Chapter 724 - 717: Gifting a Knife

Chapter 724: Chapter 717: Gifting a Knife

Although Zhuyan Yu was nominally the acting chief of the frontline headquarters, in reality, there wasn’t much for her to worry about. Most predicaments had been more or less resolved before Wang Xu and others returned to Earth. Thus, her existence was merely to maintain order.

Obviously, Zhuyan Yu was aware of this and was not too involved in management, instead, focusing her efforts on researching magic.

With Feng’s return, she and Nightingale were eager to unravel the mystery of Feng’s abilities, such as how she cast magic formulas, a scenario they had yet to comprehend.

The path for traditional mages to cast magic formulas is clear. They absorb magic power through their bodies, convert it and then release it through a magic wand, their medium. So, the presence of both the mage and the Magic Wand must be constant.

However, Feng was an exception. From their research, it seemed that Feng didn’t need any medium to cast magic formulas. Essentially, her wielding a sword didn’t amount to much beyond looking impressive.

Tangmo had a different perspective. After observation, she noticed that Feng’s magic formulas were highly dependent on the weapon she held in her hands. Almost all of her magic formulas required corresponding sword gestures to cast.

Thus, a paradox arose. Why did Feng, who supposedly did not need a medium to cast magic, rely so heavily on her weapon?

Furthermore, Feng wasn’t particular about the type or material of the weapon she used. She wielded whatever was given to her, indirectly validating their hypothesis that she didn’t need a medium to cast magic.

To answer this question, they decided to carry out an experiment to understand Feng’s castings of the magic formulas.

A month after returning to their base, Zhuyan Yu and others chose to conduct the experiment in an open area of a manor within the base. This location was far away from the administrative zone, so casting magic spells wouldn’t affect it.

On this morning, Feng got up early, silently standing by Baiyue’s bed, waiting for her to help her dress and tidy up. On a day-to-day basis, she needed the Advance Team’s care.

In terms of taking care of her, it should have been Tangmo’s responsibility, but Tangmo changed into Momo early in the morning to pester Luoer, presumably not to come back until after breakfast.

Hu Daoke, feeling bored, leaned against a corridor, sighing repeatedly. Since the Murong Squad left to carry out their task, no one had time to play with him and it left him feeling quite frustrated.

At this moment, Cheng Ziang walked down the corridor carrying a long, rod-like object packaging in a layer of silk.

"Oh, Old Cheng, you’re going fishing early in the morning?" Hu Daoke thought that it was a fishing rod, and greeted him.

"Stop babbling, where is Yue’er’s room? " Cheng Ziang waved his hand and asked.

"Why, do they also like fishing?" Hu Daoke asked.

"Not fishing, I have business with them!" Cheng Ziang shot him a glance and said.

"What are you holding in your hand?" Hu Daoke noticed the object in his hand and couldn’t help asking.

"This?" Cheng Ziang shrugged his shoulders and without any hesitation, confidently unveiled the silk wrapper.

"Damn, you still haven’t given up?" Hu Daoke couldn’t hold back a gasp because the object Cheng was carrying was his original Blue and White Porcelain Saber.

"Sigh," hearing his words, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but deeply sigh before saying, "Actually, I have accepted my fate, but this saber can’t go to waste, so I am thinking about finding it a new owner. "

Upon hearing Cheng Ziang’s words, Hu Daoke didn’t reply for quite some time, instead, looking at him with a peculiar gaze. Noticing Hu Daoke’s gaze, Cheng Ziang coughed and asked: "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Let me guess, are you planning to give it to Feng?" Hu Daoke asked.

"How did you know?" Cheng Ziang asked in surprise.

"Old Cheng, do you remember the question I asked you before?" Hu Daoke ignored his question and returned it with another.

"What..." Cheng Ziang started to speak, recalled something he once said, then rolled his eyes and said, "What are you thinking about?"

"Never mind, I can’t be bothered to deal with you anymore. You know your own situation best." Hu Daoke shrugged without prying any further.

"You..." Cheng Ziang stared at him, dumbfounded, suddenly he seemed to realize something, and started asking, "Come to think of it, where did your wife and your sister-in-law go?"

On Cheng Ziang’s reminder, Hu Daoke slapped his forehead as an unexpected realization dawned upon him, "Ah, right, I have a wife to consider!"

"I really don’t know what to say about you anymore..." Cheng Ziang was left speechless by Hu Daoke’s comment.

"Just kidding, both of them have to study and work. They don’t have time to keep me company all day." Hu Daoke said with a laugh and another shrug.

"You need to watch yourself and take proper precautions." Cheng Ziang patted Hu Daoke on the shoulder and said with a smirk.

"What are you talking about," Hu Daoke’s face turned red immediately, "we haven’t done anything yet, you’re making it sound like we already have a second child."

"In the future, if you have a child, you must let me be the godfather!" Cheng Ziang teased. Only when he was with Hu Daoke could he relax and joke like this.

"You’re dreaming. If anyone’s going to be the godfather, it’s the boss. Do you think you’re qualified?" Hu Daoke rolled his eyes at him and said bluntly.

"Can I at least be uncle then?" Cheng Ziang was not offended at all.

"Why should you be the uncle? Are you older than me?" Hu Daoke countered.

"You two, can you stop shouting in the hallway? We can hear you from far away." As the two of them were in the middle of their banter, a familiar but unfamiliar voice cut through the air. Baiyue, holding Feng’s hand, stood before them, looking at them coldly.

"Huh?" Both of them looked at each other, uttering a surprised question simultaneously.

"Huh, what?" Baiyue didn’t understand their reaction.

"Nothing, it just feels like you’re talking more than usual." Hu Daoke scratched his head, explaining.

Cheng Ziang slapped Hu Daoke on the head, then said to Baiyue, who looked somewhat displeased, "You seem to have become more cheerful than before."

"Yes, yes, yes!" Hu Daoke hastily agreed, rubbing his aching head.

"Is it, is it, is it weird?" In response to their compliment, Baiyue was unable to maintain her stern face, and asked, blushing and lowering her head.

"Not at all, we’ll get used to it." The two of them exchanged a glance, chuckling and speaking in unison.

Baiyue lowered her head, uncontrollably revealing a hint of a smile. Then she took a deep breath, tightened her face, and asked, "What are you two doing here early in the morning?"

"Old Cheng, weren’t you going to give something?" Hu Daoke suddenly slapped Cheng Ziang’s back.

"Ouch," Cheng Ziang was gasping for breath from the sudden slap, stumbled forward and then held up his long knife, saying to them, "I heard that you are taking Feng for some experiments today, but Feng doesn’t seem to have a suitable weapon, so I thought I’d give her my personal knife as a weapon."

"Are you really willing to part with it?" Even Baiyue couldn’t help expressing shock at Cheng Ziang’s generous offer.

You should know that when the advance team was first formed, Cheng Ziang was insistent on using a knife and specifically learnt swordsmanship from Yalunte who was a swordsman. It was surprising to see him now willingly give up his identity and even offer his most cherished personal knife to Feng.

Perhaps others may not understand what this knife means to Cheng Ziang, but the members of the advance team knew clearly. This knife possessed a variety of advanced technologies from Earth. That Cheng Ziang was willing to give it to Feng was a testament to the trust he had in her.
