Chapter 806: Chapter 799: Delivering Charcoal in the Snow
What is truly admirable is that Carter did not show any arrogance towards Luo’er just because of his high position. In Carter’s eyes, Luo’er was not only the friend of his sister but also a comrade who had fought side by side with him in the past.
Upon seeing Luo’er, Carter showed genuine excitement and immediately dismounted, then, ignoring the unusual glances from the crowd, he hurried to Luo’er’s side.
"Captain Luo’er, it’s been a long time. We haven’t had the chance to contact each other since the closure of the Otherworld Gate, how have you all been?" Carter approached Luo’er and asked with joy.
"We’re fine, we went back to regroup after finishing that mission," Luo’er replied with a smile.
"That’s good, that’s good. I’ve been very worried about your safety since you were seriously injured, seeing you well is such a great relief," Carter said with concern.
"Thank you for your concern, Your Excellency the Legion Commander," Luo’er bowed politely.
"No need to call me Legion Commander, it’s too formal. We’re friends, aren’t we?" Carter said, waving his hand.
"To become friends with Your Excellency Carter is truly an honor for me," Luo’er said respectfully.
"No, no, no, it is my honor to be acquainted with a hero like Captain Luo’er," Carter said, placing his hand on Luo’er’s shoulder to show closeness.
"Your Excellency Carter, it’s quite crowded here, may I speak with you alone?" Luo’er looked around and then turned back to ask.
"Of course," Carter also looked around and then nodded, "If it’s a request from Captain Luo’er, I naturally have no reason to refuse."
With that, Carter went to the front of his troop and whispered something to the officers. Although they looked perplexed and uneasy, they agreed to Carter’s request and led the troop forward, while Carter, accompanied by a few attendants, left the street under the watchful eyes of the public and followed Luo’er.
A group of them reached a relatively quiet corner along the street, where Carter’s attendants took the lead and rear, protecting them in the middle.
They arrived at a small tavern in the corner, Carter’s attendants glanced at the sign before entering, spoke to the bartender, and then led everyone upstairs to a room.
Carter, knowing Luo’er’s identity, did not dare to discuss matters with Luo’er in public, choosing instead a place with more concealment.
After entering the room, Carter asked his attendants to wait outside the door, while he stayed alone with Luo’er and Hu Daoke in the room.
"Sorry to make you go through all this trouble," Luo’er took the initiative to speak as the door closed.
"Don’t say such things; I don’t consider it a waste of time," Carter took off his helmet and tidied his hair before speaking.
His helmet originally had a visor, but it was cut out to fit a gas mask and had not yet been restored.
From his actions and demeanor, Luo’er could clearly sense his sincerity and thus had a favorable impression of him. If he merely saw Azita as a tool, then he genuinely considered Carter a friend.
"Your Excellency Carter, we have a somewhat presumptuous request, and wonder if we could trouble you with it," Luo’er said.
"Speak directly, do not hesitate," Carter gestured with his hand.
Hearing his words, Luo’er and Hu Daoke exchanged a look and then spoke seriously, "We hope to purchase a batch of Earth’s military weapons in the name of the Purification Legion, may I ask for your opinion on this?"
"Earth’s military weapons?" Carter looked puzzled upon hearing this.
"Yes," Luo’er explained, "Currently, Earth’s military weapons can only be sold with orders from official institutions, otherwise they cannot be purchased indiscriminately. Due to a lack of strict control in the past, many of Earth’s military weapons ended up in civilian hands. Consequently, the United Nations and other related organizations on Earth have strengthened their management, so even we can’t just casually sell weapons."
"What does an official institution include?" Carter asked.
"Official institutions include national authorities, law enforcement agencies, military forces, and the Church Court, among others," Luo’er explained.
"I see," Carter nodded in understanding.
"The Church will not purchase Earth’s weapons, so if the Church is commissioned, it is very likely that our hostile forces will notice, and we have no choice but to resort to this strategy. I can only say it troubles you, Excellency. The relevant procurement funds will be covered by us, and the Purification Legion only needs to provide the name." Luo’er said politely.
"Captain Luo’er hopes that the Purification Legion will place an order for the weapons, then your organization will deliver the weapons to us, and we will then hand them over to you. We will just be a front to make the weapons traceable, is that correct?" Carter pondered aloud.
"Yes, that’s correct," Luo’er nodded excitedly, and then said, "The Purification Legion is the only army in the Church hierarchy that fully utilizes Earth’s weapons, so if these weapons are in your name, the United Nations won’t be able to scrutinize them closely."
"If that’s the case, we may need to consult the bishop responsible for such matters in the Church." Carter said with a frown.
"Of course, we will also maintain close communication with the Church through our organization," Luo’er assured.
"Since it is so, we naturally have no reason to refuse," Carter said with a smile after a moment of contemplation, lifting his head.
"Does that mean Your Excellency agrees?" Luo’er asked joyfully.
"Of course, it is a simple matter for us and has no harm; I really can’t find a reason to refuse," Carter said.
"Thank you very much, Excellency Carter; you have really helped us a great deal," Luo’er said excitedly.
"No, no, no, it’s nothing," Carter said with a smile, waving his hand and then seriously added, "My younger sister is studying on Earth, and I hope your organization will be understanding."
"Of course, of course," Luo’er agreed hastily, "Feliz is also my friend, and we certainly will not treat her unfairly."
"Then I will leave her in your care," Carter said with a slight nod.
Overcome with emotion, Luo’er tried to calm himself down and then looked at Carter, asking, "Don’t you want to ask what we need these weapons for, Excellency Carter?"
"No, that’s your own business, we just help out and do not ask for reasons," Carter said with a smile.
"May the God of Light protect your bright future..." Luo’er, at a loss for words in his excitement, ended up using the Church of Light’s blessing.
"I am touched by your blessing, Captain Luo’er. We have urgent matters to attend to and need to return to our parish; will you be coming with us, Captain Luo’er?" Carter asked.
"No, we still have some things to handle here, so we won’t trouble you," Luo’er declined with a wave of his hand.
"Alright then, the security in the eastern district is not very safe, if you need any help, just come and find me in the parish, there’s no need to stand on ceremony," Carter said.
"Of course, of course, we are friends, aren’t we!" Luo’er said, a bit moved.
"Yes, that’s right, we are friends!" Carter affirmed with a smile.
After sending off Carter, Luo’er felt a great relief from within, as if a huge stone had finally fallen from his heart, and he no longer felt burdened.
"Ah, what’s the saying," Hu Daoke said with a laugh, watching Carter and his group leave, "When you are on the right path, you receive more help; but when you are not, assistance is scarce."
"In this world, having one more friend is always better than having one more enemy, that’s a truth I have finally come to fully understand," Luo’er said, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Boss, now that we have a buyer, what do we do next?" Hu Daoke asked.
"Contact headquarters, let them get in touch with the Church Court, and let them take care of the weapon procurement," Luo’er instructed.
"Shall we visit the Blaiqi people’s weapon store now?" Hu Daoke inquired.
"Hmm, let’s go!" Luo’er nodded and, taking Hu Daoke with him, left the room.
