashed in his buzzing mind, and he remembered the answer to the question he had been pondering.
"I remember now, you..." Luo’er exclaimed, and just then, he felt a tightness around his ankle as if something had grabbed him and was dragging him back.
Luo’er looked back in terror, but behind him was nothing but pitch blackness; he couldn’t see what had caught him. Amidst his panic, he let out a desperate scream, then struggled to crawl forward in the snow, trying to reach the goddess’s position for her protection against the encroaching darkness.
Soon after, his other foot was also gripped firmly, and he was forcefully dragged backward. With both hands clutching the snow, Luo’er cried out in fear, attempting to get the attention of his mother and the goddess.
However, to his despair, both his mother and the goddess stood still, looking at him with an unchanging smile, patiently awaiting his arrival.
"Mom, save me, save me..." Luo’er cried miserably, stretching out his hand in desperate pleading. Just as he reached out his right hand, his left was again restrained and pulled back.
With no leverage, Luo’er was dragged into the abyss of darkness by an unknown force, and the silent, pitch-black night sky echoed with his desperate screams.
"Ahh..." Luo’er, in his sleep, suddenly let out a desperate howl, his body jerked violently, then he leaped up and plunged into a warm embrace.
"Luo’er, Luo’er, it’s okay, it’s okay, dear, dear..." Luo’er heard a familiar, gentle voice above his head. Only then did he realize he was being held in someone’s arms, with the person gently patting his back to comfort him.
He looked around and found he was still in the draughty, dilapidated shed, not in a bed, but lying on a sleeping bag on the ground. A piercingly cold wind blew in, and Luo’er’s muddled mind finally cleared.
