Chapter 851: Chapter 844: A Minor Conflict
"Forget it, forget it, I’ve gotten used to it," Luo’er said with a wry smile, shaking his head.
"What were those two talking about," Tangmo suddenly asked again, "Military, or politics?"
Tangmo’s question made everyone present look at her with new respect, not expecting that she would still play hard to get, seizing the opportunity to strike back while Fulajie’er was off guard.
"Princess Melia said that her situation is dire now, and she worries that the Kingdom might join forces with the rebels to surround and annihilate her. But if she can ally with Luo’er, she could get support from Ilanadale, because Luo’er is Ilanadale’s little prince," unexpectedly, Fulajie’er wasn’t taken aback by Tangmo’s sudden interrogation and answered with confidence and clarity.
"An alliance..." Tangmo glanced at Luo’er with a look of suspicion and then withdrew her gaze. Although she was utterly puzzled, she knew well that she wouldn’t be able to get much information out of Fulajie’er.
"Ah, if you could use this energy in intelligence analysis, I bet your achievements would be boundless," Luo’er sighed, shaking his head.
"So, what you mean is that I haven’t been of any help to you these past few days, right?" Tangmo lifted her head, looking steadfastly at Luo’er as she asked.
"Hey, of course not, but if you could put all your effort into the right things..." Luo’er paused mid-sentence.
"To me, fighting over a man is also one of the right things," Tangmo interrupted him.
"Alright..." Luo’er closed his mouth and said nothing more.
Princess Melia clearly intended to let the Advance Team stay in her camp for a while, which is why she never brought up going to the Snow Domain. Of course, she also hadn’t had the chance to, as after meeting with the members of the Advance Team, she continued to immerse herself in her complicated work and hadn’t had the opportunity to meet with them again.
Luo’er actually wanted to go see her, but he refrained from doing so because of Tangmo’s resentful gaze.
Speaking of which, it wasn’t easy for Princess Melia, a little girl born into royalty, to work tirelessly at pleasing powers that could be relied upon, doing everything personally, and only then did she barely manage to establish her own territory.
Both for her and the Headquarters, this was only a starting phase. There were many roads ahead to travel, and yet Melia had not fully conceived her future path.
The attitude of Headquarters had always made her uneasy because they had supported her a lot, and she hadn’t been able to repay much. One shouldn’t be deceived by the fact that Melia had managed to muster up an army of thousands and hold a sizable territory.
But when compared with the Masaya Kingdom, she was significantly overshadowed. If the Masaya royal family were willing to lower their stance and cooperate with Headquarters, then Melia would certainly be the first to be abandoned, and her dreams would instantly shatter without anyone caring for her life or death.
This was also why Melia hoped to maintain a relatively intimate relationship with Luo’er. She could see that although Luo’er was just the Captain of the Advance Team, he still had a say, especially at the frontline Headquarters, at least ensuring that Headquarters wouldn’t favor the royal family over her and sell her out.
Of course, it’s somewhat inappropriate to speak thus of Melia, because she indeed harbored feelings for Luo’er that went beyond mere interests, and this needed to be acknowledged.
Melia was expanding her territory with such urgency precisely to demonstrate loyalty to Headquarters and show that she had the capacity to grow and ensure that Headquarters would continue to support her.
As much as it was a reluctant truth, she was well aware that the Otherworld no longer revolved around Otherworlders; Earthlings were the ones who truly pulled the strings.
Since the day the rebellion broke out in Masaya, she could vaguely discern this trend. Behind these rebels, a mysterious ghost was orchestrating everything.
She was well aware that it wasn’t Headquarters that chose her, but she who chose Headquarters, meaning she had to give even more. The reason she chose Headquarters and the huge role Luo’er played in it was clear, because without Luo’er’s introduction, she wouldn’t have had the chance to make contact with these people from Earth.
The deepening relationship between Headquarters and the Church Court made her feel even more that her choice was the correct one, because once she seized the crown of Masaya with the help of Headquarters, she would need the Church Court’s blessings to be crowned and legitimate her rule.
Though the Otherworld lacked the tradition that only men could inherit the crown, it was still exceedingly rare for a woman to become a monarch in the history of the Otherworld. The best way to solidify her position was to gain recognition from the Church Court; once acknowledged by the Church Court, Melia would undoubtedly secure her throne and achieve her ultimate goal.
As the partner, once Princess Melia firmly secured the throne of Masaya, it would mean they indirectly controlled Masaya, the major power in the northeastern part of the Aels Continent.
This way, from Yazhi City to Galan, from Galan to Helros, the entire northeast of the continent would be under the control of Headquarters.
Next, as long as they could deal with the Odelanqi issue, Headquarters could announce they had gained control over the entire northern region of the Otherworld’s Aels Continent. With that accomplished, they could shift their focus to the south.
In the south, Headquarters had also found a partner like Ilanadale. Once the north was pacified, they would use Ilanadale as a stepping stone to extend their influence to the surrounding southern areas, with the final goal being to control the entire Aels Continent and unify the Otherworld.
On the third day at the camp, Mr. Luo’er found a gap to slip away from Tangmo’s watchful eye and secretly made his way to the area where Princess Melia worked.
To his surprise, he was not stopped by anyone along the way, including the guards at the door. He reached the periphery of Princess Melia’s office area and saw the Knight Captain standing there.
But obviously, the Knight Captain did not intend to stop him either. He just turned his head to glance at Mr. Luo’er and then paid him no more heed, focusing intently on guarding the door.
"Good afternoon, Knight Captain," Mr. Luo’er said, approaching him and politely greeting him.
"Hmph!" The Knight Captain let out his usual disdainful snort.
However, Mr. Luo’er did not mind and continued walking towards the door, ready to enter Princess Melia’s office. He had just reached the door, his hand not yet touching the doorknob, when he felt something cold press against the back of his head.
"Don’t move!" An icy female voice came from behind. Mr. Luo’er immediately thought of Xilia, the female assassin whom Princess Melia had just recruited.
"Don’t misunderstand, I need to speak with Princess Melia," Mr. Luo’er said, raising his hands as he glanced at the Knight Captain nearby. He noticed the Knight Captain was acting as if nothing was amiss, paying no attention to their situation.
Xilia didn’t speak. Holding a gun to Mr. Luo’er’s head with one hand, she reached with her other hand towards the holster on his waist, intending to disarm him of his pistol.
At that moment, Xilia suddenly let out a shriek of terror, as if startled by something. Seizing this opportunity, Mr. Luo’er immediately turned around and seized her gun-wielding hand.
The gun Xilia was holding was a revolver, and Mr. Luo’er directly jammed his finger into the hammer to prevent her from firing while his other hand grasped her upper arm, twisting her gun-wielding right hand in a lock.
Disoriented by Mr. Luo’er’s action, Xilia couldn’t maintain her balance. Mr. Luo’er placed his foot behind hers, causing her to lose her footing and fall to the ground with her arm twisted by him.
"My apologies, but as an assassin, your skills seem somewhat lacking," Mr. Luo’er said with a smile.
"You..." Xilia’s face turned red with anger and embarrassment. She tried to pull the trigger several times, but failed, as Mr. Luo’er had a better understanding of her weapon and easily restricted its use.
"It’s rare to see you lay hands on a woman," Princess Melia said, a smile playing on her lips as she appeared in front of the two, having opened the door of the room.
"So, do you think just because I’m dealing with a woman, she could easily handle me?" Mr. Luo’er asked, looking up at her with a wry smile.
While speaking, Mr. Luo’er also let go of Xilia. She immediately rolled over and got up, then knelt on the ground, head bowed and full of apology, "I’m sorry, Princess, I couldn’t stop him."
"I forgot to tell you," Princess Melia said with a sigh, "in the future, if it’s Mr. Luo’er visiting, don’t stop him, let him come right in."
"But, if it isn’t convenient for the Princess..." Xilia expressed her concern.
"I don’t mind. Do you?" Princess Melia said while her face broke into a teasing smile. As she spoke, she glanced at Mr. Luo’er, giving her words significant meaning.
