Chapter 853: Chapter 846: Entanglement

"Hehe..." Upon hearing Melia’s question, Luo’er couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle.

It did not surprise him that Melia would ask such a question, for her purpose had always been pure, aimed solely at the throne.

Should he tell her that the people of Earth were planning to establish a unified government in Otherworld, she would surely worry whether the position she had struggled so hard to seize could be maintained.

"Once the time is ripe, reform will be inevitable; but rest assured," Luo’er said, "If you have earned what you desire through your own efforts, we will definitely not strip it away from you. However, we do hope that you understand one thing, no one can stop the tide of the times. Otherworld will eventually undergo fundamental changes, so I still hope that you can prepare yourself mentally."

"Thank you for your suggestion." Melia nodded somewhat distractedly.

"Melia, this world will ultimately change, and what you see now is just the calm before the storm. So, whether you choose to embrace the future or cling to the past is entirely up to you," Luo’er said seriously.

"I understand, I will give it some thought," Melia nodded and replied.

"Let’s talk about something else; this topic feels a bit heavy," Luo’er said with a smile seeing Melia deep in thought.

"What shall we talk about, matters between us?" Melia asked with a smile after slightly adjusting her mood.

"Stop making fun of me," Luo’er said awkwardly, waving his hand, then he continued with a serious expression, "Our headquarters is planning to relocate to Lipei, did you know about this?"

"I am aware. I have already instructed my subordinates to make the necessary preparations, just waiting for your move," Melia nodded.

"Er, when the Otherworld Gate in Lipei is open, come visit us on Earth," Luo’er said earnestly.

"In what capacity?" Melia tilted her head and asked him.

"Eh, of course as... as Princess Masia..." Luo’er hesitated for a moment, then carefully replied.

"Thank you for the invitation, I will go," Melia nodded in response.

"Er..." Luo’er tried to find another topic, but Melia interrupted him.

"Regarding your mission this time, I have prepared all the supplies that your headquarters left with me, and there is a team of Cavalry on standby, just waiting for you to depart. Additionally," she paused, then continued, "considering you may face unforeseen dangers this time, I plan to send extra hands with you. The Knight Commander needs to protect me, so he cannot be spared. I am thinking of sending Xilia with you to the Snow Domain."

"No need, we have plenty of people, there’s no need to arrange more for us," Luo’er declined with a smile, "And, to speak frankly, our supplies for this trip to the Snow Domain are quite limited; it would be hard to sustain another person."

"At the very least, let her accompany you to the entrance of the North Lead Corridor," Melia said.

"This, alright..." Faced with Melia’s earnest gaze, Luo’er knew he couldn’t refuse her and thus chose to agree.

"Don’t underestimate Xilia; she’s a decent assassin," Melia said.

"What’s her background? I feel she’s not like the Marsyan people," Luo’er inquired.

"Her family is in Otland. It’s said that she became an assassin to avenge her father," Melia replied indifferently.

"To avenge her father?" Luo’er hadn’t expected that there was such a backstory to Xilia.

"Yes, apparently a few years ago, her father was implicated in a gang dispute and was assassinated by a rival force. She has been searching for the assassin’s trail ever since," Melia added after a moment’s thought.

"And how did you end up taking her in?" Luo’er asked.

"She said that the murderer of her father might be from Masia, so I promised her that if I claimed the throne, I would help her search for her father’s murderer nationwide. With that, she agreed to become one of my subordinates," Melia explained.

"Quite the promissory note..." Luo’er said with a wry smile.

"That’s about right, but I think I can make it happen," Melia glanced at Luo’er and said confidently.

"Well," Luo’er nodded and then half-jokingly added, "Since you’re so eager to rush us out, I reckon we shouldn’t overstay our welcome."

"I didn’t mean to rush you out," Melia replied calmly, "Your mission isn’t supposed to be that urgent, right? With the Snow Domain currently blocked by heavy snowfall, it would be difficult for you to make headway. Why not wait until spring to proceed?"

"Urgent is just a pretext for the headquarters to the outside world," Luo’er sighed and continued, "You might not know, but right now, everyone at the headquarters is eagerly awaiting the opening of the Otherworld Gate, their work can only continue with that. So, the burden we carry is not light."

"Alright, it looks like I can’t convince you to stay," Melia said with a look of regret.

"Thank you for your hospitality. We’ll come back if we have the chance," Luo’er replied.

"Honestly, if it weren’t for business, you wouldn’t come at all, would you?" Melia stared at Luo’er, a half-smiling, half-mocking expression on her face.

"That’s... I’ll come by when I have the time," Luo’er said awkwardly.

"It doesn’t matter," Melia sighed, then added, "Set off tomorrow. I’ve already prepared everything and everyone for you."

"Thank you very much." Luo’er nodded and expressed his gratitude.

"Don’t mention it, I’m just fulfilling someone’s request," Melia said, shaking her head.

"Is there not a personal reason then?" Luo’er blurted out, not sure what made him ask such a thing.

"There is," Melia glanced at Luo’er, showing a charming smile, "I’m just worried about someone blushing, that’s all."

Luo’er had only been in Melia’s office for a little over half an hour before he hurried out as Melia was preparing to bathe and change. Of course, Melia wouldn’t mind Luo’er’s gaze, but he didn’t have the nerve to stay, and so he scurried out.

As he walked out, he also took the opportunity to glance at Xilia standing guard at the door. She had been watching him with wary eyes the whole time, showing no signs of relaxation, clearly still distrustful of him.

The thought that she would accompany him all the way to the North Lead Corridor made Luo’er give her a few extra glances. For some unclear reason, he always felt that Xilia looked familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before.

Leaving Melia’s office and walking the corridors, Fulajie’er suddenly spoke, "Luo’er, did you have something you wanted to say to that woman just now, something you were worried I might overhear?"

"What are you talking about? I’ve said all I need to say," Luo’er denied outright.

"You don’t have to lie to me. I can see right through you when you lie," Fulajie’er sighed and went on, "If you think I shouldn’t know about certain things, just tell me. I promise not to encroach on your private space or eavesdrop on your conversations."

"What nonsense are you talking?" Luo’er said with a bitter smile, "Do you also hope something happens between Melia and me..."

"Of course not. Compared to bad women, perhaps I can be more open about it. After all, all I demand from you is company, not love," Fulajie’er answered truthfully.

Facing Fulajie’er’s sincere response, Luo’er found himself speechless, unsure of what to say. He opened his mouth several times, but couldn’t find the words to express himself, so he fell silent again.

"Luo’er!" Just as Luo’er lapsed into silence, he heard Fulajie’er calling his name again, this time her voice sounding heavy with concern.

"What’s the matter?" Luo’er responded.

"Do you think... if I were to be resurrected, we... could still be together?" Fulajie’er asked hesitantly.

"I, I don’t know..." Hearing her question, Luo’er was taken aback for a moment and then reluctantly opened his mouth to reply.

"The thought of it makes me feel that maybe I’m better off not being resurrected, staying like this at least I’ll have your company. If I were resurrected and couldn’t be with you, then what would be the point of living?" Fulajie’er said earnestly.
