Chapter 865: Chapter 858: Xilia’s Ending

Fulajie’er opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say, so she just hugged Luo’er’s neck, her form drifting along with his movements.

Not far away, Eve stared with her sky-blue eyes, looking at the ghost floating around Luo’er’s neck in slight terror, involuntarily inhaling a cool breath, her teeth uncontrollably starting to chatter.

"Oh, we’ve been spotted, Luo’er, what should we do?" Fulajie’er noticed Eve’s frightened gaze. However, her behavior wasn’t much better than Eve’s as she shyly hid behind Luo’er.

"It’s fine, let them see. We will be in contact often in the coming days, so consider it an early adaptation," Luo’er dismissed with a comforting wave of his hand.

"Is she really okay like this?" Fulajie’er leaned on Luo’er’s back, only her pair of sparkling eyes fixed on Eve.

"You’re not any better, why hide behind me?" Luo’er said with a mix of laughter and helplessness.

"I’m afraid of scaring her," Fulajie’er stubbornly replied.

"Alright," Luo’er smiled and then brought Fulajie’er in front of Eve, introducing her formally, "Eve, this is Fulajie’er. Although you aren’t strangers to each other, I suppose this is still your first meeting, right?"

"She, she’s really a ghost?" Eve asked with wide eyes full of amazement.

"Yeah." Luo’er nodded.

"You’re not scared of her?" Eve asked, somewhat incredulously.

"No, why would I be scared of her? She’s so cute," Luo’er shrugged, answering as if it was only natural.

"I am the little angel sent by God to be with Luo’er!" Fulajie’er cautiously declared, half of her face visible as she asserted her territory.

"You just stop stirring things up. If Momo hears you again, I’m going to get another lecture," Luo’er sighed.

"Thank you for all the help you’ve been giving us," Eve said sincerely, looking at Fulajie’er.

Fulajie’er didn’t acknowledge her thanks and instead turned sharply, vanishing into thin air. Eve didn’t understand her gesture and was left standing there, bewildered.

Noticing her expression, Luo’er looked back and said comfortingly, "Don’t mind her, she’s fairly shy. She’s probably more open around people she knows well."

Luo’er’s words were just an excuse, for if Fulajie’er were really shy around strangers, she wouldn’t have approached Luo’er and the others in Weird Talk Forest. Actually, she was mainly too embarrassed to face Eve’s gratitude.

"Let’s go, we should continue on our way," Luo’er looked back in the direction from which Xilia had fled, silently praying in his heart that Xilia wouldn’t encounter any danger on the way.

Xilia found a boat along the river and, after a lot of hardship, finally floated upstream to Princess Melia’s camp, proceeding directly to her office to find her.

"You’re leaving, you’ve found your father’s killer?" Princess Melia seemed somewhat surprised to hear of Xilia’s departure, putting down her Tasta translation of The Monarchy.

"Yes." Xilia nodded.

"Was it the Advance Team that helped you find them?" Princess Melia asked.

"No, they are the ones who killed my father," Xilia replied through gritted teeth.

"Luo’er and the others killed your father?" Princess Melia stood frozen, clearly surprised by the outcome.

"Yes," Xilia nodded again.

"So you’re planning to seek revenge on them?" Princess Melia took a deep breath, asking calmly.

"Yes, I kindly ask your Highness to fulfill our promise and assist me in my revenge," Xilia said, resolute.

Hearing her words, Melia’s expression finally turned serious. She straightened her body, crossed her hands on the table, her brows tightly knitted, clearly troubled by the question.

"Do you... must you seek revenge?" After a long moment of contemplation, Melia asked hesitantly.

"Yes, I beseech you, Princess!" Xilia answered.

"I see..." Melia nodded faintly after hearing this.

Then she reached out and opened the drawer beneath her desk, took out the delicate ladies’ pistol given to her by headquarters, and in front of Xilia, she pulled out the magazine to check the bullets, turned off the safety as Luo’er had taught her, and also pulled back the gun’s slide.

"Go then, go do what you wish to," Melia said casually as she examined the gold-engraved pistol in her hand.

"Thank you, Your Highness," Xilia obviously had not realized the danger was imminent and gratefully said.

The moment she stood and turned, Melia’s pistol was already aimed at her back. The two were no more than ten steps apart, a distance at which, facing such an evident target, Melia could guarantee she wouldn’t miss.

"Bang! Bang!!"

Two loud gunshots rang out in the not-so-spacious room, making Melia involuntarily cover her ears. Xilia only felt a numbness in her back, followed by something warm slowly trickling down from her chest.

She reached out to touch the warm substance and found it to be bright red blood. Her eyes widened and mouth opened, but she couldn’t make a sound.

Struggling, she turned around, incredulously looking at the dark muzzle in Melia’s hand, utterly unable to understand why Princess Melia would suddenly attack her.

Melia looked at her coldly. Seeing Xilia turn around, she didn’t hesitate a bit and pulled the trigger again.

This shot struck directly at her kidneys, shattering her organs instantly. Xilia shuddered violently, and her body could no longer stand; she fell backward from the bullet’s impact, crashing onto the wooden floor as blood from the wound quickly pooled into a puddle.

"Princess!" With a loud bang, the door swung open, and two Knights bustled in, only to be met with the shocking scene before them.

"Get out," Melia said, holding the pistol and emotionlessly spoke.

"But, Princess..." The two Knights exchanged a confused look, finding it difficult to speak.

"Leave!" Melia spat out the word coldly.

"Yes, yes..." The two Knights looked at each other again, and although they didn’t understand what had occurred, they still decided not to provoke Melia any further, carefully backing out the same way they came in, and gently closing the door.

Melia watched as the two Knights left, her face expressionless as she moved away from her spot, slowly walking towards Xilia lying on the ground.

Xilia was now lying immobilized in a pool of her blood, even speaking was difficult. Melia’s two shots had pierced her lungs, causing a pneumothorax.

Melia walked up to Xilia, checked her waist for weapons to ensure she wasn’t carrying any firearms, and retracted her foot, reassured. She couldn’t help but shake her head and said, "It seems Luo’er was right, you really aren’t cut out to be an assassin."

"Why..." Xilia’s eyes widened as she struggled to ask.

"Why," Melia shrugged, looking down condescendingly, "You were my subordinate, and even if you had left me, others would have still considered you my subordinate. Luo’er and the forces behind him are my allies. My subordinate planning to kill my ally, what do you think I should do under such circumstances?"

"I’m sorry," Melia said, raising the pistol to her forehead, her expression showing pity, "I can’t let you harm Luo’er because that would ruin my plans. I can’t let your revenge destroy my own revenge plans. I did promise you once that I’d help you kill the murderer of your father, but I’m sorry, I regret it, and..."

Melia leaned in, squinting at her and said in a lowered voice, "I won’t allow you to harm Luo’er. Even if I may never have him in this lifetime, I won’t allow anyone to try to harm him because I... he..."

The final few words were mouthed silently by Melia, not spoken aloud, but their meaning was clear. After saying this, she looked at Xilia with some pity, then, gritting her teeth, pulled the trigger against her forehead.

"Bang!!"
