Chapter 837: Chapter 830: Advance Team Assembly
A few days had passed, and Feliz as well as Kali and others were brought back to Earth’s Haiya Academy. Their visit was mainly to alleviate the effects caused by Earth’s lack of magic, so there was no need for them to stay at the base for too long.
However, there was an exception with Truth. Probably hoping she would stick around to take care of the Snow Elf half-siblings, Eve, Wang Xu didn’t send her back immediately; instead, he let her stay a while longer. After the Advance Team took Eve to the Snow Domain, she would help take care of Eve’s younger brother, Jora.
But based on recent feedback, Truth seemed dissatisfied with this decision. Although Jora continuously showed her affection, she appeared unmoved.
Wang Xu felt quite helpless about this, knowing what this young girl had on her mind. Truth was saved by Luo’er and could be considered her reborn parent. The feelings Truth had for Luo’er couldn’t be simply described by the so-called love; it was more of a dependency, an unconditional trust in Luo’er.
Luo’er had never realized that her flirtatious nature would cause such trouble. She thought that sending Feliz and the others away would let her breathe a sigh of relief, but she never expected so many girls she saved from the Ancient States to still be at the base.
Most of these girls were underage, with the youngest being less than ten years old. Wang Xu also found these girls troublesome; sending them to Earth at their age was inappropriate, as the younger they were, the more sensitive they felt to the magic-less environment. Ideally, it was best to wait until they were sixteen to send them to Earth.
The reason Yaning was taken to Earth was mainly as a test subject to observe if the suppressive medication could be effective on young Otherworldly beings. Should she show any signs of rejection, she would be sent back to the Otherworld by the research center immediately.
Therefore, as stated, these girls who were still too young to be exchanged had to stay at the base for the time being. Once the gate to the Otherworld at Lipei opened, arrangements for them could be made. There was no other option.
Of course, with these girls staying at the base, they naturally couldn’t just idle around. Besides essential studies, everyone had to carry out necessary labor. This was not only to cultivate their hard-working qualities but also to help manage the base and reduce the financial pressure on headquarters.
For Luo’er, these girls were even more troublesome. Despite their young age, their souls had been wandering the world for decades; they couldn’t be simply viewed as naive young girls.
For instance, if Fulajie’er could be revived, her age would remain as it was before her soul left her body, which was around her teens, but in reality, she was already over thirty years old.
Luo’er found it difficult to understand these girls’ attitudes towards her; it was as if they just wanted to cling to her. Even during work, they would immediately drop what they were doing and run over to her, causing Luo’er no end of vexation.
More than a week passed, and around the middle of January, Tangmo, Baiyue, and Cheng Ziang finally returned to the base aboard an airboat from Yazhi City and Holy Heart City.
However, due to various limitations, there weren’t many air services from Yazhi City to Holy Heart City; one a month was already quite good. After all, the High-peak people didn’t own many commercial airboats; it wasn’t feasible to open routes everywhere.
Luo’er and Wang Xu waited for everyone’s arrival on the open ground of the base. As soon as the carriage came to a stop, Tangmo was the first to jump out and then directly flung herself toward Luo’er.
"Wow, Luo’er, I can’t believe it’s been over a month since you left, I missed you so much!!!" Tangmo burst into Luo’er’s arms, loudly sharing her grievances, and it seemed that she was really lonely without Luo’er’s company.
"It’s only been a month, you should concentrate on your studies at the academy, and the month will pass quickly," Luo’er said, hugging her with a smile yet bemused.
"If I’d known you were going to be gone for a month, I never would have let you leave the academy," Tangmo said, looking up at Luo’er while frowning and muttering.
"What are you talking about? I left to complete a mission; why did you want to keep me back?" Luo’er said.
"Were you well-behaved this past month? Have you been flirting with that girl you met?" Tangmo asked with a suspicious face.
"Of course not, where did your thoughts go? I did these things for the organization, not for chasing girls," Luo’er replied, shaking her head with a sense of helplessness.
"With your flirty ways, I’m a bit worried that all those things you said before were just to make me happy," Tangmo said with a sullen tone.
"I wasn’t flirting around, you..." Luo’er frowned, trying to say something, but in the end, she just pursed her lips and remained silent.
"If Momo were here, she would definitely understand why I did this..." Luo’er sighed deeply, muttering to himself in his heart.
"Luo’er...," Baiyue walked up to Luo’er with restraint, her eyes wide as she looked at him. It was apparent she had been suppressing the impulse in her heart not to throw herself at him like Tangmo had done.
"Welcome home, Yue’er," Luo’er said, pushing Tangmo aside and then opening his arms with a smile.
With Luo’er’s clear invitation, Baiyue no longer held back and threw herself into his arms, savoring the long-missed warmth. Standing quietly to the side, Tangmo seemed to notice the shift in Luo’er’s emotions and, lowering her head, she murmured to herself, "Did I do something wrong again?"
Her words were less for herself and more a request for Momo’s opinion, because when it came to feelings for Luo’er, Momo indeed had a much better grasp than her sister.
"What about me?" Seeing Luo’er’s proud embrace of others, Cheng Ziang walked to him and asked without expression.
"Come here, our leader should love me too," Hu Daoke said as he stepped forward and gave Cheng Ziang a bear hug, squeezing him until stars appeared in his eyes.
"Are you trying to strangle me?" Cheng Ziang pushed Hu Daoke away, scolding him with a feigned annoyance.
"Hey, I’ve missed you! It’s been so long," Hu Daoke expressed his feelings without any hesitation.
"So you haven’t been scolded by me for over a month, and now you’re itching for it?" Cheng Ziang sized him up and then said with a squinting smile.
"See? You really have a sharp tongue. I care about you so much, yet in your mouth, it turns into something bad," Hu Daoke retorted without holding back.
"Anyways, I want to thank you for standing by me during my toughest times," Cheng Ziang said with a smile.
"That’s more like it. I almost thought you were heartless," Hu Daoke replied with a smile.
"Let’s save the talk for later; don’t just stand here like an idiot," Wang Xu interjected, making peace.
"Let’s go, we can discuss further in the meeting room," Luo’er said to Tangmo and Baiyue.
"Mm..." Baiyue nodded, then lowered her head, letting Luo’er take her small hand, like a newlywed bride.
Just as Cheng Ziang was about to take a step, he suddenly spotted Yalunte watching from a distance, and all the past confusion rushed back, causing him to involuntarily stop in his tracks.
"What’s up?" Hu Daoke, who was walking behind him, quickly asked upon seeing this.
"You go ahead, I still have some things to take care of, I’ll come over later," Cheng Ziang told him.
"You still have..." Hu Daoke was about to say something when he followed Cheng Ziang’s gaze to Yalunte. Understanding something, he patted Cheng Ziang on the shoulder and said, "Then hurry up, don’t make a fool of yourself."
"Thanks," Cheng Ziang said gratefully.
"What’s there to thank me for," Hu Daoke slapped his butt and then left with a cheerful smile.
Watching Luo’er and the others leave, Cheng Ziang took a deep breath, then walked expressionlessly towards Yalunte. Noticing Cheng Ziang approaching, Yalunte swiftly left her position to avoid him, turning and walking away.
